This is a song by MAXIMUM THE RYO-KUN (Gtr. Voc.) about being bullied in 8th grade. In the beginning he talks about the abuse being piled on and how others couldn't his growing pain. At the end he says he could only forgive his tormentors. The video is filmed in a typical Japanese middle school. The imagery sliding across the walls is from a manga they created as part of a DVD/CD box set. NAO-chyan (Dr. Voc.) is the band's founder and leader, as well as RYO-KUN's sister. There are only a few MTH MVs; watch them all. But I know you will like HUNGRY PRIDE.
Ryo the guitarist was harassed in school, this is essentially a fuck you to his old tormentors. Note the drummer, Nao is Roy’s older sister and a huge influence on the insane amount of incredible female Japanese drummers, like Tamu (Nemophila) and Akane (Band Maid). Just a warning MTH can be hard on copyright stuff. Also they are incredible live and the Japanese crowds go nuts. Lastly Nemophila did 2 really good Maximum the Hormone covers during Covid. The songs are safe to react to and are done really well, Shimi and Zetsbou Billy.
Oh, dang, I thought you guys had reacted to MTH before. Glad to see you enjoyed it. Follow everyone's recommendations for some fun. I know you guys also enjoy Hanabie, and listening to MTH will give you a better understanding as to why. Hanabie formed as an after school music club doing MTH covers. In fact, MTH are a huge influence on the entire Japanese rock/metal scene.
First thing to say about Maximum the Hormone is that they are batsh*t crazy. My favorite songs and videos are "ALIEN" and "Let's talk about Menkata Cottelee", complete insanity combined with fantastic musicianship.
I am 50 and I've listened to metal since 1990. I don't identify as a metal head. I have a personality. There are other types of music. Structure can be good. Lack of structure can be good. Makes no difference to me. I think structure is easier. It's easier to make a good song with song structure. But if it's a good song it's a good song.
Guys… I would like to recommend a band called as Asterism… a three piece metal band from Japan. Incredible talent… I would like to recommend a song called Blaze (LIVE) from Welcome to INFERNO vol. MAX
MTH started as a SOAD cover band - and their bass player is a HUGE Flea fan. Actually, if SOAD and RHCP had a Japanese Love Child - it would surely be MTH. They've been together since 1998, 2 years after SOAD started. Hanabie are HUGE MTH fans, and started as an MTH cover band when they were in High School (maybe jr high school). Another fun one is *Alien* ruclips.net/video/TdwT5JlH8gM/видео.html. There is also a song that is a F*ck you to some of their fans who complained after Ryo lost weight for medical reasons and they said they wanted "Fat Ryo back". That song is *Let's Talk About the Menkata Cottelee* ruclips.net/video/IC-wDpwzEt4/видео.html
You cant really label M.T.H. in any one particular genre. If anything they are a punk band at heart and as such they do whatever they want. Hugely influential in the Japanese metal scene.
I understand what you are saying but there are literally tens of thousands of metal bands and some of them are just gonna slip through the cracks, which is one of the reasons we started this channel.
As you for sure have found out by now, MTH is the main inspiration for many of the young japanese bands you have covered earlier. It's not an exageration to say that MTH have had a decisive role in shaping the japanese metal scene we see today
Jason, FYI, one of your favorite songs, Thunder Vengeance, has an orchestral version (akin to Metallica and San Francisco Symphony). It's the fourth track on their EP at this link: ruclips.net/video/cjl0fiQTvqE/видео.html
I don't care if it doesn't make money. I still feel like I'm 14! says in the lyrics. It teaches me that 14 is a special age. I was impressed after seeing it for the first time in a long time.

the last half of this song is so damn catchy. this band is wild

Japanese bands just totally commit to their craft. They are showing the world how it should be done. Thank God for Japanese metal and rock.
Guys, check ASTERISM songs Church, Dawn, Rising Moon, Gunfire, Blaze....watch her solo's and the 7 string bass solo's..
Hunger pride and utsuku is one of my top personal favorites from them
MTH is certainly different and definitely SOAD vibes. I am an old school metalhead and need structure - verse, verse, solos / breakdown, verse lol. 🤘
Same….most of the time! 🖖🖖

It's probably more accurate to say Maximum The Hormone are the influence honestly, they've been around longer than you might think
I learn great metal I never heard of with you guys 🤘
You cant really label M.T.H. in any one particular genre. If anything they are a punk band at heart and as such they do whatever they want. Hugely influential in the Japanese metal scene.
Took me awhile to get into them but love them now. Try "Alien" next.
Thanks for the recommendation! 🖖🖖
I don't especially love them. But they are undeniably a great band.
Omg I was like wow a huge change
Saw them live last year, they were incredible
Beg, borrow or steal a ticket if you get the chance to see them
I don't think anybody should say they are educated about metal if they've never heard Maximum the Hormone. It's like never hearing Tool or Metallica.
I understand what you are saying but there are literally tens of thousands of metal bands and some of them are just gonna slip through the cracks, which is one of the reasons we started this channel.
@@metalheadsjourney I'm not aiming that at you or anyone. I'm just saying they are an important band. I hadn't heard them either 18 months ago.
That’s my mistake, I misunderstood your meaning. Reading RUclips comments sometimes makes us assume it’s usually negative haha!
Awesome band. My favorite though is 'Hungry Pride". Straight forward metal. Not a lot of change up's. 🤘✌
Also "Benjo Sandal Dance," although the music video was taken down. Akane's drum cover is still up.
They have better songs.
Hungry Pride is too simple.
As you for sure have found out by now, MTH is the main inspiration for many of the young japanese bands you have covered earlier. It's not an exageration to say that MTH have had a decisive role in shaping the japanese metal scene we see today
Alien, Bu-Ikikaesu and “F” their three songs that will absolutely have you on your ass!
I recommend Hungry Pride and Tsume Tsume Tsume. Then you can listen to ALIEN.
love this band
For me they are the japanese version of "System of the down". But with their own flair 🤘

Have the EP, all great songs!
I don't care if it doesn't make money. I still feel like I'm 14! says in the lyrics. It teaches me that 14 is a special age. I was impressed after seeing it for the first time in a long time.
This is an anti-bullying song. Apparently the lead singer (or one of the singers) was bullied in his youth. Great song.
Next song: Hungry Pride
Alien next.
Volume down? Are you that old? Or just not a metalhead at all?
😂 Hey man just trying not to ruin the RUclips upload, I’m doing it for you!
@@metalheadsjourneythanks bro i have listened to this song at least 100 times but i still jumped at the start with ya'all
