Greetings from Wisconsin, United States! The lamp shades are a wonderful addition and I like the roller shades also for the front porch. They must help by keeping out the sun, rain and insects. The grinding machine for the coconut is a game changer that makes the process so much easier. Walking on the beach drone shots were a beautiful ending to your story. I always have to watch your vlogs twice, because I enjoy them so much. Thank you for sharing your lives on the island and how you made the banana wrapped sweet goodness. 🙂
Aww thank you so much Deborah! I never liked the sound of my own voice 🫣 but i guess no one likes their iwn voice haha. But thank you so much for letting me know you like it and find it calming 🫶🏼❤️
I just found your channel and I’m inspired by you’re lifestyle Please keep sharing and teaching us There is nothing like your channel It is pure and raw nature
5:17 just sharing local knowledge... FYI I’m not sure what type of banana tree those leaves are from. Actually, leaves from various types of banana trees can be used different ways. However, leaves from the “Pisang Kepok” or “Pisang Batu” These varieties are ideal for wrapping food because they can be folded without breaking, even without needing to dry them first.. So, if leaves from other types crack when folded, that’s to be expected. That’s why in the pasar, you usually only find leaves from these two types for banana tree the Pisang Kepok dan Pisang Batu, because they can be folded without tearing. FYI. love your channel by the way...
Leaves from pisang kepok and pisang batu can crack too. The reasons people use that leaves because they will still green and give green mark even after being cooked, while other type of banana leaves can turn red instead after being cooked and it will leave red mark on the food which is not desirable. Also pisang kepok and pisang batu generally have bigger leaves
We make something very similar in the Caribbean called Paime. We pass the banana leaves over a low flame to make it pliable as opposed to sun drying it.
Amazing! So funny that you make the same thing on the other side of the world! We also put it over a flame but I prefer just putting it in the sun so I have my hands free to do something different î the meantime 😉
In Northern Philippines, we have moriecos similar to the lape. Glutinous Rice powder with ground peanuts or the latik ( coconut milk residue after making coconut oil).
Nice to see another video. I love the machine you used for the coconut grating. I noticed you don't use a bowl to catch the coconut water as it drips. Here in Nigeria, we drink rhe water. It's actually quite tasty and we believe it's medicinal. Have you tried it?
Late to view but I never miss. I really like and appreciate your videos. You two are living such a rewarding, satisfying life for sure. A bit envious to be honest.
That looks soo delicious. Here in Puerto Rico we make something called pasteles. Pasteles are savory the base is made with root vegetables like taro root and green banana and others I don't know the English names to. They are then stuffed with some sort of stewed meat... similar to how you stuffed those ... we then wrap them in banana leaves and boil them just like you did!! And just like you mentioned they have to cool down a bit so they can set ... like a pie... Its so fascinating to see cultures on the other side of the world using similar techniques to cook different foods ... these look delicious I want to try making these.
Love your videos, binge watch it all in 1 day, very interesting. Please show us what you buy during market day and how much is the cost. Can’t wait for next video, stay safe and take care! 😁
We call that suman back home in Philippines. We will use sweet potato or cassava root or any roots crops. It is so yummy. Sweet memories in my childhood days. Thank you for sharing your day namaste.
Here in south India ~a day after heavy rain millions of flying termites show up at dusk attracted by any light. So we either switch everything off for 20 minutes or leave only an outside lamp on to divert them. IF such a light stays on full night one may find a huge pile of dead insects below it in the morning.
wonderful 🍃 i can say I'm always learning something I'd like to try and use where i am here in the subtropics.. Nice to see the banana leaves softening with just the sun ! we don't have that sweet plant though ~ When on bali in '87, i loved the food so much, i tried to take street food back with me on the plane ..! 😁
Whoop Whoop, i liked the video & will watch it later. Best end to a Sunday afternoon. It's 3pm Sunday in South Africa. Great to see you & An again. Much Love 🌍💌🔥🔥🔥🔥👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Yay, another new video!!!🎉 That recipe looks so good. My mouth was watering. As a kid I remember my mom putting some pandan leaves in when she cooked the rice. It just made it smell so good, even if we were eating it with savoury dishes. Coz I know that normally pandan is only used for sweet dishes. Anyway, maybe you should try it and let me know what you think. As usual, I loved your video. That walk by the beach at the end was just stunning. All the best until your next video👋🫶🏻
Watch from the very beginning of your first video. And Whoop-Whoop every Sunday, I have like 8 RUclips channels that I'm watching. So relaxing...ya ya👏🏻👏🏻. Thanks for the update.🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I could relate your life there with what we have when I was in the Philippines. One suggestion to your banana leaves: Instead of drying it in the sun, we do it in the flame/fire. We call it "halob" by exposing the leaves on fire briefly until it looks shiny, then it would become soft and not easy to tear. That's what we use in wrapping root crops or sweet rice. You can try to Google it in "Panlasang Pinoy" recipes.
Lot easier to heat the banana leaves on the fire 🔥 . It will make it more flexible. We do that alot in the island but with sago palm starch or banana. I will definitely try your recipe. Looks yum 😋
Nice video!! Pandai mrs An buat kuih! Try it!😊
Beautiful! ❤ Thank you for sharing your day with us :) That dessert looks delicious! Love the process of making it. Btw do you guys ever go swimming at the beach there to cool down? Are there sharks around there?
Am I the only one who gets nervous watching her walk in the brush of the forest? lol. I can tell you a very aware and always looking down, but still! I don’t think I could be that brave unless I knew I had some anti-venom on me, or at the very least back at the house😅

Hey is Samoa we wave the fresh banana leaves over a flame to make them soft to enable wrapping our food for cooking without tearing.
Yes we do that here to but the sun does the job too and then i have my hands free to do other things in the meantime 😜
