What an absolute gem Smarthistory is, thank you for helping not only me but my dad learn so much about art history, these videos have really helped us bond and learn over this past month in particular! We were just talking about how anyone could be standing there in the museum gazing at this painting but never understand it the way that Smarthistory leads you to!
This one has me a little fired up! Without getting into detail, I am... reminded of my womanhood today and this is some more of that inspiration I've been looking for - I can do all things if I'm willing. It's one thing to have seven children, it's entirely another to lose six and keep going. To have no formal training and keep going. To live in world that belittles your very existence and keep going. I'm amazed. Beyond the pyramid mentioned, the composition forms a rainbow which seems appropriate: diversity and hope. I love that.

You made our day! Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. And please say hi to your Dad for us.
So interesting. I want to learn more about Lily Spencer. Thank you for the inspiration.
Mad respect for this woman - she really worked for her pieces. Great video as always Smarthistory!
What a beautiful explanation of this work.
Thank you for introducing me to an artist I didn't know. I love your commentary and observations.

We could certainly use more of this kind of expression in today's society.
Its always nice to discover new artists.
