Imagine listening to Abbey Road for the first time, then 2 weeks later this comes out
To be fair, it isn't *that* large of a leap to go from something like She's So Heavy to this. They were just going for different styles of music and both arguably produced some of the finest tunes put to tape.
Beatles were instrumentally simplistic & had very basic melodies
@@MrJCerqueiraI agree the melodys in this song are simple too it’s mostly the pentatonic minor blues scale
It surprises me that this was from 1969, there was nothing really this technical at the time besides maybe Zappa, but still he wasn't as heavy as this was.
Edit: When I say "technical" I mean switching time signatures on a whim, speeding up and slowing down at random, super complex song structures and guitar lines, noise coming in-and-out of nowhere, can only recall Zappa and some jazz musicians doing this stuff at the time, but these guys merged it with hard rock and turned it into something new. It was like heavy prog.

Yes.. Please, Robert.
Actually, Robert, if you do read this, I'll second the motion. Mr Rick Beato's videos are purely appreciative and are made for entirely educational purposes. He taught jazz guitar at University when he was younger and later became a producer. His channel, called Everything Music, is dedicated to celebrating the technical aspects of creating, and the emotional impacts of, many modern classics, such as your track above. Indeed the album "In The Court Of The Crimson King" featured in his "Top 20 Best Debut Albums Ever!" recently. Unfortunately he was unable to delve deeply into a discussion about the hows and whys because the small 9 second excerpt he chose to edit into his video (as a reference) was blocked by youtube on behalf of your management company.
I can understand that but I do believe that in this instance it would have been apropos to an even fuller appreciation of the track and its place in the history of music to have allowed Rick this one pass. In fact, to reiterate the point above; I believe it would be of service the the legacy of King Crimson to allow him to produce one of his "What makes this song great?!" videos about any of the King Crimson library.
I for one would be delighted to watch it!

Amico caro , King Crimson hanno composto una miriade di brani meravigliosi….ti consiglio di ascoltarli tutti , ti piacerà .
The single greatest crime in the history of rock and roll is the fact that Michael Giles' name isn't spoken in the same breath as John Bonham, Keith Moon, and Neil Peart. I never knew how incredible of a drummer he was until I made the conscious decision to listen to King Crimson, and even then I still had to look up his name.
He did it to himself by quitting Crimson
He just nailed it. Just awesome. He should have stayed with them.
@@jimcharles651all because he felt homesick. Like WTF?!
Fripp said Giles was the best drummer he ever played with, even better than bruford!

This song is so ahead of its time it predicted the problems with modern society 50 years in advance
I'm pretty sure they were describing what was happening at the time, it's just that nothing has really changed since then.

In October of 1969 an old friend brought over the album to hear for the first time. After the initial shock from the disturbing cover, I placed the record player needle on the vinyl, and was completely knocked off of my chair at what I heard, which was not like any music before it. Even at 15 years old, I knew this was an important musical statement. And from that moment on, and to this day I become a prog rock fan. And the album will be a milestone masterpiece of music forever.
I am 73* Will always be a fan!!!
Love the lyrics of Peter Sinfield and Greg Lake🎉
RIP Ian Mcdonald. Your legacy lives on forever in this album and in this song particular
it gives me shivers just thinking about how well this song was composed

There is no doubt that this is the song that changed the music of the 60s. I love King Crimson
I wish I could listen to 5:47 for the first time again. The build up to that moment is so perfect and when that guitar comes in...Amazing

Robert Fripp is one of the best guitarist who ever played. His innovations are 2nd to none.

are you perhaps an Italian mafia boss?
If you have split personality disorder then go ahead
if you feel like revealing your ability of basically not existing for the maximum of 10 seconds and then appearing put of nowhere and somehow make nobody remember the time you disappeared while using it then fuck it, do it
Look out for this Blonde Italian kid and his freinds, they’re after you.
That could mean two different things, either can end horribly both to you and the frenchman
Help I can’t stop listening to this
No help. You will listen to this until your dying breath.
I don t see the problem
How was this made in 1969? It is genuinely shocking how ahead of the time these guys were, so sick
Mr. Fripp, someone who was a young Ukrainian guitarist some 25 years ago still remembers your generous gift :)

I still find it surprising that they aren't as popular as the should be, especially here in America.
Popularity tends to corelate with relatability and or projection; less so than estoric excellence.

Utterly phenomenal. How must this have sounded back in 1969 is mind boggling!
