    That's some vintage dungeon crawling there, like the game it's based on. No frills, barely enough plot to have an end goal, just basic exploration and monster slaying and phat lewt. Kinda refreshing.

      Considering that every modern RPG and JRPG owes a humonguous debt to Wizardry (and Ultima) people with an interest in gaming would do well to bone up on the genre's history.

    • @anonimoalfin
      @anonimoalfin 2 месяца назад +12

      @@krakelwok well said! even the ancient Shining Force series from SEGA were directly influenced by Wizardry (and D&D ofc). Ah, so nostalgic! Such a pity that many gorgeous games like Oubliette, Demise, and Arkania are nearly totally forgotten now.

  • @anonimoalfin

    [ 5:21 ] I love how they made the little subtitles explaining now universally known terms as "party", or the spells being used. Such a nice touch and so nostalgic to see. Back in the day all this was very niche and underground, and not everyone was into Wizardry, RPGs and Fantasy, which was beautiful then.

    • @gurvmlk
      @gurvmlk 2 месяца назад +12

      It's especially a nice touch with the spells, for helping ensure that people watching understand what's going on without having needed to play the games. Especially since the spells in Wizardry have such peculiar names, it wouldn't have been enough to just have the characters chant the spell names for them to make any sense.

    • @MidnightBlackandVictoria

      I was......ALL the way back on the Commadore PC. Man they had some awesome RPGs back then, many of which were hard to get and underground, but some were even more deep than games of today. And Wizardry was one of the best of them. I remember having all 3, where you could import your party from 1 to the next to the next. And the insane difficulty made them feel all the more rewarding.

      Wizardry has always remained relevant in JP.
      I mean: the legendary story of the one game that help make SquareEnix the juggernaut that they are today is Wizardry after all, cited as direct inspirations for both Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy.
      And we've had alot of first-person dungeon crawlers that remained Japan-only until recent years; Etrian Odyssey, Elminage, Dark Spire, Class of Heroes, 7th Dragon, Stranger of Sword Story, Demon Gaze, Unchained Blades, etc; while the West are leaning more towards real-time GRAPHICS

      It is a great detail though, having the ninja frequently decapitate his opponents. It may just seem like him being a proficient killer to some people, but it's a great way for the animation to stay true to the game. Even if he's using a sword, instead of his bare hands.
