Oh my god - the comments here are the answer to why we can’t build. How can you be more intransigent than hardcore conservatives!!
It’s this attitude that leads to the IRA investment going to Texas!

This seems so quaint and abstract now that the orange menace has been re-elected.

We need to solve the overpopulation problem, period. There are too many of us and not enough green space.

      That problem is solving itself.
US is below replacement fertility and falling. Fertility is dropping worldwide. Underpopulation will be a bigger problem than overpopulation in our lifetimes.

@@dianehoekstra6880 To your point I believe that China's population is expected to slice in half by the end of the century unless there's some wild birthrate jumps. Overpopulation is a non-issue at this point.

From an economic standpoint, that's really not true.
Like, yes, more people=more strain on resources.
But also less people=less revenues to bring the infrastructure and technological transition we need to fruition. Increasing taxes on the rich doesn't solve that problem on its own and asking people to live in poverty isn't practical.
Grow fast, tax high, and build your way out. I don't know if it will work but I expect it will work better than the alternative of dwindling aging populations losing value and revenue as people refuse to reduce their standard of living.

We’re living longer anyway so that’s really not going to work
