The Amish way of life is so inspiring. Their strong work ethic and commitment to quality really stand out in how they raise their chickens. Impressive!
Grew up on the farm until I was 13 thank you for this program. It was very very good. We practiced all of these things from generation to generation and still today. Thank you.
Grew up on a farm and we grew a couple hundred chickens each year and family would come to help process the chickens. Everyone would go home with lots of chickens. Nobody used the term "organic". It was just the way farms worked in the 70s.
@@darylefleming1191 the grains were not organic .. they were chemicals treated. So were many other foods back then. For real organics, you would have to go back,, 900. Years
Me too. They always gave me the gizzard station. I was lucky once to get the fun of using the plucker... haha. Hand turned with rubber fingers, quite ingenious. We didn't use killing cones, though. Dad would just use the chopping block and then tied them up by their feet at the swingset until they were done doing what they do. Our veggies came from our garden and our meet came from our barn or our woods. People look at me funny now when I describe it. You wouldn't think we grew up in the same area today.
@@IronMike-f8i That is TOTALLY untrue! What IS true would be that a LOT of toxic metals were used on orchard crops. Like Arsenates, Lead etc. Nicotine sulfate was used a lot for a contact insecticide on vegetable. But it breaks down naturally in a day or two under Sunlight. NOBODY was spraying grain crops.
Using chemicals is a shortcut that always comes with a price. The chemicals poison the land and the people. Hard work and traditional techniques are definitely the best way to do things. I would love to experience life on an Amish farm so that I can learn these techniques
The shot of the civil war reenacters at 2:42 and the blue nail polish at 2:26 was a little strange. Not to mention the fact that the Amish do not like being filmed.
@@daveklein2826Your comment is the ignorant one. I farm in the middle of a large Amish community. My SIL left the order as a teen. Loren is absolutely right in their assessment AND furthermore, no Amish woman would be doing chores wearing jeans like the one at 0:50. These videos romanticizing Amish or Mennonite ways of life are always good for a laugh though. Noting all the ridiculous fallacies is a fun pastime especially while you’re waiting in line at the feed mill for the horse and buggy to pull away from the dock with their load of chicken feed.😂
Wish I could have chickens for eggs and meat but in city limits you can't,you once could in the depression times and before. Technically I don't know why farmers bother with commercial feed they will eat maggots off rotten meat.
Didn't see how they clean the coops or heat them in the winter. Very long video, omitting some vital practices. Too busy lecturing not busy enough with information.
My hens live in an unheated barn in Eastern Canada, they don't seem to notice the cold. They also run outside in the winter and don't seem to notice the snow . As far as cleaning coups I have tools called shovels, rakes and brooms.
I was really hoping to hear more about how the Amish do things rather than a sales job on the Amish themselves. I don’t mind the fact that you’re selling the Amish farm practices, but you repeat it so many times that it’s just hard to appreciate what you’re doing.
I hope they treat those chickens better than they do their horses and their dogs. People have some romantic idea about the Amish. But often times when it comes to animals, they are just plain cruel. Don’t be fooled. No it’s not every single one, but it’s definitely present in their community. They basically have puppy meals. They worked their horses to death. I support a lot of their lifestyle but some of it I just will not.
You can also look into the Amish and child abuse, child sexual abuse, animal abuse, & heavy unreported domestic violence among the AMISH COMMUNITY...while you're at it.

Home grown chicken eggs are thicker and flavorful! Meat? Cooking home grown chicken on the grill besides store bought, store bought lost about 30% of its mass, home grown about the same size when put on the grill!
The corners cropped cuz so fat within several weeks they can't even walk they just have to set there on their bodies that's too heavy for their feet to walk it's crazy I don't want no part in it

The Amish had achieved Herd Immunity to Covid by May 2020.

Because they most likely weren't organic

The average hen lays 200 eggs a year not 300. An out standing layer will lay 260
Watching from Philippines you having a beautiful chicken breeds sir. Good luck enjoy happy farming.

@@daveklein2826 It is an observation of the video. Amish do not wear nail polish or civil war uniforms.

@@LibbyLoo-ri8uw The whole video looks like a hodge podge of clips from other videos.
I've also heard that the Amish aren't necessarily "nice" to their animals (horses in particular).
Its true about classical music it works with the hens and with the cows. The cows give more milk too.
I really wanted to get with the Amish when I was younger! Where I really would have preferred!
ever seen a chicken chase down a mouse and swallow it hole?
Unfortunately I live in a big city when I should have lived in a state with the Amash

Yes, the Amish are one of the largest puppy mill in the country! Yes, they are also very cruel to the animals on their farms!
Yes USA ❤
Organic eggs,, pasture raised,, are only 5.oo. a dozen. Major supermarkets
$99.99 @ farmers sprouts 😊
Lol. Modern Amish buy their homegrown chicken at GFS and other wholesalers. Get real.
It was just the way farms worked in the 70s
I've raised chickens for decades. The Amish probably have mostly mongrel birds. Mixed breeds adjust to the environment and feed.
What do the Amish clean their coops with?
Shows a guy gathering the filthiest shit covered eggs I've ever seen in my life as he's talking about nest cleanliness 😂😂😂
Scripture says, you will know them how they treat their animals.

Wonder if the Amish do Organic Eggs?
People need to look to the Amish people instead of the stupid we think we’re homesteaders which most think they are

Hopefully, they believe in guns.
