This is the best way to remove the struts, and how outlined in Bentley etc. I don’t like the tilt out method, and assembling the struts in the car is not great either, I service my own track cars and have them apart regularly, short cutting never good, get the right tools. Great video!
Thanks for the kind words, I completely agree! Can’t wait to make the next video on setting up the suspension. And hijack my YT channel back from my son:-)
Love the video. What did you Torque the spindle nut down to? Manual says 420Nm. Also what is the gold looking sealant you used on the spindle and splines when you did the reassemble.
Thank you, the gold looking sealant is the copper paste, I use it on my racecars when assembling such parts. Hope to also work on street cars that aren’t wrenched on that frequent:-)
I’ve got to pull my front Bilstein coils off my 996 turbo to replace (or install) the thrust washers on the top hat. When taking the top hats off does that effect the height setting of the coil or is that all set in the lower section ? Never messed with coilovers so trying to figure out if I’m going to throw the height / alignment all out of whack when doing this
What lift are you ising in the video? I d like to find one for my garage. I have scissor lift now but my back hurts am cannot get good leverage on most things. Let me know please. Hvala lepo Goran
I haven't set up the suspension yet, I will probably start with 3rd or 4th click (on the scale from 1=softest to 10=hardest for the Bilstein b16) and then try to find an optimal solution for my style of driving and intended use. I would still like the car to be comfortable, as it will mostly be pampered, but I will also set it up for more spirited driving. I'll probably make a video of how I set the car up. We will also corner-weigh the car, but the height will mostly stay as it is now- on the highest, still from Bilstein recomended setting.
Hi thank you for showing this video I just bought a 996 turbo and I thought those shocks where stock until I sow this the dealer that sold me the car had no idea as well I guess I am very lucky lol

You should be ok with the height, but I would always check the alignment when removing the struts. It won’t be off much, but still…
Do you still have them on your car have you had any problems I'm looking to get a set
Still have them on, couldn't be happier. No problems and whats most surprising- comfort is really good when set up that way!

Hi, it is also a scissor type lift, but the one that lifts on regular working height. I think the company is called Twin busch.
Is it Bilstein B14 (on the box) or B16 that you're installing?
It is the B16, I think Bilstein uses the same box for both models.
What special settings you do on the Shocks itself for the 996?
