when will we be able to contact ships remotely to open the hanger doors though....ironclad, carrack and anything that can carry a vehicle needs this ability
Yea kinda a shame especially since they even said the mk ii wasn’t meant as a replacement for the mk i. Kinda feels like it should’ve been an upgrade pass for the mk i at this point
Honestly I hope they finish the BMM 1st since it's a ship that's already had work done and really does need finishing before a new manufacturer with ships not worked on In my opinion.
@@matthewsmith7947 Yeah, I forgot about that one TBH. It sounded like it was well past the 50% mark and so it might have a decent turn around time, but the issue was the lead of the ship left and there wasn't anyone else capable at the time of really replacing them to my understanding.
I was on the fence when I got my Hornet MK1 ghost years ago, but I never ended up melting it and now it's kind of cool having a mk1 hornet, makes me feel special

IIRC, you should be able to buy an upgrade CCU still. Theres one for the Cutty Red > F7C Ghost MKI thats 5 dollars, so all you'll need to do is work your way towards getting a Cutlass Red and you can upgrade it. Those CCUs last until used, so the ship will leave the store but youll still have access to the CCU. Just go to the RSI pledge store, click Upgrades. Above your game package, there should be an option called "all ships", and if you select that you can search Cutlass Red. Then on the right search the Ghost Hornet. And you can buy the upgrade CCU, even if you dont own the Cutlass. If you want a Hornet other than the Ghost, I advise selecting a different ship than the Cutlass Red that gets you close enough to the value that hornet (for example if you want the Hornet Tracker, you should pick the Razor on the left to keep the Upgrade CCU just 5$). Do keep in mind that they do plan on making a MKII variant of each exist MKI, so we will see a MKII Ghost, MKII Tracker, MKII Super etc, it just wont be until after 4.0 likely.

@@rooster1012 Yeah, my own back of the napkin measurements led me to the 2000 scu neighborhood. And though it's smaller for the assault, it still looks pretty sizeable. 2000 scu might be enough to jam a prospector AND expanse in there.

I consider the Ironclad the Hull C killer, ok that it has less cargo but the versatility and the possibility of landing while loaded, to me, is more impactful.
Whether it'll end up working like that, the ironclad really manages to inspire dreams of a smaller mobile base of operations. Kinda like the liberator which, I assume, might work better in that role, but I've never been a fan of the exterior landing pads on ships (kraken kinda makes it work for me somehow though), so the ironclad looks great to me.
I did some napkin math, and my speculations are that the Ironclad will have, at minimum, 1536 SCU of cargo (32x12x4) which puts this on a whole tier we really hadn't seen, just like they said. More than twice a Herc C2. Although I kinda forsee the Herc series getting a tweak... Maybe internal redesigns so that it doesn't slope so much at the ceiling to allow more cargo. I also think that living area has some potential tweaks coming, I think there's wasted space there too.
I understand the reasoning for sharing the command capsule between the caterpillar and ironclad but I feel like it would have been amazing that the tractor beam/cargo bridge could have been the real ship bridge.
Why is the usage case of this Command Module, (emergency escape pod) so much more limited than the Cat, (meant to be detached to use as a snub/move cargo/attach to a different Cat body)?
I would be a huge fan of the idea of 'retiring' old ships from the pledge store and only making them earnable in game via purchasing them after you've gained rep with someone, or even the idea of a 'used ship market' where you can buy 'used' versions of an older ship from an NPC that isn't sold anymore but it has some battle damage and component wear that you need to fix up. Like a used car. The idea of sunsetting stuff and then saying 'oh look you can have a cool thing that no one else can get now if you buy this' is pretty shitty. If they have plans to make stuff earnable in game, we need to be told when announcements like this happen. Otherwise it just leaves the community guessing and people will automatically jump to worst case scenario...which isn't always wrong when CIG and marketing/ship sales are involved.
When the C2 was released, a server I joined had a group of people using a C2 as mini carrier, stocking the hanger with snub fighters, and attacking people outside of Grimhex. So yes, the Ironclad being used as a carrier would not at all surprise me, especially as the Fury seems to be custom made for it, taking up the same amount of space a Nova tank does, and the Ironclad is confirmed to be able to comfortably fit 4 Novas.
Ironclad freighter sure looks like a Drake ship, and I love it. One of my favorite ships currently is the Caterpillar, I'm excited to see this in action someday!
What is missing is a ship in the mid size area that I could load a Storm, hover bike and or cyclone/Nursa in at the same time to support single player or small team ground ops gameplay without going to a large ship like the C2 class or now the ironclad
I like the idea of event ships that you can only get from the event, just wish they didn't do it with ships that were previously buyable or "earnable" like the lightning.
I've got to say, I really like the Ironclad's design. Especially the retractable roof. I hope CIG will be implementing more interesting ship models like this.
I like the Ironclad variant concept. The base is also cool, but I won't need one. I like that they mentioned the building of these speeding along the Kraken's eventual birth into the 'Verse. I also like that its command module should eventually work, as should the module for the Cat. A lot of Drake assets in the forge! Great stuff, Bored! Be well, Citizens! o7
It was good to see John Crew comment on spectrum that they still plan on the Caterpillar modules. Seeing the Ironclad you had to wonder if it was on the backburner. The Hornet retirement before release and before any of the MK 2 variants are available seems premature. It leaves a big hole in the ship line up available in game. Many of the retired ships were still lacking their key functionality.
Regarding the sunset of the F7C Mk1, I think CIG marketing has dine a great job: first, the made many players want the F7C Mk2 and now they also found a way to make another portion of the players want to buy the Mk1. Maybe they´re willing to sacrifice one classic ship by taking it out of the store for short term sales boost
I forgot how long Squadron 42 is supposed to take place before the PU but maybe CIG could say that a MK1 belonged to a relative and we inherit it. I was wondering while watching the Ironclad video if CIG could add access tubes (like the Jefferies Tubes in Star Trek) to bigger ships, Carrack and Catterpillar for example. A place to hide or some minimal general service gameplay for instance but a way to add Mercury Star Runner style access ways to some of the other ships. The decks might not be big enough to run them through the whole ship.
Viva la pirates! I see the Ironclad flying into an area and scooping up a disabled ship. Then jump out with the original owners exploring the option of their insides being outside. Or just as likely, chucking large cargo containers into that open top from a Hull series that is for some unknown reason abandoned.
I love the idea of retiring older models of ships. It makes the universe feel more realistic that there are vintage ships that you can't just find at the dealer whenever you want.
The Ironclad seems like an interesting ship. Not for me, but I am kinda looking forward to seeing one of those land and unload whatever it has loaded :D
The Ironclad is a mobile garage. Interesting to see CiG's strategy of generating interest on a ship they will be 'retiring' (think they've changed the SQ42 model) Liking the Invictus event tho.
My concerns are, they put the kraken over the Hull E insinuating that it's going to hold more. The Hull E holds 98,000 plus boxes. was the king of cargo hauling?
CIG can say this is a cargo progression ship but what I’m seeing is a progression path for Pirate groups. This ship gives them something to work up to as a group and I look forward to seeing this beast flying towards a disabled ship preparing to take over as the unlucky crew stopped by them prep for their breach.
I got a need, a need for the Ironclad. Now they just need to make it and the Catterpiller attach semi-perminantly to the Kraken as a sort of makeshift Flotilla.
I just found a gold ticket in my inventory from the F8C event. I love that ship, shame I missed the buy dates. Anyways, the Drake flatterpillar (Ironclad) I can see being useful for Orgs but less so in solo gameplay.
I hope they do allow it to have hanger functions, make it a more direct challenger to the Liberator. Not sure how I feel about the MK1 being removed already, was hoping this way of doing things wouldn't start until we were off the AUEC system and all the ships needed were done and ready.
I would've thought something in the 150-250 SCU range would've been good from Drake since they really don't have any cargo haulers between the Cutlass Black and the Caterpillar and that's a BIG jump. Drake doesn't really have any medium general-purpose ships after the Cutlass Black.
As long as they keep their word and keep updating them for bug fixes and paints, I think it's actually kind of cool that they're soft-retiring ships like this. It gives the game a tangible sense of history, right? I think stuff like "yeah there really was a mark 1, I even have one in my hangar, check it out" make for pretty cool mmo moments.
For a Drake ship, the Ironclad is mighty purty and because it's Drake that's saying something. Still love the functionality it brings. It has me questioning whether I'll melt my hull series
This really makes me wish we had access to the OG Origin 325A. That ship looked like a boss and now its rough edges are replaced by a more bubbly look and wine glasses! >:c
I'm actually thinking about getting a Fatterpillar, I still have space for a medium multi-crew cargo ship in my fleet. I don't like the Crusader ships, the Caterpillar doesn't cut it for me (close call though) and the Hull series aren't my thing either. Actually hoping for a bigger brother of the RAFT tbh
I like the ironclad. It makes sense as a freighter. I hope it will fulfill the “last mile” role from station to ground and around a system really well.
I really like the Ironclad. With that shape and the Drake style details it might have jumped straight out of some of my favorite darker scifi movies and seems to have most of the awkwardness ironed out that the Cats modules produce. I am really tempted to aim for it, even more for the assault version. But i fear that given the most recent larger ships and that it seems to be at roughly twice the cargo hold size of a Caterpillar it will probably be around the Hercules price range at least. I would be surprised if even the concept came under 500$.
Ought to have called it the operations deck, so you'd have the command module and the ops deck, command and ops, and their separation would both make sense and not cause any confusion in the heat of the moment.
The Ironclad is really cool looking. I suspect a lot of my Cat and Liberator owning friends will be upgrading on Saturday. Cool that the Mk1 will be more of the "classic car" and the mk2 will be the modern one.
Absolutely love the look of the Ironclad. I'll end up just getting it in-game I guess because the pricing has climbed too much for me to justify supporting. Looking forward to seeing more utilitarian designs flying around.
Ironclad looks like it would pair really well with a Arrastra. So hoping it will work out that way, just rip those boxes of the back of the Arrastra and load and go.
Love how they won’t finish the liberator which is exactly the same concept just a bit smaller, but will add a whole new 5+ crew ship to Q4 2025 delivery schedule
So hear me out.. all drake industrial ships need to have the same commend pod that doubles as escape pod so that it can be interchangeable with other industrial drake ships. For example 2 people in different industrial drake ships are trading or helping each other transport materials and one has a empty ship he is bringing to the person in the full ship, then they both can detach and swap ships so the one can go and refill the empty ship and the other can sell or transport the goods. Also would be good to attach with caterpillar or maybe even a future drake mining ship but the docking system would need to be working.
pretty much what i was expecting it will be interesting to see what weapons it has, all the turrets are on the top and it has some guns in the front i think
I'd love to hear your thoughts on the piracy potential of the Drake Ironclad? How dope would it be if it had a huge tractor beam that could pull in ships into it's cargo bay and then it jumps away while the crew breaks in/ salvages it with hand tools.
Yeah, watched the ISC yesterday and saw this and was screamin at the screen "SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!!!" I REALLY hope I can fit a Vulture in it... And a NURSA. If I can do that, I would be soooooo happy lol
I think it is neat that CIG is retiring sales of older ships. It would be neat if one day they have a used ship sales planet or something, and it is all player supplied.
CIG: designs a ship with any interior cargo space
Players: Thats a pocket carrier!
Yup
when will we be able to contact ships remotely to open the hanger doors though....ironclad, carrack and anything that can carry a vehicle needs this ability
CIG: 4 tanks fit in th....
Players: yeah yeah yeah, how many Furies can I cram in it?
@@idemus168 Or how many Mirai pulse and x1's can I cram in side and make a hornets nest.

For a Drake ship, the Ironclad is mighty purty and because it's Drake that's saying something. Still love the functionality it brings. It has me questioning whether I'll melt my hull series
Ironclad seems like it could also be another fps map for arena commander.
Ironclad Assault looks ace. Org's pledged for one, can't wait to use it fully crewed! :D
I like the ironclad. It makes sense as a freighter. I hope it will fulfill the “last mile” role from station to ground and around a system really well.
I'm personally very excited about the Ironclad, I was looking forward Perseus but I'm now considering this instead. I am a fan of drake!
Drake likes to build the heaviest armored and armed "cargo" ships ever.
And I love it.
The thrill of piloting a ship in Star Citizen is unmatched.
Ironclad looks amazing. I noticed the C2 was left out of the list of cargo ships lol.
Very intresting with the ironclad especially the military ground assault, but yep can see it being used as a mini carrier
I wanted to upgrade my Liberator but it's not available on the list to choose.
Sad to see the MK1 series go. It was my original pledge back in 2014
The Ironclad reminds me of the Eve Online Charon. The Caldari Freighter
Any prices mentioned? Maybe $500 for the main version and $575 for the assault variant?
So now I wonder if you could destroy just the command module, attach your own and fly off with cargo section?
I honestly kinda think that making some older ships into rarer "classics" that must be earned is a really cool idea
I really like the changes to the Hornet mark 1, I believe it's the first step of cig slowly move away from the pledge store.
This really looks like a pirate carrier. I can also see it being used as templates for garages or bases
I think it is neat that CIG is retiring sales of older ships. It would be neat if one day they have a used ship sales planet or something, and it is all player supplied.
