You're so amazing. I don't think I've ever heard someone be so open and vulnerable about their mental health. Wow. So helpful for people going through similar things. So eloquently put. We need more black women and men talking about their experiences.
Your delivery and transparency on this very sensitive topic, particularly in the African community was absolutely excellent. It was a presentation of vulnerability, resilience, strength and determination to get better and stay better. You have a beautiful spirit and I wish you abundant good health and the joy of the Lord.💜
Ronke, just wanted to let you know that you’re a special person. I’ve been watching you for years and you’re an OG before IG, one of the founding mothers of peak Beauty/lifestyle RUclipsrs, I don’t care what any other person says, also in tune with your vulnerability? This added side of you only makes me love you more. Never stop using your voice, never stop creating, you’re awesome ❤️, omo to shan!!
Professional therapist here who was also recently diagnosed with ADHD (which has brought so much clarity to my life. So glad to know that I am neurodivergent and can unmask). Thank you for normalizing this! Most people don't realize that the mind and body are one. Our brain, whether consciously or unconsciously tells our body what to feel and our body does the same for our brain. Mania is nothing to be ashamed of and is just as real as any physical illness that manifests in the body. Our emotions are real and biologically wired! Please listen to yourself, learn what your emotions mean, and validate and cater to your emotions! The body keeps the score and pregnancy hormones can throw us completely off-kilter. I've learned that it is healthier for me to do the opposite of what my brain and body tell me to do when I am experiencing a negative emotion and it has been extremely helpful. Wishing everyone peace and health!
Wait, please clarify what you mean in the last part because it's contradictory. On one hand you say to listen to yourself, learn what your emotions mean and validate and cater to your emotions but then you typed that it is healthier for you to do the opposite of what your brain and body tell you to do when experiencing a negative emotion...
Hey! It’s difficult to explain but I will do my best with an example. A person with depression may experience lethargy, apathy, and loss of appetite. These are all symptoms created by the brain and body to tell you something is wrong and as a result your brain is trying to get you to go inactive. The brains says go inactive and withdraw as symptoms to get you to realize you are hurting. But if you do exactly what depression asks you to do you will stay depressed. If you do the opposite, such as going out, doing enjoyable things, exercising, or hanging with friends you create endorphins and dopamine and start to feel better, eventually defeating your depression with your behavior (the treatment is called behavioral activation). I hope this explains some of what may have seemed contradictory.
@@sineadcowins4501Pretty much what the movie “A Beautiful Mind” is about…I think. That was powerful! The ability to get your mind to unthink what it’s telling you.
Ok, I’m contemplating writing a comment because it might not be well understood. But, I’m comfortable saying this because of the demographic of your audience here. The issue of mental health goes deeper than meets the eye. It’s helpful to put a name and label these issues however we know that what ever is manifesting in the physical is something that has already taken place in the spiritual. It’s not cool to talk about this but all doctors are doing, is manage the problem. I have been suicidal but I was never able to afford seeing a therapist. God met me and even though I was still stubborn about what I was going through, without doctors and medication, (which I don’t recommend for anyone) the shackles came off. Let’s lean more into our spiritual journey, that’s where our true healing starts ❤
Amen 🙏 i was also healed from mental health issues through prayer. The lord Jesus Christ set me free i noticed this is a generational curse from my paternal side of the family. I advocate for seeking help from God I'm not against medication or science but it doesn't deal with the root cause of the problem. May the Lord Jesus Christ help us out on this earthly journey ❤
What works for you does not work for ALL patients. I am a healthcare professional so I respect your healing, but please understand that mental health has very steep differences with accompanying clinical diagnostics.
My mental health issues was not manic but I do have bad days…I still can’t even contact people unless they contact me, I am very detached from family, friends and people. I only interact when necessary.I have seen several therapist and I am very aware of my condition - it comes and goes - PTSD, Depression and anxiety and I avoid stressful things to keep me safe- it is also spiritual attacks- but God is the ultimate healer.
Wow!😮😮😮😮😮😱😱😱😱😱😱 My God! You went through so much! So sorry about all these. Covid really was terrible for many people. I'm glad you are alive and well.
Here I am watching you for the first time, my son’s name is Omari, also 5, and also autistic. Thank you for being so transparent, your story is helping so many others 🫶🏾
Such a beautiful story. My big sis is going through mania right now, but she refuses to take medicine. It's been tough, but I'm hopeful she will realize she needs help.
Thanks for sharing your story. Navigating mental health is far from easy but I am happy you’ve started to gain the pieces of yourself again. Wishing you all the best moving forward 🙏🏾💗✨
The legs part !!! I worked in mental health homes for years and one of my clients was 30 and she had schizophrenia and one day she just stopped walking. Nothing was wrong with her physically at all. We got her spine checked etc for injuries and she was fine. Her brain went into overload and she just stopped walking 😭😪
That’s the sad part about opening up about mental health - sometimes your hurt from being mistreated but people blame it on your mental health issues 💔 Currently RUclips is my only social media and I appreciate you for still valuing this platform and posting Ronke ❤
It’s nothing worse than people using your diagnosis against you. People will literally make you feel like you’re crazy when it’s them doing the crazy shxt 😭
You are a gift to this world❤️❤️❤️. Thank you for being who you are. I loved the part where you draw the line between the diagnosis and how it doesnt define who you are. Thank you!!
Beautiful. I really love how with everything you have gone thru you are able to remember and communicate exactly what happened in order to help others. Good for you Ronke!
Thank you for sharing. You are amazing, your resilience, vulnerability, and humanizing yourself in the midst of all the struggles🙌🏾🫂 Be blessed, and continue thriving.
Hey Ronke. Thanks for sharing your story I've been there too same year with you around winter which means around July when you was sick n I was watching you a lot that time.Wish I can tell you the whole but I can't here anyway all I wanted to say is am connected to u Ronke I just don't know how but I am.
To anyone reading this: You can love God and see a therapist. You can love God and take medication. You can go to church every Sunday, Bible study every Wednesday, and still be connected with mental health services. If you broke your leg right now, something tells me most people wouldn't sit at home and only pray over it. God put doctors, psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, therapists, and counselors here for a reason, TO HELP. If you were diagnosed with cancer, or high blood pressure, or diabetes, or any physical illness for that matter, would you forego seeing a specialist and pray it away? Nope. Folks head right to the oncologist, cardiologist, and endocrinologist. Isn't it interesting how people can take metformin, insulin, and beta blockers while also engaging in their religious or spiritual practices? When did the brain stop being part of body, like every other cell, like an artery, like a kidney? Mental health care is HEALTH care. It's okay. God won't be angry with you! Medications WORK. Therapy WORKS. Black people, it's time we stop demonizing mental health disorders. They are highly treatable medical conditions. Signed, an individual with a diagnosable mental health disorder who is tired of being told to quit my clinical mental health treatment and just get on my knees and pray Thanks for sharing your story, Ronke! I hope this helps more people get connected with mental health services.❤
Amen! When my anxiety and OCD went haywire and I was scared and didn't know what was going on, I prayed for a therapist to help me seek relief. 3 years later, I'm still seeing that therapist and know God picked her for me for my healing journey ❤️
This is something to pray to God for the answer. If and when you start medication, this should be done under the supervision of a doctor/mental health specialist such as once you start taking a certain dosage, gradually wean yourself off. After that, you will need to have your own mental health self care duties to help you throughout your life. God bless 🙏🏽💜
