Young & Agile Dirk Nowitzki

Was searching for a compilation of Dirk's transition baskets, dribble pull ups & crossovers to no avail, so I decided to create a short montage myself. Most clips are from 2005 & prior. The man was definitely not always the unathletic mummy many NBA fans have grown accustomed to seeing over recent years. Dude could move back in his athletic prime and had the handles of a wing. Surely his case for most versatile offensive big in league history is a strong one.

For 11 straight years in the NBA, from the 2000-01 season to the 2010-11 season, the Mavs never missed the playoffs or fell behind the 50-win mark. The Mavs underwent numerous roster changes within that time period, with Dirk being the only constant amid all those changes. Take note also that around this time, the Western Conference was a bloodbath where almost every team had a HOF caliber guy on their roster and where some .500 teams didn't even make the playoffs. Shows you how phenomenal Dirk was during his prime.

Dirk was originally a faceup player. Me and my friends marveled at how he can dribble the ball full court. This was during the early 2000’s era. Big men rarely dribble the ball down the court. The most I have seen done it was Shaq in the 90’s. Tim Duncan Kevin Garnett, and Rasheed Wallace did it but the dribbling looked akward. When Dirk did it, it looked like a guard was handling the ball.

He has even better handles and athleticism than Dirk had...I'd like to see him get a bit stronger and then get into the gym with Dirk and learn from his post game early in his career. disrepectful. They dontnplayblike each other at all. And Dirk was much more coordinated and a way better offensive player.

Luka reminds me a lot of the young Dirk b/c he can do a lot of Dirk's game even 4" shorter.
