  • Probably in early development they planned the player to enter a battle and get wounded before he turns into a Nahobino, based on the non placeholdery animations that this mode exhibits or something even bigger - all speculation. Most of the animations seem to be either placeholder or copy pasted from the Nahobino. Theres also magic casting animations although they don't seem to play, as shown.
    All of the animations can be viewed in the Motion Viewer of the debug however I thought its also worth showing this running in an actual battle.
    This was recorded in Vengeance but it shouldn't be any different in the original release of the game.
    Skills were added in post with the debug, this isn't part of this.

    Perhaps they plan to extend the intro and make him battle demons and critically injured and then aogami saves him and fuses
    Or at some point aogami separated and he had to fight only with his demons

      Honestly there are two points in the story of Vengeance where those scenarios make sense. I doubt it would be for more than one miniboss or small quest though.

      at the start
      when you come back from minato (if only for a bit)
      the end of shinjuku
      possibly a certain period after shinjuku and before or even in early taito
      last segment of the totally 100% last boss (real)

      @@jinxtheslugfromslugterra1760 I think it was ditched early for gameplay reasons over story reasons. For example, if it's for the midgame transition sequence, there's a lot of logistics questions to be answered. What happens to the stats/affinities, do you keep it from Nahobino or do they revert to a temporary static state? What about your Skills then? Nahobino-Only Skills alone might make it tricky to just handwave it with 'oh use a demon like Atsuta/Dazai does' for animation/gameplay. That also means more lines to be recorded for Sophia/Land of Shadows for what might amount to a ten minute sequence of gameplay since it'd probably be frustrating to the player to have to 'escort' the protagonist somewhere.
      The more I think about it, the more logistics issues come up, and the more I realize "Yeah they probably axed this real early on but the dummy data remains for reference points".

      The first preview trailer featured Kei (Protagonist) and Tao getting attacked by demons, so maybe it was from that.

    I think this is a holdover from the development of Base V, as there was a model for the mc using Demon Summoning Program. This makes me believe that the Nahobino was not part of the beginning of the development of SMT V and was added later on

    Always like to imagine that the MC was reading passages from "the lesser key of solomon," so the idea of him commanding demonic legions using a tome isn't far fetched. Apparently the book is supposed to be Milton's paradise lost. Very casual dude😂

    I wonder what the human battle mode was originally going to be used for.

      I know modders just overlayed his normal animations ontop of this model (including the laser hand), but being able to take from other models for animation purposes (like Atsuna's combat stance, or Yoko's Magic cast) could help with making for a more unique battle mode.
      Signature moves are just going to use the Nahobino animations, laser hand and all.

    I think this would've happened after the Quadistu encounter in Shinjuku (no spoilers)
    but you'd still need to be a nahobino in the overworld to move quickly and jump high
    That's MY theory

    Well seems like they were gonna go for human form in da'at for a while with tao then and get attacked, until a major event happens. But ye does prove they actually scrapped a lot of ideas for the games.
    Here's hoping SMT 6 takes itself properly.

    Thanks to this video, I'm completely disappointed we couldn't switch between Nahobino and Human form akin to the Digital Devil Saga duology. Same applies to Tao and Yoko if this mode was made possible.

    There was a quick thought in the back of my mind about something like this happening when Vengeance starts to properly deviate from the original story, I doubted it but I was somewhat hoping there would be at least one section where you play as a normal human in this.

    I was saying since before the game released it would be cool if we ran around and fought enemies in normal human form, but for major battles, we fused with Aogami.
    Then near the end of the game, something happens and we have to permanently fuse with him.
    Then in NG+, we can choose if we want to be human or Nahobino cosmetically.

      I mean that kind of goes against the point of being a nahobino. It's too dangerous for the protagonist to just run around the netherworld in human form. Also it would take away from aogami being your partner. How would aogami just show up whenever things get real and what would he be doing off screen.

      @@rickyhonablue236 That could tie into the endings, since for instance, I felt like a jerk telling Aogami he made my life complicated or I wanted to make a world for humanity alone, and he was like “oh, okay. Guess you just REALLY don’t want me around. I understand, young man.”
      But if it was a case where we could strengthen the human or demon side, we could make choices that either strengthen the bond with Aogami or effectively cut them.
      Then if we do cut them, maybe something happens and Aogami comes back to save us, but gets seriously wounded in the process, but would be able to fuse with us to pass on his powers, but wouldn’t be able to separate without bleeding out.

      @MalachiLper That would be terrible because it would lock you out of every ending just for that dialogue option. It would also be way to much to write that stuff in. This isn't baldur's gate 3 (if you heard about it). The game isn't about your relationship to aogami it's about how you decide the future of tokyo. Aogami says multiple times that his goal is to help the protagonist make the world that he chooses. Which means he is impartial. His goal outweighs his connection to you.
