    Hi Mary, I've been dancing professionally now for 7 years, and I've never heard this tip before! I also have narrow heels so I'm quite excited to try this out, the shoes look beautiful afterwards! :) The only thing I wonder- as the heel grips are stuck on, do they not fall off once you start sweating in the shoe? thanks again for the info :)

      Thamks for watching. Be careful, you are so young and your bones are still soft so try not to overdo it with the pointe work. Try www.freeddirect.com or www.freedusa.com. chacott makes small sizes (japanese size 21 or 21.5) and they are narrow cut. There are two styles that may work Chacott veronese and Chacott Allonge. Good luck!

    Mary I love all your videos, so informative and professional - keep up the good work! Perhaps it would be beyond the scope of your series, but do you notice whether adult dancers who are beginning pointe work have any particular challenges, weaknesses, or tendencies when compared to young dancers who are also beginning? Or would you say the same general concerns apply to all equally....or to all un-equally (as in it's so individual that there's nothing to note in general terms)?

    • @DancewithmaryNYC
      @DancewithmaryNYC  8 лет назад

      +Rachel Schindler Thanks so much for watching and I am glad you like the channel. I would definitely say that there are different challenges for adult beginners to pointe work. I fit the adult beginners differently then the young students. Some things to look for and keep in mind for anyone working with an adult beginner: #1 The ankles and foot area are not as flexible and usually need a flexible shoe to get over, but an overly soft box keeps them from finding the correct alignment on the box; #2 The strength to weight ratio is different for an adult beginner then it is to a young student. An adult has denser muscles and bones then a 10-12 year old, so they usually need more padding and I really strongly advise adults to do more core work before starting pointe work (ex - PIlates).; #3 The adults usually need something that is supportive in the box due to point #1 and #2. Pointes #1-3 are general statements and their are always exceptions to those. #4 I always try to keep in mind that adult beginners are doing this for their own enjoyment and try to make the fitting as positive as possible.

    Is there a way that I can fix a bagging heel? I have tried all in the video, but it doesn't work. I have a disappearing heel so it bags when I go up. My feet are the same size all the way so I don't know what to do. Could you help me please?

    • @DancewithmaryNYC
      @DancewithmaryNYC  8 лет назад

      Hi there, have you tried all the things suggested in the segment? I also recommend stitching the side quarters (back part of the shoe) down. Also switching to a smaller toe pad can help too, a larger pad forces you to take a bigger size and width.

      It looks like the stretch ribbon in the video actually!

    • @DancewithmaryNYC
      @DancewithmaryNYC  7 лет назад

      AshantiPax you can stitch in the same place you normally do. The stretch may affect how you tie them, but the actual attachment to the shoe shouldn't change.

    I just got a pair of freed studio professionals but the heel keeps popping off and the elastic isn’t keeping it completely in place. It still slides down in Demi pointe ( and the vamp digs in a little on Demi pointe) what do you suggest I do? Apart from that they are PERFECT

    • @DancewithmaryNYC
      @DancewithmaryNYC  6 лет назад

      Have you tried cutting the heels out of your tights so the inside of the shoes are against your skin instead of the slippery material of your tights.

    • @emmawilding886
      @emmawilding886 6 лет назад

      Dancewithmary NYC thank you! I will try. Going to try sewing another elastic on as well to see if it holds better.

    • @DancewithmaryNYC
      @DancewithmaryNYC  6 лет назад +1

      Also the Freed Studio Professional shoes have a lower cut heel. You might be used to more fabric in the back. One other possibility is that when the shoe is hard in the shank area it takes awhile to roll through the demi pointe and that position pulls the hardest on the heel fabric. If you are allowed to used rosin you may want to put some on the inside of the heel area in the shoe. There are a few companies that sell a convenient rosin spray that can be applied directly to the fabric.

    • @emmawilding886

      Dancewithmary NYC Thank you! It seemed to be a little better today after they broke in more. I’m re sewing the elastic right now and hopefully it will hold better in my class tomorrow.

    Great video, Mary! Would you suggest I do to my daughter's pointe shoes, since she tends to drop into her pointe shoe when en pointe? You recently sent her the Freed Classic Pro 90, XXX, Maker Butterfly, and am waiting for her to receive them to try on for you.

    • @DancewithmaryNYC

      L Clancy let me know how the new shoe works. you can try the ribbon stitched under the arch that should help remind her arch to lengthen up rather then sit in the shoes.

      Sinking in the shoe usually means the shoe is too wide or too deep. Or, if it is the shank bending that also makes the foot feel like it drops and you need a harder shank.

    Hello, i have a question: when i am standing (not on pointe, only walking) where is supposed to end the sole? Mine stops in the middle of my heels, i feel they are too short/small? The fitter in my town was in a hurry and didnt even look at my feet, he was guessing and i tried only one brand( bloch). They hurt as soon as i wear them....

    • @DancewithmaryNYC
      @DancewithmaryNYC  5 лет назад +2

      Sorry you are having difficulties. Many pointe shoe brands now come with a smaller outer sole because it makes it easier to point your feet. It can be disconcerting to stand and have the outer sole hit the middle of your heel. YouI may want to try taking some mole foam and sticking it inside underneath your heel where youI feel discomfort. Try that and then if that doesn't work try some foam insoles fior shoes, cut to fit in the bottom of the shoe, use duck tape to secure it.
      About the shoes hurting, pointe work is not comfortable, but the shoes shouldn't be so painful you cannot move. You can always email me at dancewithmarynyc@gmail.com for more details. Good luck.

      @@DancewithmaryNYC hello, thank you very much for answering me! i'm relieved to know that it is a normal feature. I will try to fix the sole as you told me. Regarding my toes, it is not that bad, but i can't put toe pads, if i do, the shoe hurts my heels. i will put lamb wool instead. Thank you again very much! :)

    what ribbon was used? is it stretchy through it's entire length? would there be a different way of sewing?

    • @DancewithmaryNYC
      @DancewithmaryNYC  8 лет назад

      Thanks for watching, the ribbon in the video is Chacott stretch ribbon and you can find it by visiting www.freedusa.com or by calling 212 432 4414. If you visit NYC the store is located on 20 East 20th street. I like the Chacott stretch ribbon because it has just enough stretch and still gives support.

    • @DancewithmaryNYC
      @DancewithmaryNYC  8 лет назад

      The ribbon is stretchy all the way thru and I suggest you stitch ribbon all the way down by the insole and stitch on all sides for maximum support.
