Skating Rabbit was on WOODLEY & VICTORY - Ron ( German or English cat ) was the owner of it , Jimmy & Eric worked there - that was the spot for T & C clothing & Jimmy Z … Bought my first board there - Hosoi Hammer Head , and then a Cab - decks lined the walls , glass counter had the wheels , trucks , stickers …

We lived in Pacoima from 58 to 63. In the summer of 60 we saw candidate John Kennedy give a campaign speech from a small wooden platform in the parking lot of Valley Plaza near the Sears store that was the anchor of the plaza.

That kind of information is surprising. Of all places John Kennedy at Pacoima. Strange to me since when I think of places important people would meet in LA it wouldn't be the valley.

And the irony is that Kennedy was safer on the mean streets of Pacoima and Oxnard then he was in Dallas, Texas. Kennedy did a speech in Oxnard, CA at a smaller Catholic Church on Rose and 101 freeway in 1960.

Skating Rabbit skate shop was on Victory and Woodley. Across the street from balboa parks east end. Cool dude ran it, I used to buy a lot of skate parts there and they always had the “Jimmy Zs” pants in stock; with the Velcro attached belt of course. Ps. I worked at the Cupid’s Hot Dogs on victory blvd all through high school. Valley Plaza... the place you were standing was the UA Theaters.
On the other side of the parking lot use to be the 99 cent Store. Within that section there were these banks which was a choice skating spot! After you get a session on the banks, you'd head to Sizzler cause there was a ledge in the parking lot that was WELL waxed for boardslides, and grinds. Tandy Leather was in there too, and Sabatino's Italian, where Sabatino would always offer you a cookie... R.I.P. Sabatino!

I was born in 1992. I’ve been living in the valley my whole life. Growing up in the mid to late 90’s I have some memories of my mom taking me to Montgomery Ward to buy things. I don’t usually go to Panorama city but just 1 month ago I was there and cruised by its crazy to see that building still up. It Literally paints a picture in my head of how It used to look like back then. One other place that comes to mind as well as a kid growing up in the late 90’s is the super market called “El Tigre” which was located in Osborne and Laurel Canyon. That building is still abandoned to this day. I pass by it once every week and just looking at it brings nostalgia. I sometimes wish I can go back to the 90’s when life was simple.

They are dieing off here as well. The one close to me I use to skateboard at in the 90s was so busy you could barely walk around inside these days its mostly empty maybe 7-8 stores open two floors the rest is boarded up. There's another one about 30 minutes away its still pretty popular cause they redid the whole place over the last 6 years but now has a bunch of stores that are closed

Was “de-virginized” at the Midnight showing of, "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," at Valley Plaza Theatre, then became a fixture there. Think it was the North Hollywood U/A theatres back then-anyway, that’s what we all used to call it. The legendary Auditory Odyssey Record store was right across the street, looking east (with your back to the theatres). Got Laurie Anderson's, "United States [Live]" 5 record set there, recorded at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Gary Numan's, "Living Ornaments," live set, along with a million other avant-garde, New Wave albums. Best time for music and movies. BTW, love your Vaporwave intros.

I was born in Van Nuys in 1974 and grew up in Woodland Hills near Platt/Hatteras. No one has ever known what I was talking about when I tell them my Dad used to take me to Horsies & Boats on the weekends. My Dad called it the 'divorced Dad's weekend spot'. It was in the parking lot South of Topanga Plaza and The Promenade. Like, behind the movie theater and The Velvet Turtle. I think nowadays it might be a car lot? Does anyone remember that little, permanent 'carnival' that was there? The best weekends were Chuck E. Cheese, Swensen's for ice cream, then 'fill your cart' at Toys 'R' Us.

About the yellow Reseda signs: I took photos of them right after they were constructed, that was in March 2021. So I believe the signs went up in early 2021.

Can't recall exact spot but in the middle of that building possibly where the candy shop or restaurant are now. The self storage place behind it was a parking lot then and you could drive in from Ohrbach's parking lot to the arcade.

My very first time viewing your channel!! I am so impressed with your presentation, your passion, personality and your "presence" shines through in the best possible way. I can relate to so many places that you show here, I think that I could write a book about it! I was living in the City of San Fernando from 1988-94. 1994 was when the northridge quake hit. I still have the magazine from The Daily News about it, and the one from the 1971 Sylmar quake as well. I was living in Porter Ranch when that one happened. I graduated from Granada Hills High School. My dad was a part of parents without partners, met one of his wives there. Your comment from 3:03-3:10, about things not going to be there anymore, is precisely what I was thinking, at age 18, in 1975 when I took a picture of one of the Porter Ranch horse statues that was at Devonshire and Tampa. I still have the picture. The Porter Ranch horses have been relocated to the Valley Relics Museum, at the Van Nuys Airport, have not been, but really want to go there. So many trends started in the valley, Vans tennis shoes, BMX bikes, girl's soccer at Petit Park in 1971, and many, many others. I just subscribed, and have to stay tuned. I can share many, many other stories as well, that I can document pictorially. Excellent work, you are a natural for it!

Sad fact about the Montgomery Ward: Bobby Chacon Jr. the son of boxer Bobby Chacon was shot and killed in the parking lot in 1991. I heard it's viewed as a "landmark", and they tried to bring them back for a while.

I grew up in Tarzana from 1978-1994 and spent a lot of time in that area (near the Builder's Emporium/Gelsons, corner of Burbank and Reseda), and I don't remember it at all. Much like the minigolf center on Topanga, it must have been closed by the early 80s because as a typical arcade-obsessed 80s kid, surely I would have remembered or at least seen it.

The character of the valley is over now. Now it's all modern mega mansion and apartment buildings that give a more "affordable" option over their westside counterparts so that you can create even more traffic on the 101 to get to your job to pay for said lifestyle. Not me. I'd take the 70s or 80s style house and the meanial life over working til my limbs fall off to support a mega mansion lifestyle.
