Still listening to this tune often but what makes it so interesting is being a stage hand in the 70's and watching Spyro Gyra performance live several times. How time flies
I'm a big fan. These guys play with a great feel for the groove. The saxophone is so lyrical with a warm sound. The arrangements are superb. This music never dates. It sounds as fresh as ever. I live in Melbourne, Australia. Spare a thought for me. The music pumping out of the PA systems in public spaces, every shop and every motor car here is a loud THUMP! THUMP! THUMP! or DOOF! DOOF! DOOF! Why can't it be this sort of music?
So smooth. Even the sax notes just melt. Nice groove from the marimba too. I first heard Spyro Gyra in 1979 when I was at a temp agency applying for jobs. Back then, it was on Muzak, but this is NOT elevator music.
The vibraphone of Dave Samuels is wonderful !. every sound coming from the band ! I´was introduced to this wonderful band since 1988. Thanks a lot Jay Beckenstein. I´m from Mexico City. Jazz-fan 100%
What a song! Love it! Thanks! #nowandTHEN #smoothjazz
Reminds me of my 1st College Winter break. My best friend & I went to Chateau D'Oex, Switzerland to ski! Listening to this tape on our Walkmans in a train going through the beautiful Alps! Glorious!!
Countless thanks for sharing your highly underrated music with us all. I been a fan since the 70's, and my in-laws heard one of my cassettes playing Old San Juan, and they leaped on the fan wagon too. 👍👍 10⭐💖
Guauuu excelente canción. Spyro Gyra mi banda favorita de Smooth Jazz, gracias Mr Jay y a sus integrantes por alegrar mi vida y la de muchos en estos tiempos de pandemia. Saludos desde mi hermoso País Perú.
people might crap on the tune because of how cheeky it is: which means its uplifting qualities are undeniable even to those who wont consider this 'real jazz' or so.
Saw Spyro Gyra in Kaanapali, Maui 1995! They were part of the Maui Music Festival. So incredible, they sound amazing live!! I'll always remember that concert!!!!!
From Buffalo, New York, United States. Recorded at Mark Studios (Clarence, New York, United States). Released in 1977. Peaked on the US Billboard Hot 100 in July 1978.
I love spyro gyra, but this song reminds me of classic episodes of The Price is Right. I can imagine Rod Roddy saying " this fabulous prize can be yours....if the price is right!!"😂
Of all the music l own on most formats Spyro Gyra has the distinction of my having the the largest collection of their albums of any group, individual or orchestra in my collection, such sweet music.
@tamikasumner7621 The emoji's were placed in agreement with your comment. The song has that tropical feel. When I hear the song, my mind would wonder to me lying on a beach chair by a pool.
And the next Manhattan transfer transform.in harminic vocal and we in Indonesia still play the song in any special events jazz..Shaker Song love it song....
So who else is here because this song (and several other Spyro Gyra songs) used to be on the Downtown Disney (now Disney Springs) playlist and played through those green speaker in the ground?
Just found this disc in a local thrift store for 2$! Got home and bummer! There was no disc inside! I will make a point to check from now on. Can't believe I didn't. I bought a stack cuz they were so cheap. I'm sure the store will let me swap it out. (I live over 25 minutes drive from there) I feel like a dork for not checking right then and there in the store. I must have gotten excited and distracted by some other stuff...anyway this music is awesome, I really like this band!
One would certainly HOPE SO!!! It seems like they take credit for it too in many posts, when you check the liner notes and they credit 'Songwriters: Allee Willis / David Lasley' without mentioning this is for the lyrics ONLY. (Perhaps these people aren't musically educated tho?) E.G. This YT post shows the actual 45 single with ALL credits listed properly AND in order too on it: ruclips.net/video/GQxP6frRdzE/видео.html Then the post 'liner notes' goes on to say this: "Lyrics by Allee Willis, David Lasley. And music by John Beckenstein* " As if 'Jay' is actually 'John', and 'music' is only an afterthought!!! LOLOL... seriously ignorant! Or just plain nasty? You decide 'cuz I can't.
spyro gyra: the musical group that holds the record (no pun intended) for the most grammy award nominations without a win. criminal.
Wonderful group. Still love the Carnaval album. Hey, any group named after a bacterium cannot be all bad.
Still listening to this tune often but what makes it so interesting is being a stage hand in the 70's and watching Spyro Gyra performance live several times. How time flies

You were fortunate. I'd listen to this band on my radio while working in a factory. I was 18.
