So, you think the root cause of this problem is conservatism? The root cause of this problem is mismanagement of condo boards for decades. Artificially keeping HOA fees low, failure to maintain the buildings through structural maintenance. Educate yourself on the root cause of real estate maintenance in a tropical environment instead of spewing nonsense.
Yes conservative legislation is the exact cause. insteadVof bannning books they should have been focused on HOA and property insurance for home owners. @laurenwongvolleyballlibero3679
Florida’s building codes were notoriously lax for years, as were the regulations regarding safety inspections. Florida also accounts for a vast majority of lawsuits regarding home insurance. These are signs of poor government oversight. The state has been living on the cheap for years, and now the chickens are coming home to roost.
No bailout for Condos! When prices fall they want support. When condo prices went up 3x in price, I heard no complaining. Many of these condos should not have been built in the first place...
What are you talking about? When condo prices fall “they want support”? Who and when? Many of the condos should not have been built in the first place?? What’s the logic behind that statement??
Literally them searching for answers it's just political speak for we have nothing to give you and we're just going to wait out the time until either this issue melts down or people sell off their condos and just accept that you got played
I'm in my Sedona, Az condo since 1977. We always maintained the property every year as needed and prevented catastrophe down the road. We also saved a hefty emergency fund that we've maintained nearly 50 years. Florida condo owners kicked the can till they ran out of road and now want a bail out.
Condo boards have kept HOA fees artificially low by deferring preventative maintenence for decades. At some point, the s*** hits the fan. This is what we are seeing now. A negligent state legislature would turn a blind eye to the detriment of occupants and more tragedies would occur in time. Blame the condo boards for not building reserves over time and implementing maintenance programs to keep older buildings structurally sound. The tropical climate of Florida is tough on concrete and steel.
The government is literally trying to make everyone homeless, then saying it’s a crime to be homeless 😭😭😭🤣🤣🤣 ….AND YALL VOTED FOR THIS!!!!! ROTFFL!!! 😆😆😆 Get ready to join the homeless population in jail!!! 😂😂😂
No I don't think government makes everyone homeless. FL government is just a reflection of what most of people want to live with in that state: loose regulations and cheap prices of many things! They can't choose both comfortable and affordable lifestyles anymore after such tragic accident years ago!
@@info781: I understand what you said. But that's exactly what I mean: before the tragic accident 2-3 years ago, FL loose law didn't require building condo owners to set aside money for big maintenance. This made housing affordable for years, a thing people like in FL. And after accident, government had to adjust the law requiring keeping much money for inspection and maintenance to guarantee safety for people. This is a costly task to owners and a burden on tenants.
They've had years, but the boards were mismanaged and the owners refused to elect board members who wanted to raise dues to build reserves. Now time has run out and they've made their beds.
Done on purpose, land grab, land grab. Hmmm, special session? We expected a resolution when a 2023 special session was held regarding insurance. How did that go for us?
Why is it just now lawmakers are seeing an urgency? This didn't just appear. The residents of Florida have faced problems with insurance and condos for many months. Amazing. I guess they might have concepts of a plan?
Once again, the Legislature appears to be completely reactive, rather than proactive. They should have known about the likelihood of this issue surfacing and had a preemptive plan to address it. Gotta wonder how these people keep getting elected into office. 💯
I think people in FL only love loose regulations and affordable lifestyle until a disaster happens! The government is just a reflection of what people want to live with: loose regulation and cheap prices of many things!
Here's the answer... Do not make EVERY single condo above four stories do all this retrofitting. Just make them have an inspection to see if it's needed. There! Fixed it for ya.
Open houses don’t work in 2025. Everyone uses Zillow or some other online app. These are old people trying to sell their old condos for new-condo prices, using old marketing techniques to sell to old people.
What about the structural damage to condominiums like in town of Shores Gulfport every first floor was underwater that should cause structural damage 2 Each building either by the owners out or build a new condos otherwise it's just a double standard
The Governor needs to make some drastic statement and push the legislature to change something, because otherwise people will lose their homes and like the rest of the country, our state will be owned by big businesses. Like FEMA has done, we will be ignored and gaslighted.
It was the condo owners themselves who caused the problem. The owners constantly voted down money to maintain a update their buildings. The fact they expected to life maintenance free is ridiculous. .
Not so. Most new housing built in Florida and other Sunbelt states are subject to HOA. Local governments love HOAs because they have to meet the costs of maintaining roads, sidewalks, etc., that would otherwise fall to the government.
Everybody is on a fixed income. The next person who says that the cost of condo ownership is too high because old people are on a “fixed income “ needs to be kicked out of FL and sent to Point barrow, Alaska for the rest of their life.
They’re paying HUGE MAINTENANCE FEES & they need to SUE these CONDO ASSOCIATIONS: Breach of Contract, Unsafe Living Structure, Dereliction of Duty, Misappropriation of Funds, Not Properly Paying into the Funds, WILLFUL & GROSS NEGLECT FOR HUMAN LIFE!!!
And suing people is going to reduce costs how? Any owner can sit on the board meeting and read the budgets, repair costs have gone way up in the past five years and people do not want to pay for maintenance. Budlings in Tropical weather need more repairs.
Why not go after the HOA board members that stoled millions instead of using that money for what it should’ve been used for. But noooo…. Going after the rich is not allowed.
If you live in Florida, you do not pay state income tax. Condo boards have failed to protect owner interests including safety. Wake up and educate yourself on the root cause of the problem.
@@laurenwongvolleyballlibero3679 Agree, a condo board is privatized government that relies on volunteers. We all hate government bureaucracy but it provides checks and balances.
It's hilarious how "law makers" are "searching" for answers to the problems they themselves were the cause of.
The slumlord owners caused the problem.
Crafted by Ron The Saviour.
How are lawmakers the problem? Condos are privately owned and must be privately maintained
Well put
It's not Rhonda Sanchez's fault it is way beyond that
The state got what it voted for with these idiots
oh yea? where tf u stay?
Disney's buildings seem fine... 'course THEY chose contractors based on competence, not sexual orientation. Maybe Ronnie needs to get WOKE!
Red state. We voted for this bed now we have to sleep in it.

Condos falling down, while Ronnie spends his days hating on Disney for being "too woke." THEIR "woke buildings" don't seem to be falling down!

The governor and the legislature have screwed all residential property owners for years, not just condo owners.
Literally them searching for answers it's just political speak for we have nothing to give you and we're just going to wait out the time until either this issue melts down or people sell off their condos and just accept that you got played

Bailout boys
Totally different situation in Florida, we owned a Condo in Vegas. Arizona and Nevada do not have the disasters that Florida has.
It's the salt, which literally eats steel and concrete.

They did it on purpose!!! Condo owners are getting kicked out by big-time investors using the 80% rules, thus puting people out on the streets.
Florida is dying state, they just don’t realize it.

If you own a fee simple house you can defer maintenance and sell it for cheaper, you can not do that with the shared building.

Idiots!
They can’t sell them because the asking price is too high!
The condo owners hoped the prices would go up forever.
Nice story! 😂 Except the politicians know and don’t gaf. You’re gullible if you don’t believe this is entirely manufactured.
They can all move back to NY.
Well, you had a building fall down and kill people , because owners refused to make repairs.
The problem is greed but our arrogant nature won't let us accept it.
the simple fact is that condos are a failed concept in home ownership. Now that years of neglect is coming to the surface, it is more and more clear.
Give condos another year to have their reserves fully funded
yes, maybe have 25% of that each year for 4 years.
They've had years, but the boards were mismanaged and the owners refused to elect board members who wanted to raise dues to build reserves. Now time has run out and they've made their beds.
Time for the government to bail out all of these old rich voting farts
Don't expect any help from Governor Ron his pockets are to full of money from the insurance lobby

Safety costs money. Pay it yourself or get someone else to pay it for you. That is the only solution. Everyone wants free stuff.
Typical politicians. They don’t do anything until something happens and then they go to the extreme to make up for it.

All owners are allowed to attend board meetings and see all the documents.
why on earth are we paying taxes if the gov can't take accountability and cover all the costs No exceptions
The government should pay to fix condos? Why should non-condo owners pay to subsidize a condo?
