Great job Ben! I added this to a GreatVines playlist, but not sure how to promote to our subscribers. Such wonderful, topical information for up and coming brands.
Jim Thompson Thank you, Jim. I know there are plenty of small brands who, because of much less tasting room traffic, are looking to enter the 3-tier channel for the first time. I hope this video will save them a lot of time and aggravation.
Thank you for this video. Great information. Can you answer a question? In terms of first meeting with distributors, how detailed should my figures be? Projections, P&L, cash flow, etc. Thank you.
Glad you liked the video, Donnie. Distributors don't care about your P&L or cash flow. They want to know that you've done your homework about the opportunities in the market and that there is already a demand for your product. Keep in mind they are not going to sell for you. Just deliver to the accounts you and your team sell to. This video may help you a lot: ruclips.net/video/w7j5VJ96UaE/видео.html They will want to know who is buying your product now, who you see as your competitors, and where you think your products will sell best. Hope this helps!
Hi Ben, Im struggling to determine if I should find a distributor or make wine from home and sell it to start. I am based in maryland working on getting my permits. Any suggestions? Thank You!
Hello, Nailah. It is not legal to make wine at home and then sell it. Now, if you open a licensed, bonded winery you can sell it there at the winery. You don't have to have a distributor at all. Here is an article I wrote about how to market a small wine brand: salisburycreative.com/small-winery-marketing-on-a-shoestring/
Hi Peter. Let me ask you a few questions first. Do you currently live in Jamaica or the US? Would you sell your wine online in Jamaica or the US? Where would you be getting the wines you want to sell? Are you planning to produce these yourself? Once I get your responses, I can offer a little more advice. Ben
Hi Liz. I am glad you found this video helpful! As far as what licenses you would need to start an online business it really depends on several different things. First of all, what state are you in? Also, from what source(s) do you see yourself obtaining the wines & spirits you want to sell? Selling wine online is an entirely different thing that selling spirits. I'm happy to point you in the right direction once I know more.
Hi Ben! I appreciate your prompt reply. I am in Louisiana but I would like to be able to sell throughout the entire US. I would like to be able to sell both organic wine and organic spirits on the site. This concept is in the beginning stages as I do not yet have any providers/distributors I have reached out to. This is a very niche concept.
@@elizabethmonteleone5508 There is already many websites selling organic wine online. This is an extremely competitive category. And if you plan to arrange to ship alcohol purchased online you have many legal and regulatory hurdles to jump. I suggest you start with your state liquor control office. atc.louisiana.gov/ Every state has its own laws so you may want to retain the services of a capable attorney as part of your research. @@salisburycreative thats really disappointing. I want to sell exactly the wines which I know myself to be good but all the distributors I‘ve found only offer wine I don‘t think are the best. Is contacting the vineyards directly an option? Otherwise I don‘t see how to build the portfolio I want to offer.

@@Hikneow Ok, great! Then, yes, you might start off by contacting the wineries directly and ask them if they have an importer now. If they do, that's good news. If they don't, tell them you want to carry their wines in your online shop and see where the conversation goes from there! Hope this is helpful. Ben

Yes, I often speak at the Ontario Craft Winery conference. Do you work for a Canadia winery?
