I did this hike with some friends last summer during the night...amazing sunrise and we were completely alone! So if you want to avoid the crowds, thats the best to do!

That sounds way more pleasant than the way we did it😍 we will definitely do that in the future with very popular hikes.

Cool but the Grand Canyon is twice the height if that's what you're basing this on

Is the hike you would recommend that is similar difficulty that might not be as touristy?

Yeah it got us surprised aswell, it almost felt like being by the Eiffel tower, but to be fair we´ve heard that this day was fair above average. We will try to give it a another shot late late season and maybe also do a night hike to see the sunrise.

You can thank Instagram and TikTok- not as intensely viewed on social media 10 years ago. We went to Norway this summer but so glad we skipped this. Did see Stavanger- prefer Bergen though.

We have a name for people who walk to Preikestolen in flip-flops, Norwegians and visitors alike.
Idiots - that will need help and thus endanger our young volunteer rescue workers when the weather change. 🤨
Ask the locals, they will gladly show you where to get suitable hiking gear. 😉👍

Heres a tip: dont go during the tourist season, and you got the place all to yourself.

I am a local and no locals go there anymore. I think its really after corona that everything blew up with tourists. But theres other reasons too - i think its just way more accessible to people who dont like hiking that much, and therefore you have more of the people with flip flops or high heels who just want photos. The noise is so bad too - people bring drones and theres helicopter tours every hour which just was the final nail in the coffin for me. It truly is beautiful there, but as you say, its just too crowded 🥲
