As a lifelong PF fan who first saw them live in 1972 (I'm 67) It THRILLS me to see young people's reactions to this number, which for me is the most emotionally moving song I've ever heard. And with love I have a question - How is it that I see so many beautiful young BLACK people suddenly turned on to Pink Floyd? What triggered this? It gives such JOY - what's going on here? And to those of you who react in tears as you listen, let me tell you that I saw their last two tours at total of seven times, live... and every time I saw them play Comfortably Numb not only did I, a grown man, shed tears... but I could look around and see hundreds of people with tears rolling down their cheeks. Welcome to the Pink Floyd family! Trust me... when YOU'RE 67 you'll STILL be playing this song!
I'm 61. Feel the same. Love to see young people explore other genres and the great old stuff that we grew up. ✌
Social media probably - first reaction videos in general, then Queen after the movie then other rock and roll music.
Lol I’m jealous! I only got to see one concert. BUT it was Dark Side of the Moon!!!!!! BEST concert Ive ever seen. I’m 65. 💜
Gilmour is the king of Emotion when it comes to guitar. So tasteful, and that tone!
David and his guitar are one entity 👏💜
Finally ! Someone who listens to the music ! You did not stop and analyze the performance, you enjoyed it. And for that alone I am a subscriber. Great work man,, keep it up !
I think in most cases RUclips requires commentary when doing "reaction" videos.
Me and my wife are PINK FLOYD die hard fanatics..... my children fell in love with them.... and my 3year granddaughter want to sing along with their songs..... aaahh another generation of lover of TRUE MUSIC....
Your world has just expanded beyond belief. Pink Floyd, not simply music, an emotional experience!
This solo is exhausting. Just when you think he has reached the peak, he climbs to another peak and then does it again. This is amazing and takes you on a journey.
Pink Floyd discovered the way how to touch everybody's soul... amazing musicians who are on way higher level than nowadays
Salute you..For not interrupting the Solo.. AND.. The..Song..
The greatest solo ever glad you enjoyed brother
Yes, do the whole Dark Side of the Moon album start to finish; without interruptions if copyright allows it. Definitely one of the greatest pieces of musical genius ever made. The longest selling Billboard Top 200 album of all time (something like 972 weeks). You’ll love it.
The PULSE performance.
:v
David Gilmour doesn't play the guitar. He tells a story with it. You could probably think of a hundred guitarists who could exceed David Gilmour in technical and shredding ability. Gilmour himself has said it was never going to be about speed. But when it comes to packing pure, raw emotion into each and every note, David Gilmour is unparalleled.
David Tilley - “He tells a story with it..” A lovely phrase, and so true. Well said.
@@BertSmithLondon Yes Mark Knopfler and David Gilmour are both guitar Gods 👍
@Drew Ezra No, we don't give a damn. Please go away.
This solo is DRAMATIC! It's not just emotional. It sounds like it had some hidden desperation.
This dude is the best reaction youtuber I've come across because he knows the holy rule, not to pause a Gilmour solo.
Yes, Dave Gilmour gets more emotion out of his guitar than many singers can even when they're singing emotional songs. Dark Side Of The Moon is always best heard in one sitting and just playing the whole thing through would be really good. Each track melds into the next, so maybe a pause after a track for your thoughts, but take it back a few seconds so you still get that flow into the next.
For Led Zeppelin - there are so many great songs ... personal favourites of mine include 'When The Levee Breaks' and 'In My Time Of Dying', but what to start with, maybe look at tracks from the first album and take it from there.
Leo Fender made the strat,David gave it life.
SRV set it on fire!
Don't forget Hendrix, Beck, SRV......
@@nevermind-he8ni Clapton also
@@mdudley52 True dat
He literally did Breathe life into it just in Time to give it a Pulse and be Comfortably Numb with it...
The greatest solo of all time ever
Finally, someone is listening with headphones instead of ear buds.
You will never see a live performance better than the masterpiece that Pink Floyd produced here.
The whole concert was just utterly mind blowing both visually and musically.
Yes, I was there.
YES! He made that guitar sing! "It was the best guitar solo I ever heard" perfect. You really ought to do Pink Floyd "High Hopes" [Live Pulse HD] David plays the steel guitar on this one & it is amazing to hear also acoustic guitar, although that is not highlight. I really think you will enjoy it.
Agreed. But also Sorrow from the same concert.
Absolutely, one of the best guitar solos ever!
I've heard this song countless times and that solo brings me to tears each time. Mr. Gilmour emotes more eloquently with his guitar that a lot of singers do with their voices. Love seeing people experience Pink Floyd and get it! Give a listen to On the Turning Away, beautiful song and killer solo.
Thank you for not interrupting the music. This classic is best heard in it's entirety, with out interruptions. This is the music that will play when the world comes to an end...
Thanks for review this classic rock song.
Feel free to visit Phil's Midwest classic car Forum & choose the car of your dreams.
This song has always resonated with me and I'm glad you are discovering this. I agree that the guitar solos are the inner, unheard scream of a person who is distanced, or made to feel distant due to no one truly listening. I've had that very issue and immersed myself in music. Comfortably Numb was an expression of the mask I put on to function as my soul screamed to be understood. Not sure if that's what Roger Waters meant when he wrote the lyrics, or if David Gilmour meant that with his solos. It's just the meaning this song spoke to me. Thanks for not pausing it for analysis....Pink Floyd deserves that respect! Bless!
The music of course is fantastic. But don't forget the light magicians of these shows. We saw them live during the Pulse tour. The togetherness of light and music magic is something I never forget in my live!
David Gilmour is a master at making you feel so many emotions at the same time, just from him playing the guitar.I was fortunate enough to have gone to many of their concerts in my life. I was even at this one. The whole audience was in awe during his solo. Even in the parking lot after the concert, everyone was still in awe from the experience of that solo. I can honestly say that if you have been to one of their concerts, it is an experience that you will never forget for as long as you live.
You’re right David Gilmour speaks a unique language with his guitar. No one else can do what Gilmour does. Try the song Hey you from the wall.
Now go back and not only listen, but, watch the performance....the visuals you get from the amazing light show and Gilmour's fingerwork add layers to this!!!
The key to watching a Pink Floyd performance, is watching the whole performance. Floyd plans out a performance to the second. They use the lights to amplify the feelings of the song. I would recommend reacting to the Pulse concert. They perform all of their most well known songs. The live performance of those songs is something to behold
David Gilmour also has a stunning voice
I know, you don’t often hear that discussed.
Rex Holes absolutely! His voice is so hauntingly beautiful!
Very underrated voice!!!
Amazing track and that solo is more than just a superb piece of playing. It's a sonic journey like no other. Mind blowing
Yes do Darkside of the moon in one sitting.
John Dorsey Absolutely! You’ll NEVER be the same! Up there with Mozart and Beethoven. A true masterpiece lives on forever! ❤️❤️❤️
Still gives me goosebumps. Amazing!
Dont get much better than this....✌💗🎵
A Gilmour solo takes you to another plane of existence...He's Ethereal!!
Glad to see more of you young'uns getting into Pink Floyd, there's hope for the world yet. Just watching the expression on your face change as the song progressed, told me everything I needed to know. Yes, he certainly knows how to make a guitar speak but there are many guitarists who are capable of that, but none do it the same way David Gilmour can. As others have said, listening to more of their music will make you really appreciate how great they are. Thanks again for the post, btw, love this version.
I still get goosebumps and i have heard it a about 100 times. awesome.
Saw this live was absolutely amazing.
My friend was part of a Band that was a tribute act to Pink Floyd. They had 9 musicians and their first set was the album the Dark Side of the Moon, played begins game to end with no breaks. They had a sad player and three female vocalists who harmonized so well together. When they played this some my friend Micheal Cutting brought it alive. Micheal is currently living in Brazil where he cut his first album, is producing one for another musician, he got his bog break playing guitar for Holy Soldier in the 90's, a Christian Hair band. But when torn into this solo it got real. We played a pretty large aVenue in Tempe by ASU. The night we were there the manager grabbed the phone, called Theo owner and said, "you missed it! Pink Floyd was in the house! You have to book them again! We played there a second time and went on to play at Alice Cooper club in Phoenix Called Cooper's Town. They were together a little over a year and I was their stage manager for the last Year of the act. It was one hell of an awesome ride! Glad your generation is discovering this great music! peace!
I would add “Sorrow” and “On the Turning Away” from Delicate Sound of Thunder, another live set.
No turnin back now....enjoy the ride that is pink floyd
That guitar have a soul, it's alive
Dark Side of the Moon. That album set the record for longest time on Billboards Top 200 for 937 weeks (roughly 18 years). When the news broke that it had finally fallen out of the Top 200 after 937 weeks, it was immediately back on the charts the very next week.
Hello Luniversed. This gig was part of the Division Bell tour in 1994. The album "Pulse" came out in 1995 as a live album recorded from the European leg. Hope this helps. Respect and love the vlogs.
Welcome to the Floyd! Being at the concert, or concerts watching the band was great everyone just really enjoying the whole experience. Listen to the album's as a whole as they tell stories. Welcome aboard! Stay safe at this uncertain time.
it´s very observant to say his guitar "speaks" ... or sings. gilmour is one of the very best because he never shows off with fast pentatonic soloing, but composes soli that are singing like a melodic voice, not a single note wasted.
He doesn't 'show off' technically as many do. At least; not in the same way.
But his guitar is not at all limited by this. Simply amazing.
I just wish this solo was less popular on YT. Out of context it just doesn't make much sense.
Its the best ever
When you listen to Floyd you listen with your eyes and ears
YOU HAVE JUST WALKED THROUGH A DOOR INTO A MUCH LARGER WORLD!! ENJOY THE JOURNEY...
EVERY FUCKING TIME THIS BAND DOES IT TO ME!!! pink floyd has to be the greatest, idc jesus christ listen to this
"In the 3th day, Leo Fender created the Stratocaster...
In the 4th one, God created David Gilmour"
To achieve this standard on guitar ....Turn your amp switch settings to .... Mind-blowing!
whole DARK SIDE OF THE MOON is a perfect idea, pause between tracks, but not between songs :-)
Some other bands from this era are: Emerson, Lake & Palmer (Oh Lucky Man), Yes (Owner of a Lonely heart), Genesis (Dancing with the Moonlit Knight), and King Crimson (In the Court of the Crimson King). This will get you started.
Out West Yes - gotta do Roundabout, too.
I wouldn't go with Owner of a Lonely Heart...I'd go with _Starship Trooper_ , _Heart of the Sunrise_ , _I've Seen All Good People_ , _And You and I_ ... their older stuff. As for EL&P, I'd go with _From the Beginning_ . Other bands to consider from around that tine (or earlier) are The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix... there are just so many to list. Definitely the golden age of music.. unlike the trash that comes out today. That being said, Pink Floyd will always be my favorite, hands down.
I'm 60 year's old and the first album I ever bought as a young man in the 70's was Dark Side of the Moon. In fact I have the album cover from Dark Side of the Moon etched over my name on my black headstone and I gave order's to my wife that nothing but Pink Floyd is to play at my wake! You are correct that you should play the whole album. Pink Floyd album's are all meant to be taken in as a whole. Try something from The Wall. Want to be different, try the song "Rock Candy" by the band Montrose. As for Led Zeppelin, try "When the Levee Break's". You do a nice job, keep it up and you will only get better.
Wish you listen to Marooned by Pink floyd. No lyrics, just guitar solo from start to finish. That song made me cry the first time. the guitar tells you a hole story. Don't now how to explain it. You should give it a try.
I think "marooned" is the only song that was awarded a Grammy , for this great band!!!
@@ejv1963 That's right.
David just recently auctioned off a bunch of his guitars for charity. That red 84, 57 fender strat reissue brought $415,000! My personal favorite
Brilliant analysis
David Gilmour is incredible!!
Luniversed, welcome to a worldwide family.
I actually saw them when they where on tour in 95 in the Oakland coliseum with 48000. They played three knights all sold out. The first concert was sold out in less than Two hours. Within 48 hours David Gilmore added two more nights. This before online ticket sails. You had to choose calling a phone number or standing in line at ticket master. I chose the later. I waited in line overnight with a friend for 9 hours. We where 10th in line. I got tickets second level vary back row for the last show. Last two nights sold out in less than three hours. It was worth every second. They played the Division Bell and Dark Side of the moon. Comfortably Numb and Run as the encore. Those seats turned out to be some of the best seats to see that show. Saw all the effects and even great sound for an outdoors stadium. I knew this would be the last time to see a show like this. I was right.
The band was named by co founder Syd Barrett. He name if as a homage to old school, black blues musicians, Pink Anderson and Floyd Council.
It's not how hard or fast you play... There is no doubt when Gilmour joined the band he became such a defining part of the sound and in a way his guitar is what instantly tells you it's a Floyd song your listening to.
There _are_ no other bands like Pink Floyd.
I love this channel. Honest, intelligent, reactions. Ty!
Not one cellphone in the audience, boy those were the days to see a concert. Also, here's a link for the full "Pink Floyd" "Dark Side Of The Moon". L.P ruclips.net/video/lojzf2F5J0w/видео.html
Yeah! Do the whole Dark Side. Dark Side of the Moon is only 42 minutes. It was originally recorded on vinyl, so the only break is when the album would be flipped from side 1 to side 2. It's between "Great Gig in the Sky" and "Money". I would NOT stop between any other songs because they all floor together so perfectly, but if you're going to pause, pause there.
Here's a link to a playlist of the full album broken into the individual tracks:

Here's what no recording - live, studio, or however well done - can transmit: Gilmour's guitar sound live is orders of magnitude better, more awesome, more stunning, more breathtaking, and more epic than what you'll ever hear from any recording. More than any guitarist I've ever heard, David's playing live has a power of epic proportions that no one else reaches. Unless you've been there, its unimaginable.
You have got to salute the show as well. The lighting, the lotus flower floating in the sky.....do you think the people got their moneys worth?
british rock at its best
Mr Gilmore is a F*ing Genius . End of Story.
Now you are a Big Boy...
Robert Craane Well put! ❤️
So much lightning equipment.
Its like they're performing on a Lamppost. 🤯
Edfou 5 is absolutely right. The first time I saw them was in1977 in the old Maduro Miami baseball stadium. I was in the U. S. Army 82nd airborne back in 1980. In the barracks the black soldiers played the music that they liked and white soldiers played a lot of Pink Floyd. They heard what we were playing. Pretty soon we were really really a band of brothers. We would sneak our tape recorders on the planes to listen before and when we jumped. If cadre or the jumpmaster had caught us they would have kicked out ass out the door without our chutes.
One of the top 5 riffs of all time.
The whole "Dark Side of the Moon album is a concept album.. It's a vibe, also known as Acid Rock.. The Album was meant to be played as one long song.. the songs all lead into one another to create one continuous song. That's why if you listen to one track at a time they end and start off very abruptly like you have ended it mid-song.. Even the end of the last track on the album ends with the same heart beats as the start of intro track so the entire album can be played on a loop..
Outstanding!
*The Dark Side of the Moon* was made to listen with one interruption. To flip the vinyl record over.
Side A is:
1) Speak To Me
2) Breathe
3) On The Run
4) Time
5) The Great Gig in the Sky
Side B is:
6) Money
7) Us and Them
8) Any Colour You Like
9) Brain Damage
10) Eclipse
Total time: around 43 minutes
To avoid a copyright strike. Do side A. React to that side. Then do another video for side B.
On the CD. There is a break between *The Great Gig in the Sky & Money.* Every other song flows into the next song.
Animals my favourite PF album (currenmtly and that could easily change) but being present for this was life-changing.
No other band like them, not even close.
Animals is mine too... So low down on the 'love' list but its impeccable... I always thought Final Cut was not given the appreciation it should have..
Congratulations. You've just been Gilmoured !!
Yes all of Darkside in one go - just like Pink Floyd intended! :-)
Yes! Gotta do DSOTM in one sitting. Great reaction btw...I laughed a bit when I saw you smile, because you don't seem to smile often...but this solo SHOULD make a person smile with the "wow" of it lol.
Dark Side of the Moon whole Album is a must🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
As someone else has mentioned, you should listen to Sorrow from the same concert. The opening bars are amazing.
Yes!
You'll love Sorrow from the same concert.
Pink Floyd is so awesome. Maybe you can do Dark Side Of The Moon, Wish You Were Here and Meddle albums. Also, Echoes live in Pompeii from 1971, parts 1 and 2 is amazing.
Loving your videos, particularly the Pink Floyd stuff. Subscribed!
Check out "Great Gig in the Sky" - but definitely the album version. The only thing you need to know is that it's about dying.
You have to start out with either DAZED AND CONFUSED or GOOD TIMES BAD TIMES! These were there earlier hits. After these, you may begin tour rabbit hole. Enjoy the ride!!!
Comfortably numb by Pink Floyd.
Dust to Dust by The Warning.
Two of my preferred songs in 2 days.
Damn, I love you... 😁
So for another great young band (like The Warning, Pink Floyd are not that young...), let me suggest you the band Motion Device with the song Thick Skin.
Thanks!
Sorrow at Pulse, OMG.
When the mirrorball opens_ holy smokes!
Just a wonderful solo. David Gilmour is not the best shredder, but get gets more emotion out per note than anyone. When the guitar wails at the end in this song always gives me goosebumps.
Dark Side of the Moon as an album, you can make a case to listen to it in two parts. Because the songs flow from one to another, there is not a break or a pause except in the middle where you would flip the record. Which I believe is between Great Gig in the Sky and Money.
Only reason why it's a suitable break between those two songs is that when you flip from Side A to Side B! LOL...
Spot on with your Gilmour thoughts. This solo always gets me. Chills & goosebumps indeed.
Terrific! Explore ALl music genres and open your art horizons. Bee Gees, ZZ Top, Marshall Tucker Band, Wild Cherry, etc. A million great sounds!
Suggestion?
Where to begin lol!
Mother, Time, Fat Old Sun from The Night to Remember concert for an often overlooked gem. Failing that there's always Run Like Hell from the P.U.L.S.E. concert which is always a crowd favorite and lets not forget The Dark Side Of The Moon... in it's entirety.
Subbed and watching from New Zealand.
Good review, mate
David Gilmour CBE.... the sound of Pink Floyd.... plays guitar on Berlin's "Pink and Velvet" too.
Wonder how many reactors catch that when the stage lights come back on (when the ball starts opening up) the lights are sycnhed the what Dave is doing on the guitar.
Shinedown Simple Man, the vocals are amazing. 🔥
you ought to do RUN LIKE HELL PULSE ...it follows comfortably numb...same concert ....it is the final song
Exactly 😁
