So, this song is about the guitarist (who is also the main songwriter for the band) getting bullied in school for being overweight, and the anger and pain he has carried with him because of it.
Yes, they did the Death Note 2nd Opening and Ending ('What's Up People' and 'Zetsubo Billy'). MTH are certainly a trip, you never know what is coming next, and I love it. Going to see them in London next week:-)
They also did F, which inspired Resurrection of F, which is why it's in the film. Because it was a single in 2008 and the album came out in 2013 and the film was 2015.
Not only did MTH do one of the openings and endings for the Death Note anime, but they also did ending 3 for Chainsaw Man and it's well worth a watch. Thanks for the react and I'm glad you liked it ✌️
So, funny that you mention Death Note. These folks did Zetsubou Billy, one of the Death Note ending songs (The 2nd ED if I remember right). Maximum the Hormone are always a hell of a trip.
Ditto, up there with my favorite bands in general. Very unapologetically "them" and I respect the shit out of them for it. Really helped me feel comfortable in my own skin growing up, which probably would make them happy considering the message behind this song lol
thats the only reason why i even like death note not because of the show, its ight, but honestly maximum the hormone, a band i've known about before the anime, became even more huge due to it. Im so happy more and more western people are noticing such an amazing band.
@@averagecat5968 I was surprised at first, just how much I loved the music I was hearing, even if I didn't know the words so I've found several bands now that way. This one shot to the top of the list pretty fast tho, lol.
YES! I love this band. I'm flying to Spain (from Ireland) to see them this Monday. This song you kinda get an hint on how diverse they can be, but a lot of their songs are a journey though genres
You guys are lucky as hell to MTH in Europe. USA got lucky to get Band Maid and Nemophila. But dammit there are too many great Japanese bands we all need to get a chance to see.
Absolutely love this band and this reaction. I think this may be one of their most beginner friendly songs. They do a lot of genre and tempo flipping in all of their songs, and the result is always some really compelling chaos. As for translations, I won't post a full translation (it wouldn't do much good anyway. Their Japanese is pretty broken when they sing) but I can get you most of the way there. Nao (the drummer) opens by singing about the start of 2nd year in middle school. She's describing the guitarist (who is her brother in real life) and his struggles to connect, while he treats a manga magazine as a sort of bible. Her brother does his kind of rap part, where he describes the feeling of standing on a scale that starts at 100 grams, then loops back on itself to indicate 1100grams, then loops again. The pain of being bullied because in the end who can even say how many times it went around? Then a good portion of the song is dedicated to anger. The things he wants to do to those who hurt him. The part at the end where it gets anthem-ey is the process of accepting, the resolution to use music as an outlet, and the hope that this song will be the last time he has to think or talk about it. Kinda. Most of their lyrics aren't full sentences. They kinda paint conceptual pictures with words.
Once you start listening to Japanese music, the language barrier disappears, it no longer matters. You can feel the emotions, the message is clearer...you don't need to understand Japanese to love the music. I've been listening to Japanese music since 2012, almost the the exclusion of any other. If you get a chance to see a band live, I highly recommend it. All you need is to ask, and people will recommend bands left and right.
@@cookiemobers5650 I feel the exact same way. I stumbled upon "Aruiteru" by Morning Musume back in 2010, no idea how. That song was extremely catchy and it has been in my playlists since. Then in like 2020 I came across "PA PA YA" by Babymetal. Got hooked on them right off the bat. Found quite a few bands since. A coworker mentioned them to me after hearing me play some Babymetal at work. Been hooked on MTH since.

I love the band, but when I've uploaded all their official music videos with just english sub added on YT, I got half a year ban from uploading anything, so there you go, no subs for foreigners. By the way lyrics to this song are absolutely epic.
Not me watching this late and hearing you say "this sounds like it would be an intro to DeathNote" and me excitedly shouting at my screen "BECAUSE THEYRE THE ONES THAT DID THE SONGS FOR DEATHNOTE" lmao
They DID do death note. "Whats up People" and "Zetoubo Billy" are the songs you wanna try next. You will instantly recognize them if you watched the anime.
These guys are the reason Frieza is back in Dragon Ball super. Toriama loved their song F that much. It was basically drawing a connection between the fictional dictator's namekian genocide and China's treatment of Tibet.
This band kicks ours in our county in terms of mixing genres. It's like a melt of things thier progression is so far unmatched I just wish I could understand Japanese
if you like mixing of styles i recommend you check out the band skindred (reggea metal) and Diablo Swing Orchestra (opera, swing, metal and a bunch of other stuff)
As much as i love Maximum the Hormone, if you want true "Chaos" i suggest Dir en Grey - Agitated Screams of Maggots. I used to listen to it after school, cause funny enough i find calm in chaos haha. Due warning, you might not wanna film it!
