That’s a really smart looking MK1 Golf. Someone has spent a lot of time and effort to get it to that standard. Got To to say, I’m glad they are known as Golfs in Europe! 🐰

What a car. I grew up in South Africa where those cars were produced until 2009. I have driven so many of them in so many different states of condition. That door close sound at 5:52 was priceless I can pick up what car that is just by that sound and so many memories came to mind. Congrats on the purchase. Its a real minter.
The tin-top version, yes. Production of the Golf I Cabriolet ended at the Karmann plant in Germany in April 1993. 🍺
My wife had a green one automatic. Her first new car, she loved that car. Now we each have a Tiguan, I also have a 76 super convertible waiting.
Congratulations on going into the water cooled game. I own a ‘82 Cabby myself and I love it so much. Do road trips with it every summer. Has 300 000 km on the clock (original engine) and still going strong!

Enthusiast of both air and water cooled VW's. The Sport, color concept and turbo S new beetles came with Recaro seats.

Even the water cooled VDubs have a distinctive smell to them just like the air cooled. This makes me want too go buy another cabriolet again! Nice ride to add to your collection

Nice, you are correct as I noticed that right away when i sat in it . Get one while they are cheap , with the 83/84's going to for 15-35k these cabriolets are no longer going to be 3000-6000. Thank you , send some sun :).
That’s a nice car. My wife and I had two mk1 Golf(Europe)GTi’s back in the 80s a white 1982 and black 1983. We loved them still talk about them now it’s nice to see one that’s been cared for so well all the works been done. Just enjoy it 👍🏻🇬🇧

Jason that is a clean 1st gen Cabrio. Back in '86 my brother's wife bought a Wolfsburg Cabrio. It was a dark metallic red with beautiful red and gray leather. Plus a gray convertible top. Unfortunately she can't drive stick so it had that waist full 3 speed automatic. It also had the Rabbit GTI starburst wheels that were polished and accented with the body color. It was quite a good looking car. It had a nice stereo, a/c and cruise control. 2 years earlier I bought a white 84 Rabbit GTI. It had blue interior and was fantastic but I had to be careful of speeding tickets in South Jersey, especially at the shore!

I approve of that. Early-ish water cooled VWs are pretty sweet. I have a small fleet of various air-cooled cars, but I did buy a buddies '92 16 valve GTI in Tornado Red. Spends most of the time in the garage, but when it does come out, it always generates a smile on my face while blasting down those country roads...
Nice 👍, I worked at a body shop in the late 90’s and we did all the cars from the Vw dealer across the street . I would drool on the 16 valves that would roll in as a HS kid with a 4 door baby blue rabbit 😁

Mine was the same color but an 83 GTI Vert. Only had an exhaust clip to replace after a few years of ownership and the shifter bushing to replace. Many great memories this car brings' I wish I had kept it but it's not a family car and sold it after having my daughter :(
That is one great looking Volkswagen MK1 Cabriolet ! Much preferMK1 Rabbit over a convertible Super Beetle. Mocha Latte' 1967 looks good. Combination of old school - air cooled VW's versus water cooled is a good way to expand, yet embrace Volkswagen lineage ... The hunt, acquiring, pushing around, sometimes work on them & the fun of driving these Volkswagens makes the efforts worthwhile ...Slainte' ! Cheers !

I’m more ACVWs than water cooled. But that is a nice rabbit. Worked on them at a dealership early 80s-90s. Fun to drive for sure.

Seems like a pretty solid Mk1. My favorite Golf is the Mk3's despite how heavy they are. A friend had a VR6 that was quick-ish.

Yes , the sketchy trailer is now his . I had a blowout on my new one on the way home from NH . No spare 🤦♂️🤦♂️. Drove it on 3 to the 1st exit , swapped car to rear 1st and swapped the tire to the back and drive to the closest tire shop .

This rims are typically 80's aftermarket rims. The manufacturer
is BBS, a known company. Also on ole BMW had this rim style
often seen.
Matt did mention BBS made them for that company . I have BBS rims on my tundra and Sequoia 👍

Golf Jason, It's called a Golf.. And its a very nice one too. Had couple of those over the yrs. Always left them stock, They did better at the vw shows like Tatton Park here in uk.. Take care till next video.

@@5150mxVW nope...the kit is great. We had then as well. I mean the big square reflectors on the wings and back panels. I think it might be a US regulation....didn't come out in Germany like that.😉
@@jeremyjames1972 ohhhh , I missed the " reflector " , I just googled a pic ...yes , kinda like the 68 and 69 Karmann Ghia worse the 70/71 reflectors . I talked my buddy and he says he sells those reflectors to Europe all the time ! We always want we don't have haha

If that is truly a 93 it was factory Digifant. I am pretty sure last year for CIS was 1987. I have a 93 and an 87. In my opinion the 87 is a little quicker but I am a little CIS biased, it was an awesome FI system.
Last year for K-Jetronic in the N. American Cabriolets was the 1989 model year. 🍺

hi Tim , 93 was the last year in the States ...came out to be about 7k ...a little on the high end per say , but a well sorted car and nice driver . Also these are going up in value and appreciation due to the 83/84 GTI's skyrocketing in price . This is essentially the same car with a drop top and more mellow tranny .

I had one last year a ragtop it would start and shut off put in crank sensor // 3 coil never had it running had new top , had CPU sent out fix it and never would start after that// sold it for junk //air cool rear V.W. MOTOR ANY TIME OVER THAT JUNK //LOL

just another car i need to garage , I was probably thinking where is this one going ? It was basically a 7k deal , he owed 1k on the 67 , 500 for the trailer , 500 for the new BRMS.....did I steal it , no , but it helped him out and I've got another driver👍
