Mr. Ralfy - great job. I am impressed by the accuracy of your conclusions and recommendations. It is a great experience for me and a great pleasure to understand better and better how to enjoy single malt. I absolutely agree with you that we must force producers to improve the quality of distillates with our attitude. Thanks for the great job you are doing. Please don't stop. Have a good weekend.
Great information again! T’Internet - and you especially - are really helping me make my whisky journey very efficient, saving me from some bad choices, and showing me where to look and what to look for.
Thanks for those reviews of Independent bottles. They are useful. Even if I can't get the exact same bottle, it's nice to hear an opinion of the bottler. Plus I see that a lot of people are buying Benrinnes from different IBs. So I figure this distillery works, and I am going to buy a bottle of it, either from Adelphi, or someone else.
Ralfy if you haven't already, get yourself a bottle (or three) of the Thompson brother's blended malt SRV5. It's 8 years old, 48.5%, about £35. Top quality, top value.
Hello Ralfy, thanks for the insides. Great video as always. You helped me a lot on my whisky journey. Little reminder that the video is still private, if you forgot to make it public. Greetings from germany
Have to send off to Spain for the IBs Ralfy. And funnily enough, for half the price in the UK pre brexit. A quarter to a third of the price post brexit when customs and excise are considered.
Higher standards begin with consumers. Many of the same people who will tell you that they would "like" more transparency with regard to production information also expect other people to get for them while they buy whatever comes down the pike for "fear of missing out". Customers have to actively reject the marketing/labelling which helps to keep these substandard products on the shelf if for no other reason than BECAUSE it helps to keep these substandard products on the shelf. Consumers have to become the whisky market that they want to see.
I see you are a fan of Dr Who. I knew there was something I liked about you! Well, other than being a hip, honest, whisky reviewer. Just finished a bottle of Edradour natural color non chill filtered, cask strength, bourbon cask matured 10 yr. Excellent, glad I bought 2 bottles! Different than what you reviewed but still wonderful whisky. Thanks, M. D.
Can you imagine how mediocre Scotch whisky would be without the independent bottlers? Those guys are always pushing boundaries and innovating in a way no big industry player could.
The whole ecosystem, from blends to NAS to standard bottles to use independent bottles are what make scotch great. No other liquor has that range of styles, prices, and options.
Greeting Mr Ralfy and happy weekend, you missed rose vodka 😜 pink gin lol, so funny. Thank you for your informative reviews , today you sounded a lot like tv news reader , I was waiting for a commercial break in between 😁
Before Brexit there was an option to buy on MOM or TEW with delivery to Poland, after Brexit there's no option available any more, but still you can buy with delivery to Germany, this same Brexit from EU and different treatment, strange a little bit...
Hail Impex importers/bottlers. Got your GlenA Sherry barrel from them Ralfy, and after they did official bottlings, they have some very cool stuff, including some old single grain whiskeys
Hey Ralfy, I remember you talking about how the SWA killed Glen Breton. It’s now available again in NY state, the ten year and an ice wine finish. Hope to buy one next month.
@@rafarutka4823 I am not doing advertising, but its Kirsch Import. Their exclusive releases are often stunners. For example they had the right to exclusivly marketed a Ardbeg 1979 from SV, the oldest release of Ardbeg so far.
The indie market in the UK is still seen as a barometer by new world distilleries. Hopefully now that Mr S at the Whisky Exchange has sold up (and my understanding is that the distribution rights for certain distilleries were sold as part of the deal) we'll get to see some more Indian (Amrut) whiskey going to indie bottlers in the UK. There should be a indie bottle on Indian whiskey coming out before the end of the year. The Australian's want to come into the UK indie market as well!
Hello Ralfy! I've always meant to ask: Why do independent bottlers do what they do? What is their long term plan? Do they aspire to become distillers? Or maybe increase their stocks more and more and become a bigger company?
I know this was toward Ralfy, and I'll leave the overarching answer/s or rather perspective to him and others, but I'll "add/remind" that many of them are owned by distillers, importers and other companies we already know. It's just diversification of portfolios and having a stake in every market segment, for that crew- and it is a laaarge crew. It's like a restaurant that sells food, beverage and dessert. Beverage makes the most money per sale, but let's say everyone is coming primarily for the food, some may come just for dessert or 2 out of those 3. Your friend on a diet that eats salad gets to order something they sell, but they can't go to a brewpub that doesn't have one. Ok, that one sucked. But think Johnny Walker... the Green label exists for those of us that moved past their blends, esp in recent times. So this way, they keep us interested enough, so we buy one on occasion. To where they never truly lose the entire market segment of whiskey aficionados. Malt mates is probably better. But yes, this is a way to stay competitive in every area for these businesses and diversifying their source of revenues.
Hey Ralfy , can you recommend your top 5 NAS’s . I tried a wee dram of Ardbeg Uigeadail that I had bought as a present for a good friend who then shared with me. I got to tell you Ralfy it was a Peat epiphany for me, being a Speysider generally . I know they’re not usually your bag , mine either. I cannot get the taste out of head. Is it really OK to be this promiscuous? 😉 It could be the makings of a good mini series 🙏
IBs and bls dealers tend to buy old and good stuff, and if more and more of them doing that, most good materials of small distilleries will be in shortage. Maybe that’s the reason a lot of core range bottles have much lower quality in recent years?
Ralfy how one can find genuine indipendent bottler? & I have red a news about Glenturret distilary that they have released 50yr old whisky & only 150 bottles are to be released retail@ £40000 .. but article also mentioned that earlier this year some indipendent bottler's asking price for Glenturret 44yr old bottle was £4500 each (total 163 bottles).. so how we can find out that Indipendent bottler is geniune or the price of a whisky which release by any distilary is not over priced.. Based on this example 50yr Distilary released bottles @£40000 & 44yr old bottle priced @£4500 by Indipendent bottler!!??
The house heating thing is local to you, it's not world wide. That may be though why there seem to be a variety of independent bottlings turning up in New Zealand. If they can''t sell it in Britain it will go where it wiill sell. Although the ones with four figure price tags won't be selling to me.
Just going to say it ralfy but u said the island of Ireland u know thats not exactly right now is it after all the oldest distillery in the world is in northern ireland now
Presentation isn't everything .But it does count for something but if the product can't back up the lable then we are back to the same thing ,over priced whiskey because the bottle and the image costs more than what's inside the bottle

As a long time follower of this channel, owner of both your publications, and subscriber of your philosophy site, I liken myself as a true Ralfy enthusiast. However, as a U.S. resident of Ohio, who finds its extremely difficult to find an integrity bottling at an affordable price, I do become weary of what comes across as your snobbish opinion of lesser malts. Yes, in a perfect world we would all enjoy pure single malts w/o adulteration at an affordable cost. Please consider not disparaging other lesser malts that may still be enjoyable, despite their faults. 🙏

Great extra, Ralfy! Fair play to you mentioning Master of Malt and the Whisky Exchange. I've used both and find them very good retailers.

Here in Germany there is one importer, that is even market themselves as "A Home for Independent bottlers". And they often get the good stuff.
