As you mention, calling these GI home recorders “lathes” is a misnomer. I had one that was incorporated in two portable cases by Wilcox-Gay, which also included an AM radio. By doing some tinkering and using a sapphire stylus, it was possible to make fairly good recordings
Dad had one of these. He recorded Spike Jones radio shows. It worked really well. You can play back recordings on the same machine, don't know why you use the Magnavox player.
I got mine at a local antiques shop. I've also seen people get these with with the lathe. They might come up on ebay every once in a blue moon, though.
Strictly speaking, not a recording lathe. The mechanisms were manufactured by General Industries and incorporated in many home recorders.

Very nice, i used a same headcutter
I appreciate the song selection, is the audio of this video a good representation of how the record sounds?
The sound was recorded from my camera's mike, so you're hearing what I heard. I haven't processed the audio at all.
How do you get one of those blank records
