Yes, there's an antenna issue. I mentioned it several video's ago when the issue came up with the Striker. Check the SWR on that antenna. If it's high then you more than likely burnt the final amplifier up on the Striker. You'll need an SWR meter to check it. Then adjust the antenna to bring the SWR down as close to 1:1 as you can get it. Have the final checked on the Striker and replaced if needed. If you know a HAM radio operator get them to help you. And I consider the coax part of the antenna system. So the problem could be anywhere from where the coax connects to the radio to the tip of the antenna.
Hi Kurt just drove past a beautifull Kenny well he came up behind me flashing his lights he seen my sticker on my window fancy running into another subscriber in my Lil city of BENDIGO VIC australia 🇦🇺 really made my day except like you forgot his name 😂
Hi ya Mr. Kurt....just in case, there's a y-tube vid about setting up your CB (I think). Maybe it's nothing, but it may save you a few steps and it may point out something useful. Never know. The name of the vis is: "COBRA 29LTD CLASSIC CB RADIO: Initial Setup"
Kurt: "The one physical part that I have to my job is swinging doors!" To which I might reply by singnig: 🎶 "I've got swinging doors, a reefer box, and a tractor..."
Congratulations to your KC Chiefs! Although I am a fan of the Cincinnati Bengals, it is good that hard working fans in the Midwest are rewarded and can celebrate victory with one of their teams. Have a good one Kurt!
Mr Kurt, It could be your SWR being to high. The switch on the far left, switch it all the way down for CAL, key up the mic, turn your knob on right (not channel but next to it) "SWR CAL" adjusting the meter to calibrate (I believe it's the top scale to the diamond) then switch switch to middle (while still keying mic) to see what your SWR is at. You need it to be 2.5 or less. Using top scale again. Less is better.(you can tell by the red in the scale) This adjusts your radio to the current antenna system it"s hooked up to. Keep it between the lines buddy.
Hi Kurt, Please use an SWR meter to solve your problem with the CB. That is the only way to be sure of a good antenna setting. Enjoy watching your videos.
You could make a 15 minute video of just the sound of your truck idling and those of us stuck in "new quiet trucks" could fall asleep listening to the video 😁 Its an amazing sound🎉
@Trucking With Schmidt Kurt while checking your antenna out, make sure your antenna is getting ground. Those mirror brackets you have your antenna on, are bolted to a fiberglass cab.
I’ve had all kinds of radios Kurt. I’d have to say you can’t go wrong with a new coax the gray type, a new antenna mount and a francis antenna. I know francis are cheap but they work very well and have a great swr. You just cant go wrong just like with the cobra 29.
Hello Mr Kurt!!!!! Have U changed out the coax cable to the antennas entirely?? Have an SAFE TRIP & SUPER SUCCESSFUL TRUCKIN!!! !!!!!! 😎🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🎥📹📽🇺🇸💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰
Break 19,can you hear me now?back in the 80s I had a 23 channel cb that would reach out really far. of course it was tuned.dont remember the brand name.eventually I bought a new cb,cobra, and gave the 23 channel to a friend who put it in his pickup.lasted longer than the cobra did.
Hi, Kurt Heres a good way fix your antenna ...Start new antenna SWR meter New Coax...The best part your radio system always the antenna..Just sayin imma ham radio dude have all kinds radios,,SWr Meter check your matching with your antenna,You want a flat 1.1 match make your radio more efficient..Have a good one KB9LPP Keep trucking buddy
I have to agree with Wade. I had trouble with a new c b on a new truck and a driver fixed it with a different ground point. Whatever you will succeed. Travel safe and you and Opie havagudun.
Yup you got ant. issues. I had the same radio in the day. Still do. You can also check your ant. reflective wave with the built in meter if I remember. Your on the right mind set thinking wire, corrosion or connections. Check those when you get a chance. Also limit your transmitting until you correct it or will burn out the TRX amplifier. Nice ride today Opie looks content as ever. TGP
At home I have the last CB purchased way back, a Cobra 19 Plus. Haven't used this one in more years than I can remember. The Shakespear antenna is hanging about somewhere, have not spotted in quite a while. Good grounding is important as you already know. I still have the Standing Wave checking/tuning tool. None of this will be used again, I don't think. With additional investment of time and due diligence you'll sort out what the problems are for your CB and correct the offending part or parts. Thankee for the ride.
that cobre has a s w r meter on it to check the standing wave of your antenna switch it to s w r then key the mic use the dial to zero the meter then key the mic to read the standing wave if the meter moves up above 3 you can adjust the antenna if it goes way to the right it means your antenna needs some work either new coax or a badly grounded antenna im pretty sure your doors are also fiberglass that wont ground anything dont use the radio if your antenna is suspect it will blow the finals in the radio good luck
Thanks for another interesting video . I remember channel 9 for ER. I had a Cobra in my Thunderbird I drove all over northern IL to my in-home patients. 🙏✌️❤️ to the family & critters from Ogden IA Pam
That must be how you hurt your back. A bit too much effort. 🙄 Love that classic CB. I may still have mine somewhere. It's the same as yours. The warmth brought tornadoes around here. Thank you for the ride. Safe travels. God bless.
Hey its been a while 4me but if u get a big swing on that needle when u key up , you are putting out however if u don't get any come back its most like your ATee set up. possible it could be dry rotted splice or loose connections on the ends check it.. Anyway keep scanning far and wide keep it on the safe side love your channel. 😎👍🇺🇸
Good evening from Alberta. It’s about 46 years since I played with CB Radio. The grinding comments are good, but you need to check your signal right out to your antenna. When we had Radio Shack, there’s an SWR Meter you could get, along with a load resistance plug. The SWR meter You first check the output from the radio. Then put the SMR meter on the COAX connector at the antenna. In both cases, use the load resistor when you key the mike to see the transmit output from the radio. This will check the condition of your COAX while you’re doing this. If you’re good so far, you can check your antenna with an ohmmeter to see whether it’s shorted out while it’s disconnected from the radio. If I’m not mistaken, the standard output of CBs is 5 watts. I’ve been doing electrical and instrumentation for 52 years. SWR is Standing Wave Ratio and is in indication of how efficient your antenna system is.
It sounds like the finals in your Stryker are burned up because your antenna is grossly out of tune or you’ve got issues with the coax. The SWRs are into the stratosphere when you key the mike
yo yo im ham radio opperator va3dlo call sign i started out on cb 18 years ago when i was 13... and i just bought a COBRA 29 LTD CLASSICKthe MINIGHT BLUE special all blow led knobs blue displays on s meter and on chanel display ... also has been peeked tuned ... ill be running it as a base statin... cobra is one of the ebst makes for cb,.,, i als run a 1967 cobra cam 88 tube cb currnetly recievin... cant find a 1960's cb mic for it...i love cobra.,., my first cb was a hand held cobra wxst 2 4 watt hanmd held cb with a rubber duck and 8 AA batteries 18 years ago... when i started out in the cb hobby
Id relace the feed line just to insure no issues with feed line from radio to antenna,,, as for the antenna id check swr, make sure its at least 1.5 or lower....if you replace the feed line from radio to antenna still issues possible antenna needs either adjusting or new antenna,,,or since your using one of the two antenna ty switching to your other antenna one your not using,,, i think you sed you have two antennas your using just one of the two... swap to the other antenna and see how she works,,,
Kurt ive listened to that wining cat turbo for nearly 40 yrs and used to be music to my ears. For some reason i had to take my earbuds out for a moment. Keep on truckin brother, i enjoy the show.
Sounds like your coax or your antenna has corrosion on it. I'd say start with the coax and put it on a SWR meter and try and keep the SWR around 1.1-1.7
Hey Kurt you need to use a SWR meter to check the anrenna system Remeber to ground everthing. There sre parts of these trucks that are really fiberglass .
RUN K-40 ANTANAS,AND GET THEM ADJUST TO 1.0 ,ON SWR METER.IF YOU HAVE OVER 1.5 ON SWR,YOU COULD FRY THE FINALS,IN THE CB.GET LOW SWR,OR GET YOUR CB RUNNING BAD,IN A VERY SHORT TIME.
Kurt...if that red antena lite is coming on when you transmit you absolutely need to tune your antenna with a swr meter. If you keep talking on the radio the way it is now you will burn out the "final" transistor!! Thats what happened to the other radio cause you kept talking on it with an antenna thats not been "tuned" with a meter.

You need to clean the mirror and antenna brackets they look a bit corroded. My dad had that problem he cleaned with steel wool to get the rust off and it worked good.
I still got my base station tower up but lightening took out my Antron99 and I ran a Galaxy 73v peaked clipped and tuned and dead key 1/2 and watt and swing into my modulator and then into my big box and swing about 650 watts in my mobile I ran a Wilson 1000 but my base was a old cobra 142 into a old tube box doing about 1200 watts. I would get a good Wilson 5000 mirror mount antenna have swr’s set at between 1.0 and 1.5 and should be fine I never had trouble with mine and it hit many tree limbs

Ch. 9 was a ReAct channel used by volunteers for emergency use. I have a 40 yr.old Cobra 148GTL 40 upper & between & 40 lower also slides. I have a few Cobra radios 1 base 2000GTL and also have my first radio a Courier. It's kinda dying off not too many people uses them except the diehard driver's ( Professional) .
If you have a shorted antenna or coax it will take out the finals on your radio. You are right to run only one antenna, in most cases people have the antannas to close together and they fight each other. You may have already ruined the finals in the cobra, which is why I recommended you check the coax, connecters and antenna(s) before putting in another radio. It may just be a SWR issue with the antenna, but is probably a coax issue where it runs through the door and is flexed on daily basis. Wish you were in my area, I would help you with it. (North eastern Wisconsin). 0
I don't know what kind of antennas ya run Kurt it could be a ground problem or antenna itself especially if it's got the coiled wire under the coating. You'll get it figured out I'd say ya got a ground issue. 🇺🇸👍
Channel 9 was the emergency channel back before CB was completely deregulated by the FCC.
Yes, there's an antenna issue. I mentioned it several video's ago when the issue came up with the Striker. Check the SWR on that antenna. If it's high then you more than likely burnt the final amplifier up on the Striker. You'll need an SWR meter to check it. Smokey and the Bandit - a very old movie with a few hypes.
Great landscaping at the bank, giving you the soft grass. I bet Opie liked it. Hope you get your antenna issues resolved.
8 years? I can't remember what I was doing an hour ago.
Check your coax and make sure everything is tight
9 was the emergency channel. I think Dads call numbers were KXV-2945. He was licensed for a base and at least 2 mobile units.
Going way back: my numbers were KDT-7463. Operated a base (Courier Citation) and a 5-channel (crystals) mobile. Central MI.

There is a lot of fun and work out there and a lot crazy things going on out there and people as well
Hi Kurt, Please use an SWR meter to solve your problem with the CB. That is the only way to be sure of a good antenna setting. Enjoy watching your videos.
If I remember right channel 10 was used east of the Mississippi and 19 was used west of the Mississippi.

I love this sound too and also fall asleep while hearing the Caterpillar. Kurt please never ever install straight pipes.
Yeah buddy I'm from Kansas City
@Trucking With Schmidt Kurt while checking your antenna out, make sure your antenna is getting ground. Those mirror brackets you have your antenna on, are bolted to a fiberglass cab.
The only part that part on cab is roofcap. I NEVER had any grounding issues in my W9. COULD just be the coax cable..
Time to have your SWR checked or buy a SWR meter and do it yourself. Enjoy your day. Blue sky in Sumner Iowa.

you may check your swr's on the antenna that your running.

I was having transmitting issues with my CB, I changed the coax, and the problem was solved... great video, stay safe, and have a great week.
I always ran a separate ground wire on the antenae. It helps get out farther sometimes. Todd the retired trucker.
Maybe you should set up both of your CB's in the truck & see if you can't get yourself from one to the other.😮😮😮😮
That first button on Cobra needs to be up. Looks like yours is in the middle. And you do have antenna issue what it looks like.
Hello Kurt hope you have a wonderful day stay safe
Kurt ive listened to that wining cat turbo for nearly 40 yrs and used to be music to my ears. For some reason i had to take my earbuds out for a moment. Keep on truckin brother, i enjoy the show.
Kurt, if you still have a SRF meter you can check your antenna. KTV-2120

Sounds like your coax or your antenna has corrosion on it. I'd say start with the coax and put it on a SWR meter and try and keep the SWR around 1.1-1.7
Channel 9 used to be the emergency channel back in the day my first CB radio was a Robin then a Johnson my call sign was KMA 6056.
Hey Kurt you need to use a SWR meter to check the anrenna system
Remeber to ground everthing. There sre parts of these trucks that are really fiberglass .

Kurt...if that red antena lite is coming on when you transmit you absolutely need to tune your antenna with a swr meter. If you keep talking on the radio the way it is now you will burn out the "final" transistor!! Yeah I did that talk on the cb a lot my name is Jerry and on cb is coondog

Love ya Opie you big handsome German.
I've had same issues before and it be coax alot of times
I enjoy your videos of you and Opie you never know what you are going to see
I don't know about the "people you speak of" in the beginning of your videos but I am doing pretty darn good! Thank you for asking!!😄
You also need to match your cb with your antennas
Hi Kurt and Opie
Acetone should crack your super glue loose. Sarah probably has some nail polish remover. If you ask nicely, I bet she will even give you a cotton pad.
I wasn't bored, I was trying to figure out if you got new glasses.
🍭SWEET🍭Good luck with your radio Kurt!🙏🏼💖👍🏻🌞
Ok I been off RUclips and all social media for 2 months boy I have a lot to catch up on growing the beard I see I’ll watch this video then going back in the time machine 🤣🤣🤣👍👍
Oh Make sure you are not around anything like buildings when adjusting SWR.
Can’t believe you guys in the states still use 27mg cb radio . Here in Australia we use uhf 477mg .clearer and get out a lot further and channel 1-9 are are for repeater use .essential for navigating over size loads and knowing where DOT are
With a dummy load to can isolate your problem to the radio, coax or antenna.
The range on the cobras is only about 7 miles, Kurt. You may pick up the stronger radios though.
Next time you are in Oklahoma look for a Robertson's ham store and get a roll of there summer sausage it is the very best, as well as there ham sandwichs you will love it.
