Wow, Al Green’s original is a classic. Talking Heads cover is awesome, Annie Lennox’s cover is brilliant (and so Annie) and these wonderful folk just added another favourite cover to a great song. I can only think of one word seeing them play this live ‘sheer joy’ (well, that’s two words!)

I like the channeling of Chicago in the middle of the song.

Why does every cover band including the Talking Heads get this song wrong? The pre-chorus (‘I wanna know…’) is 5 1/2 bars long, with the lyric ‘take me to the river’ starting on the last two beats of that section as a pick up.

not wild about this rendition. It doesn't improve on the original Al Green tune, isn't as interesting as The Talking Heads version, and the musicians and vocalists aren't anything special. It sounds like change just for the sake of change. There are a lot of renditions of this song out there that are better than this one.

Good song, but it's very unsettling, not to say embarrassing, to watch some old fart trying to act young and "hip".
The two guitarists show the song the respect it deserves.
The "lead singer" with the bad dye-job and questionable fashion sense should have followed what they're doing. Instead, he is too busy trying to be 20-years-old and "with it" to be anything but a distraction.
Everyone else in the band rocks the song like they should.

While I would concur with your comments about the guitarists and that this great band rocks, I would disagree about the singer. If you check out ''You Don't Know Like I Know'', you'll see him dressed with a jacket. I'll bet the lights are hotter than hell and he stripped off the top layer. Additionally, speaking as ''an old fart'', age or how you dress have nothing to do with making good music.......I guess you will just have to wait until you reach the ''end of this spectrum'' to see it from a different vantage point. The band is great. There is an interaction amongst all of them, a joy and a sense of humour that IMHO delivers a great performance. I suspect that most of the people who were lucky enough to have seen and heard this gig live would disagree as well.

905dorfox IMHO nothing wrong with the band or the cover, in fact, I like it.

Ain`t no way you can be young & hip. You have to be old if you still believe you`re hip. Hippie days died in 1967 to some of the originators, but to me personally, I have always thought that Woodstock was the perfect end to those days. After that it was time to move up to country & paint your mailbox blue. So there.
