This is precisely what i was looking for. Thank you so much! I studied physics and math and I'm always looking for really good, just realistic enough sci-fi.
Your videos are brilliant and take a much more sophisticated nuanced approach to comics. It is so refreshing to find a comics based youtuber with taste. Thank you so much for these videos they are amazing!
Your preparation, dedication it's incredible. I can't even imagine how much money you spend. This channel deserves much more because you put out really masterpieces and variations not only dudes beating each others (apparently this is the other channels propose). The only way I'm trying to help you is to watch every advertise they put till the end. This is the minimum I can do.
Thank you so much, that's very kind of you to say. I'm really happy you appreciate the effort - as an absolute amateur and beginner with video, I am never sure if I am doing things right. And luckily, it is just a hobby and not a job, so I am free to make whatever I want in without having to think about having huge crowds as an audience. =) I hope you keep enjoying the videos!
I have, and I really enjoyed it! I have yet to read _The Underwater Welder_ , but almost every creator-owned work of Lemire's I've read has had much to recommend it!
Well I'd say one way of differentiating Science Fiction and Superheroes is to consider the former as a genre and the latter as a trope (rather than a genre)! I really love everytheing by Brian K. Vaughan and "Saga" was the first series by him that I read... Although I have only till the TPB Volume 5!
How interesting! I've always approached 'tropes' the way I do 'motifs' - as repeating elements or collection of elements. Superhero stories definitely have a number of very recognizable tropes, so the intersection is great, especially with the domination of the Marvel/DC template. Definitely worth me thinking about in more detail!
Love your videos. And it's great to see you are interested in a wide range of comics. Moebius is one of my favourites. Do you know the work of Don Lawrence? He painted the comics Trigain Empire and Storm ( also one of my favourites )
Planetes is certainly deserving of a "runner-up" top ten spot! It's one of those impeccably told stories that you nevertheless find yourself not returning to read a second time, for whatever reason. I have two comics I'm expecting to see in your top ten, and I'm curious to see where you put them. (On the other hand, the story of one is so incredibly bizarre--you may guess what I'm referring to--that I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't make your list at all.)
Thank you! I would love to as well, but funnily I just made that video on how things are taking me longer the more I want to do! Just need to get those skills up there to minimize the time without sacrificing the quality!
Have you read Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou? Somewhat like Rust, it is set on a post apocalyptic world that is actually quiet bucolic. It's a light and peaceful read, although a bit melancholic. About Planetes, I like it a lot too. It's sci fi, but in some decades maybe it won't be sooo "fi" anymore, isn't it? Very cool. Thx for the video!
Thank *you* for watching and commenting! Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou sounds very interesting; I'm definitely looking that up. And yes, Planetes is almost-there sci-fi, and the focus on the human relationships (at least what I have seen from Vol 1) makes it feel all the more real!
Wow! Can't wait to see your top ten picks if all those great works are just in your honorable mentions. + + + I love Top Ten as well! Is the more popular Tom Strong going to qualify? It also has some superhero elements, but I would argue that it has more of a pulp flavor and style than a pure superhero one. + + + I understand your choice of leaving out the Incal out. Moebius art is pure joy to look at, but I always had problems eally getting into Jodoworsky's stories. A good science fiction comic book starts with a great, well-written story, and the Incal does not always deliver in that department. + + + Zot! is one of the best thing I have ever read, but I understand why you left it out. Not sure it would have sprung in mind if I had to pick my top ten "science fiction" comic book.
Yes, I would definitely think 'pulp science hero' when I think of Tom Strong, which means that it always has a good shot. =) In making my many final lists, I tried to be as hard on my favourites as I could - there's definitely a difference between 'best' and 'favourite', but also 'several great comics' may not always be the first things one thinks of when thinking 'great sci-fi (or any other, specific, genre) comics'. Sorting between them is part of the joy in making lists! =)
your videos are so informative! hope you do more on classic comicstrips like walt skeezix, popeye and orphan annie and kin-der-kids. oh also dick tracy.these are rare/super expensive and not available online to read. would be awesome if you could get these to show us :D
Sohan Surag Haha! I had initially hoped to make both videos this week but the fates conspired against me! Hopefully by the middle of next week? Now that I’ve said it, I have to do it...
Oh no, a quiz! I'm terrible at these. Do you mean Divinity by Matt Kindt? If you are, I talk about it a bit in one of my 'Recent Reads and New Arrivals' videos...
Okay, guess I'll wait to see your tip-top ten...but I warn ya--I got titles waitin'. Meanwhile...it's interesting to me that I grew tired of both Incal and Saga. Started Planates once, don't remember why I didn't continue with it. Rust I don't know and will look for. Now Top Ten--that's a worthy addition! Lovelace and Babbage, too. But alas, you I just disagree about Matt K: he just doesn't catch my attention. Rasl, too, alas, not for me. But...but..Finder? Oh yes! Really amazing. Zot!--would never have considered it as SF--but okay, sure! Definitely one of my favorite...superhero comics..! So, okay, you didn't mention ANY of what would be likely -my- top ten, so I'll have to wait and see what you choose. And then I'll tell what I'd add, hehehheh.
Ignoring the strikethrough to read the words beneath - truly postmodern and worthy of a sci-fi thread! And yes, I have no doubts there will be many differences. Perhaps you'd like to name your runner-ups for now? =)
Iعبدو abdo I’ve only read the first six issues so far. It’s interesting and I definitely want to read more but I don’t think I’ve gotten enough, or enough representative stuff, to make a final judgement yet.
It's one of those books my eyes and head love but doesn't reach into my heart. I have attempted re-reading it a couple of times, and I always end up losing patience and flipping around because the plot, characterization, compulsions and consequences just don't work for me, but I love what I am looking at. I don't call it 'style over substance' because there's incredible substance in the art and design, but the writing half of the comics 'story' lets it down, in my opinion.
This is precisely what i was looking for. Thank you so much! I studied physics and math and I'm always looking for really good, just realistic enough sci-fi.
Thank you - so glad you liked it! I hope you enjoyed the Part 2 of this video as well!
a nice suggestion for your Sci-Fi collection is The Trigan Empire, maybe I have overlooked them in your shelf tour
No, you haven’t overlooked that- I’ll need to look it up! Thanks!
Your videos are brilliant and take a much more sophisticated nuanced approach to comics. It is so refreshing to find a comics based youtuber with taste. Thank you so much for these videos they are amazing!
Hamid Hussain Thank so much for the excessive praise!😀 I’m so glad to know you’re enjoying the channel and hope you continue to do so!

Have you read Trillium by Lemire? Not saying it belongs on the top 10 but I just finished and it was pretty wild.
I have, and I really enjoyed it! I have yet to read _The Underwater Welder_ , but almost every creator-owned work of Lemire's I've read has had much to recommend it!
Great list. Do you know Mathieu Blablet's "Shangri-la"? Another great sci-fi comics is Moebius' "The World of Edena".
I'm a fan of Edena but I have not encountered Shangri-La yet; I'm going to look it up, thanks!

Saga by BKV is my favorite as well. It's just so good. Still waiting for the second half of the story.
Love your videos. And it's great to see you are interested in a wide range of comics. Moebius is one of my favourites. Do you know the work of Don Lawrence? He painted the comics Trigain Empire and Storm ( also one of my favourites )
Thank you so much! And no, I don't believe I've ever encountered Don Lawrence. I'm going to see what I can find! Cheers!

Oh, I look forward to seeing if you get them right! It is, of course, always subjective, but the fun is in comparing lists and reasons, isn't it? =)
You're simply a brilliant presenter. Would be glad for you to be totally prolific with your output of content!
Thank you! I would love to as well, but funnily I just made that video on how things are taking me longer the more I want to do! Just need to get those skills up there to minimize the time without sacrificing the quality!
Awesome video!
Can't wait for the next one.
So I checked out Rust and since last year they released the fourth volume.
You can complete it now.
Thanks so much; you just made my day! 😁

Planetes is so great! So glad I got both omnibuses, the second one is woefully out of print.
Gio Ravalico Ah that’s why the price jumped so high so suddenly! I guess I’ll have to get lucky with a used copy or await a reprint.

That was some cliffhanger.😁 When can we expect the next video?
Sohan Surag Haha!
I had initially hoped to make both videos this week but the fates conspired against me! Hopefully by the middle of next week? Now that I’ve said it, I have to do it...
@@ftloc If its any motivation, we'd be looking forward to it. 😀
I love Top Ten! Glad you mentioned it.
I'm glad to see it get some love!
Sci Fi is my favorite genre in all media 👍
And it's a great mixer - sci-fi noir, sci-fi horror, sci-fi political thriller, and the list goes on! I'm tempted to call it a supergenre 😊
The metabarons saga by Alejandro jordowksy and Juan gimenz the incal by Alejandro jordowksy and moebius technopreists by jordowksy
Did you check out myprevious (Almost) my Top 10...video? I mention the Incal in there! And then there's a spotlight video on it separately as well!
I want to see how good you are what's the name of the comic of the astronauts that find God?
Oh no, a quiz! I'm terrible at these.
Do you mean Divinity by Matt Kindt?
If you are, I talk about it a bit in one of my 'Recent Reads and New Arrivals' videos...
Love this list.
Thank you! Another one coming (hopefully) soon!

I really love ‘Digitek’! ❤️
I've never read it! I'll have to look it up and see if anything is available easily for me to check out, thanks!
For the Love of Comics Cool! Its a marvel mini series btw! And Deathlock the Cyborg makes some appearances! ❤️
Hey CUZZO memmder me the comic is called nameless by Grant Morrison ✔️ it out let me know what U 🤔.
I will, thanks!
What your thought on cerebus ?
Iعبدو abdo I’ve only read the first six issues so far. It’s interesting and I definitely want to read more but I don’t think I’ve gotten enough, or enough representative stuff, to make a final judgement yet.

Thanks
2001 nights is a sci-fi masterpiece
Thanks for yet another tip; I'll look it up!
Valerian and laureline by pierre christin an mezzeres
I'll give Valerian another shot...
Sorry about the test. U know Ur stuff
haha thank you - but now I must know, what is the comic you are referring to?
No that' wasn't it. Divinity is great though I enjoyed it very much. The astronauts I'm talking about don't become gods they actually meet him or it.
Now I must know 😁
Among the more recent books I've read, I killed Adolf Hitler easily makes it to my Top Sci Fi books of all times.
To spoil or not to spoil...
How is Incal not in the top 10, dammit??!!
It's one of those books my eyes and head love but doesn't reach into my heart.
