In 2018, the Yankees looked to be in good shape with their future, having two players in Miguel Andujar and Gleyber Torres, finishing 2nd and 3rd in the AL Rookie of the Year voting behind Shohei Ohtani. Now, both players aren’t on the team.
Hoping for a replacement that’s more from the mold of a Randolph or Sax, over a Cano or Torres. Give me talent AND heart any day over these talented yet heartless players.
Cano played 160 games a year and played great offense and defense. I didn't like the jogging out routine groundballs from him but comparing any of those 3 players to Cano is a joke. Hell even comparing Sax to Randolph is an insult to Randolph who was a really good underrated player.
Randolph was and will always be "the man." Very consistent. Knoblauch was pretty good too for the 4-years he was there, sans the 98' gm 2 bone head play at 1st in the 12th. But Randolph was Monument Park great period, that's why he's there - look up his stats.
Maybe Torres bad habits do not show up if Girardi was still managing instead of Bubbles. This current Yankees team does not play clean crisp baseball, and that all rests on management both Cashman and Bubbles. It is nice to see Torres leave.
Detroit signing names to draw people to the ballpark rather than real stars. The one thing everyone talks about is the Yankees collapse in Game 5 in the World Series, but the Series was lost in Game 1 when Gleyber muffed a simple throw in from right field that allowed Ohtani to take third and eventually score to tie the game. If not for that error the Yankees win Game 1 and go home 1-1 instead of down 0-2 and the Series would've looked far different.
no they benched him for hitting like my grandmother for 2 and a half seasons. They didn't bench him for being lazy or even for being terrible for one year. If he was even halfway decent he never would have been benched.
@ you are correct but what I said was part of it. In particular, and check it, he made a dumb base running, he forgot there weren’t two outs. Anyway, his bad hitting was the main reason… and I purport that laziness is the reason for that lack of good at bats.
Torres his first 2 years was a franchise cornerstone. He would have gotten a big time extension if he kept it up. But after that he regressed and became Homer happy with poor effort and mental lapses. If he progressed he would have been inked to a mega deal years ago
That juiced ball season ruined his offensive approach long term. Only after he got benched did he figure out something. But the baseball iq regarding the defensive and on base aspect of his game never got better either unfortunately.
Based on what exactly? Volpe hustles all the time. He doesn't make a bunch of mental errors. He doesn't get picked off because he isn't paying attention. You need to have some actual.reasoning for saying things. And literally nothing in Volpes play or manner should lead anyone to think he was going to stop caring.
If he is smart he will get rid of the cement glove he has been using and buy a leather one. Also, some time in the gym over the winter wouldn’t hurt him either.
I'm ok with this!! Lack of heart, too lazy, undisciplined, everyday focus, and not being motivated enough is why he is no longer a Yankee! He had so much time to right the ship, I guess it was not that important! I do not understand why Brian kept him this long!
I could finish the sentence with 2 words. Anyone saying Gleyber is lazy, I'll tell you this... You're correct. Didn't take much effort at all, which would mean it still was probably too much for Gleyber to give.
Not me, because if he did well, it would mean he actually started making an effort. And if he suddenly starts making an effort for another team, all I will be is even more pissed he wouldn't try for us. Screw that guy. I hope he continues being exactly who he is and is out of the league rapidly. He wastes his talent and doesn't deserve to be there.
If Boone doesn't switch Volpe and Gleyber in the lineup after the team's unbelievable start they both finish with batting averages thirty points higher
Seeing a Pat Kelly mention in 2024 was not what I expected. I actually remember watching him when he was on the Albany Colonies Yankees (AA). Him, Bernie and Gerald Williams were all there together.
I have no regrets about letting Gleyber walk, he didn't run hard, hustle or field particularly well...I hope he has success, but I grew tired of watching his lackadaisical attitude...even if successful, won't miss him
