I do intermittent fasting and it's been 2 years officially this month. I gained some weight over the holiday because of course it's the holiday...even though I was still following the fasting lifestyle. It's all about calories in vs calories out. Intermittent fasting helps but you can do it wrong by still eating the same amount of calories. Fasting doesn't only help with insulin but it should help you eat less. So what I did for a month was increase my fasting time from 14 to 16hrs. So I basically skipped breakfast. I eat lunch and have my snack within the same 1hr window for lunch...then I have dinner and fruits and that's it. I lost the weight I gained and then some.
If calories in/calories out doesn’t work, exercising is not doing anything and intermittent fasting isn’t either, I’d talk to a doctor. I’d recommend you talk to an endocrinologist. I don’t want to scare you, but I found out my thyroid had issues, bad issues, by pure chance. I had gained almost 30 pounds in less than a year before I understood that the problem wasn’t my food intake/exercise routine.

Ummm no. Cortisol is much more complicated than this. Doesn't directly increase fat gain and doesn't gain fat in the belly specifically. The caffeine thing is mostly incorrect. Hormone yy? You mean leptin and ghrelin? Insulin.. Yeah pretty much correct.
Ask a doctor! I had bad issues with my thyroid, and trust me… you’d better talk to an endocrinologist. They will recommend a dietary plan adapted for your needs, if you need it and ask for it.

It is SO HARD to break the habit of snacking.

I've started eating more satisfying meals and then I don't really feel like eating until the next main meal.
