In my family of origin there is no room for ANY dissenting viewpoint, and NO room for women (except literally pregnant and in the home supporting her superior husband), nor anyone of color, no LGBTQ, no one allowed but Christians...so much so that I chose to leave the family. @@MossyMozart We don't have "many" parties that are formally recognized parties. As you know, we have a duopoly: the Democrats and Republicans. We ought to have six or seven parties that allow as many candidates to appear on the ticket. This way, voters have real choice--not just two, each of which often is a compromise of sorts. If you don't know what ranked choice voting is, do a search right here on youtube. It's a very interesting idea, and one that Maine is already practicing. It has its critics, but I say we try something to replace what limits our choices at the ballot box.
If you want a functional multi-party country, the Electoral College must go. The functioning that institution insures that you will reach a two-party system even starting with multiple parties.

@@MossyMozart I haven't come to a clear conclusion yet. Each has their own problem with deadlock situations; and for nerds like myself, the details can be quite interesting. I saw a sample video from The Great Courses (not to shill for them) discussing this and was tempted to buy the course. Maybe I need to do that anyway. I've even tinkered with a program to study cases in which certain types can have cycles (A > B, B > C, C > A, no winner). But, there are ways to deal with these things, and ranked choice voting will always be superior to our plurality voting system.
BTW, I hope everyone knows about the various programs pushing for ranked choice voting so that we can have a system that provides a _fair vote_ and will _represent us._

I think it just takes a majority in the House. A Republican in NC was shown to have benefited from election fraud (in 2018 I believe), and they refused to seat him, so it can be done. A new election was held and the majority still voted for the Republican candidate (not him this time).

Do away with congressional districts and award Representatives to a state in proportion to the people that vote for a party. Unions can be a powerful tool, look at the militant unions in Greece when the Golden Dawn (Nazi party in Greece) tried to take power about a decade ago. Add to that the separation of powers between the states and federal authorities which are not clear which makes you wonder if the United States is indeed one nation....under God or otherwise. We ought to have six or seven parties that allow as many candidates to appear on the ticket. This way, voters have real choice--not just two, each of which often is a compromise of sorts.
If you don't know what ranked choice voting is, do a search right here on youtube. It's a very interesting idea, and one that Maine is already practicing. It has its critics, but I say we try something to replace what limits our choices at the ballot box.
If you want a functional multi-party country, the Electoral College must go. The functioning that institution insures that you will reach a two-party system even starting with multiple parties.

I got a message to turn on the TV on January 6th. The last time was on a September 11th. Perhaps people are aware just how close we came to having mass assassination in the capitol. I learned recently that some 30,000 Republicans chose to leave president blank in GA, but voted down-ballot, far more than the 11000+ votes Trump needed to win the state. Miracles can happen.

@@MossyMozart I haven't come to a clear conclusion yet. Each has their own problem with deadlock situations; and for nerds like myself, the details can be quite interesting. I saw a sample video from The Great Courses (not to shill for them) discussing this and was tempted to buy the course. Maybe I need to do that anyway. I've even tinkered with a program to study cases in which certain types can have cycles (A > B, B > C, C > A, no winner). But, there are ways to deal with these things, and ranked choice voting will always be superior to our plurality voting system.
BTW, I hope everyone knows about the various programs pushing for ranked choice voting so that we can have a system that provides a _fair vote_ and will _represent us._

I think it just takes a majority in the House. A Republican in NC was shown to have benefited from election fraud (in 2018 I believe), and they refused to seat him, so it can be done. A new election was held and the majority still voted for the Republican candidate (not him this time).

This is true. We need to change our political system from the ground up or we are headed to a one party state. No choice, no freedom. Voters need more of a voice and more of a choice. Do away with congressional districts and award Representatives to a state in proportion to the people that vote for a party. This not only makes representation ideologically proportional but opens up the door to third parties gaining legitimacy in our election systems.
