I appreciate your clear, fact based, and well presented summary. This helped me make a purchase decision, and I look forward to getting this knife in my hands!
This is a sexy blade! I dig Tanto blades, and SOG does beautiful US-style tantos. The size comparison is most helpful, it gives me a quite tangible understanding of how big it is (I have a benchmade north fork). Great review!
I've carried one of these for three years now. The pocket clip didn't hold up and has broken. I carry it in my pocket anyway. (Make sure it's by itself with no change) Quarters especially, they will jam the blade from opening. I had call a couple months back to use this knife in defense of three jerks who wanted my car. I tried to stab all three of them, but I had to get the first guy twice cuz he wouldn't quit hitting me and my nose was broken. They were leaking pretty good and the linen micarta handle was easy to hold with blood on it. I highly recommend.
The knife looks good, agreed that clip is horrendous LOL. Recurve blades are super high performance, well worth the little bit of extra attention paid during sharpening.
so i finally picked up this knife it's soo beautiful but is it just me or is the detent stiff as heck? it's really hard to use the thumb studs it's sooo stiff lol
Don't think assisted needs to be a thing but am ok with it. Like blade, micarta, steel, but the pocket clip is deal breaker. I actually prefer a little to stick above the pocket so being below the hem is too low. Branding doesn't heip.
Amazon just delivered a SOG Kiku Assist on the strength of this review. Let me say, this knife is virtually unopenable. Only with two hands and significant effort. Pushing with both my thumb and forefinger as hard as I can on the knife tabs yields no movement. I guess they afford quality control for reviewer samples where virtually none is given for inventory knives. Apparently.
I bought mine from SOG directly. I've yet to have an issue with it, or any modern SOG. I'm sorry you got a a bad one, contact SOG and let their customer service make it right.
@@ATherapeuticEdge where can I find that model? I was positive I would run into a version/clone or some sort from every Chinese made knive. I know SOG is from Taiwan. What is the model name of the OG kiku?
@@ATherapeuticEdge check out DocP's knife video on the Kubey Ku003 2017-2018 model he has like two videos on it, i'm not sure if youtube or your page allows links to post and you can see it is very eerily identical to this sog knife. Let me know your thoughts on it! I don't own one the (kubeyku version but been watching for one on ebay or amazon or elsewhere for a long time.)
I think the overall design looks great . But personally I hate it because of the assist and the pocket clip sticking up so high. I get the assist though non knife people love it and it sells. Everyone at my work think assisted knives are awesome.
Why do guys hate assisted and autos? I don't understand why they complain about closing with one hand. I preffer assisted and autos. I have always been able to close them all one handed just as fast as any other lock. To me it's the same argument of striker fire vs hammer fired DA/SA pistols.
The fact SOG seems to be slowly turning things around and designing/producing quality knives again makes me happy.

beautiful blade👻
Wow their micarta looks amazing! Thanks Peter have a good day!
I had an unassisted Kiku for a while! Just too large for me to EDC. The micarta does look terrific!! Thanks for the look Peter!
Just picked one up, and love it. Absolutely solid knife!Looks like there a few confused folks, as the Kiku blade is a Japanese design.
Glad you like it.. many knives have come and gone since this video but the Kiku Assisted remains in my collection and in regular rotation.

Good day for you lol got to stab few times
Glad you’re still here to tell the tale.

Just got one today on the strength of this review. Knife assist? What a joke. This is not a one hand open knife, it’s two hands. Sending it back.
I wish it was a manual buttonlock, and not assisted. Looks cool
nice
I like both knives but the taller blade of the other one is more my taste.

This is very identical to the Kubey Ku003 2017-2018 model, except i.m.o the kubey ku has a more beautiful handle wit the scale grooves
The OG Kiku is even older than that.

Sog has been making various versions of the Kiku for a looong time. If Kubey makes a similar model I'd grab it. Kubey does a great job

While I appreciate the thought, I'm happy on this platform. I won't be adding others anytime soon.

Your opinion, this SOG kiku 3.5 vs SOG kiku XR, which knife you think it's a better buy for daily Carry?
I prefer the XR model
