Was searching for a compilation of Dirk's transition baskets, dribble pull ups & crossovers to no avail, so I decided to create a short montage myself. Most clips are from 2005 & prior. The man was definitely not always the unathletic mummy many NBA fans have grown accustomed to seeing over recent years. Dude could move back in his athletic prime and had the handles of a wing. Surely his case for most versatile offensive big in league history is a strong one. Спорт
This guy could dribble, run and dunk. Alarming how easily people forget that. Great video though
Maybe because people remember him most during his 2011 title run. That’s when he’s already slow and un-athletic.
In the end they all 'fade away'
Dude everyone in nba does that😂😂😂
Cuz he played for the Mavs. No one pays attention to fucking Dallas. Where the fuck even is Dallas? I bet my whole ass Dallas isn't a real thing
i hate when people act like Dirk was always slow and unathletic.
Agreed, just wanted to point out that people dont understand the Dirk was the first pure shooter at 7 feet who moved like a guard.
yup, they dont know man!
They are young ones, they don’t know, dirk is an absolute beast!
that slow and unathletic 7 foot guy,is just gives Dallas its first ever NBA title in 2011.so stfu for all the haters.
@Rap Lawyer had nothing to do with him being white but okay. Would anyone say Jason Williams was slow and unathletic? What about porzingus? No. Stop that shit.
People ask all the time why Durant was compared to Dirk back in 2007 before the draft, this is why...
It’s literally white KD with little less bounce
@@whywhy3289 Wrong way around. KD is a black Dirk with less loyalty or durability.
@@page8301 dang near less bounce too lol kd can’t jump for sh**
@@ENikolaevbruh you gotta be retarded. KD can jump about twice as high as Dirk, especially before his injury. He was a freak athlete for a 7 footer
i really enjoyed that 2001-2006 ish period when the western conference was dominated by PFs....from aging Malone to Duncan, KG, Dirk, Rasheed, CWebb...those were some good games to watch.
Ive been watchin dirk since 2001. Its crazy how so many people today think dirk was always so slow and immobile. He used to bring the ball up court, coast to coast all the time
What was his vert back then?
@@ashmyr_bonbon4521 i dont know, but it was always pretty solid...he always jumped real high on his jump shots
@@ashmyr_bonbon4521 his vert?! anything above few inches will be enough at 7feet…
Thanks for this. I'm so sick of these young ass nba fans who never even knew who Dirk was before 2011.
+jproxursoxoff Yep this was really needed. Especially considering how people still think Dirk was a choke artist until 2011 when in reality his playoff numbers are historically great and just that in 2011 his teammates, especially Jason Terry, finally all stepped up.
grateful for doc.he's using his final timeout to give respect to dirk.and from the start of this video,he is explaining how great dirk nowitzki was.
Amen
Wow, thanks for that retrospective. Dirk used to create off the dribble and dunk a lot. I didn't realize how much he'd slowed down in the twilight of his career. And don't forget, Dirk used to lead the team in steals too.
It is amazing to watch him then and now, he really was an outstanding athlete. Good to be reminded of that when watching his older self nowadays. It probably took an incredible amount of work and dedication to remodel the playing style according to changing physical ability, yet consistently remain a scoring threat throughout.
oh yeah
Whenever someone says that Dirk can’t ever survive today’s NBA, I show them this clip.
Dirk would actually be better. There is no more low-post monsters like Chris Webber and Tim Duncan. This means Dirk would not need to put up weight and lose part of his speed.
Dirk would eat any defender alive
Even on his last year he still needed to be doubled in the block...
Are you kidding(to the other people you were interacting with)? He’d absolutely THRIVE!
@@chingshunyung8796 Exactly!
For 11 straight years in the NBA, from the 2000-01 season to the 2010-11 season, the Mavs never missed the playoffs or fell behind the 50-win mark. The Mavs underwent numerous roster changes within that time period, with Dirk being the only constant amid all those changes. Take note also that around this time, the Western Conference was a bloodbath where almost every team had a HOF caliber guy on their roster and where some .500 teams didn't even make the playoffs. Shows you how phenomenal Dirk was during his prime.
Best power forward of all time!
Yeah ... No
2nd Best Yeah
He is the reason I actually started watching NBA . His game is entertaining. He can do anything and everything. Fade away jumpers are like unstoppable arrows . Dirk is real goat who changed whole NBA. Big man shooting crazy shots .
changed basketball forever. his jumper was WET. and I didn't realize he had some handles and slashing ability when he was younger. great mix.....legend!!!
Dirk was so quick and unguardable in his younger years....amazing Player.
He truly is the Prototype for every modern PF.
30 + 11 = 41
Splash Father confirmed
steph and klay.
Lol
Underrated Comment
Deserves more like
Master conspirator. Same name tho
Great idea for a video and a cool contribution to RUclips's archives of NBA footage. Love it.
+LamarMatic absolutely, young Dirk + nujabes music = epic, btw he had 100% vs. Poland today :P
Young Dirk had some speed to him. Alot of fans for some reason always say he was slow as shit but thats far from the truth. Dirk could move very well in his younger years. Great player👍👍
Crossovers by Nowitzki! :D He is just incredible and my favourite player for sure.
Anybody else here after Steve Nash on All The Smoke? I can see the Dirk/KD comparison. This dude was always smooth as butter, but then he had some handle and speed too? 😳 Well deserved HOF and champion.
Yup. Always said kd is just dirk with a little bit of tmac.
I forgot that Dirk used to drive to the basketball to smoothly. Legend
I was surprise Dirk can do crossover jumpshots run like a deer in the past.
KD took a lot of his game from Dirk
Me too
@@jacobclarke8436 kd just added sauce. Both are effective help defenders as well
Dirk was originally a faceup player. Me and my friends marveled at how he can dribble the ball full court. This was during the early 2000’s era. Big men rarely dribble the ball down the court. The most I have seen done it was Shaq in the 90’s. Tim Duncan Kevin Garnett, and Rasheed Wallace did it but the dribbling looked akward. When Dirk did it, it looked like a guard was handling the ball.
Straight up unguardable
2:05 Kobe was swimming
Did Dirk just stripped Kobe and beat him on a fast break at 2:03?
+Karlo Jose Tidon yup..back in the day...dirk actually led the mavericks in steals...and could run like a dear...people tend to forget that...
+Pacia Benjamin and people used to call dirk soft or weak when he's one of the best PF
RIP kobe lol
@@kaiser741 😟
@@kaiser741 damn..
Dirk created those durant, giannis and all those !
Damn. Dirk forever. I will never change my move. #stepback fadeaway for life
Came here after hearing Steven A Smith say Dirk was slower than Kendrick Perkins during their debate of how great Giannis is. People do forget easily
thank u for this video man. Dirk is my fav
Thanks for the vid ! it's GREAT and shows what Dirk was all about !
he was Kevin Durant before Kevin Durant
he is not kevin durant. he is dirk nowitzi
He's better. More clutch. Dirk would take over the last 5 minutes. KD is great but he doesn't even have to try with that team
Nigga please KD is better than Dirk, to hell with all this nostalgia shit.
@@goodman5836 chill. Dont ever disrepect dirk. Durant patterned his game after dirk for a reason. He may be slightly better but lets not act like we dont know how bad of a man dirk was. Ain't no such thing as nostalgia when we are referring to one of the top 25 greatest players to ever play this game.
@@TheIcemanthomas yeah you right bro. I'm just heated with all this KD hate
Dat last highlight tho. So young, so agile.
This video doesn't even show the most athletic Dirk! Go watch even older videos of Nowitzki and you'll have moooore athleticism. Great video though.
In 2011 dirk was already slow due to previous injury. Plus getting older. They were expected to lose in the 1st rd.
Just wow you know what I am deeply rethinking my all time PF list.
This is incredible
OMG! Look at the handles Dirk has on his early NBA years. I love Dirk, it's just too sad he's not that kind of player now :(
AMAZZZZZZZZZING DIRK WITH INCREDIBLE CAREER!
The samurai champloo song tho 😂👍🏽🙌🏽
beautiful!!!!
Dirk the Great.
he is my favorite player in the nba !
Damm I luv dirk one of his #1 fans but mane I never really knew how bad ass his foot work was back then to young to even want to see basketball great vid
thumbs up if u miss dirk+terry combo. That 2006 team was amazing, should've won the title, too bad the heat were set up to win that year.
Been a fan since the beginning, but honestly I'd forgotten how agile he was. Fun to see him running up and down the court again.
I have always loved the mavs vs spurs match up during the early 2000s. Great years of the NBA.
Never thought I would see dirk running the ball up
When u create my player in 2k with 7’0 height, 99 dribbling, 99 sprint, and 99 speed.
Big guy has heart and potential. I hope he wins a ring someday.
The man literally pioneered and revolutionize why big men are shooting 3's now, spacing the floor. also an almost 90% ft shooter.
He is the ideal big man of this era. They used to call him the unicorn.
That lob from curry at the all star game is legendary
Never through Dirk has this speed. Unbelievable
im 8 years late to these 15 year old highlights and i just saw dirk pull up hesi jimbo before kd was even at texas LOL
I knew this guy was a great when I first saw him in 2000 or 2001. A 7 footer doing the things he was doing was unheard of. I started following him and I just can’t praise him enough. I feel like he’s a good person too.
Oh he most definitely is! Dallas will forever be grateful have him represent the city
Incredible career and a gracious guy with class, impossible to not like
An All Time Great
Legend dirk man goat
Nowitzki started the evolution of basketball stretch four.
Him, sheed, Webber, and KG
Dirk can do fade away shot,
Dirk can dribble fast as he can,
Dirk can run fast like kangaroo,
Dirk can hits multiple three,
Dirk dribble ability is hell,
Defender: wtf
beast
0:19 that crossover would make the crowd go nuts if he does it today
btw he doesn´t get anough credit for the kind of shots he took. They were either heavily contested in some post ups, he was often double teamed and his one-legged-fade-away was difficult af. Otherwise he took shots out of the full speed dribble, turn around jumper and so on. What a legend
I forgot that Dirk used to dunk like that.
And these highlights were only from a few games. Dirk did stuff like this for YEARS day in and day out. He’s a revolutionary player and he doesn’t get enough credit for how he shaped the game. If he would’ve have more help in his prime he’d have at least two more rings.
This video is probably going to get a lot of views when dirk announces his retirement. As of October 2016 this vid had 75k views
And now that he has officially retired, this has 100K views, as of July 15, 2019. What a career that Dirk has had. He deserves respect for all the accomplishments he has done throughout his remarkable 20-year journey in the NBA.
music timing is perfrct with that shot man
grats on 30k points d1rk !
Best power forward ever in my opinion
when Dirk got older and slower he adjusted his game to be a post scorer. All time greats always change their game if needed
im surprised someone used dis beat its a classic
I been saying it Dirk was KD before KD but with a better post game
Love me some UPN 21
For me personally at PF : Dirk, then Duncan. everyone else after that.
I keep thinking that he's the post up guy but he ends up being the guard lol
ONE TRICK PONY my ass..kareem "only skyhook" abduljabbar
Holy shit..
Damn I didn't know he was this fast in his prime
Embiid the modern day Dirk
l almost forgot how fast he was.
New NBA fans who learn old players with 2K cards won't believe this video
the best part of dirk's game is his hack of the game. he has the cheat codes like on how to live in the freethrow line and how to out race your defender using just your 1st gear..
Best europlayer ever. And Im spanish.
this happened to my buddy bambs
splash brothers at the end haha celebrating with dirk
Kristaps really reminds me of the dude
2:03 RIP Kobe lol
that aged well
...I miss his knees
just based on this video, I think young Dirk is faster and more agile than Porzingis.
Looking at this, I feel like Porzingis has a really bright future. He has even better handles and athleticism than Dirk had...I'd like to see him get a bit stronger and then get into the gym with Dirk and learn from his post game early in his career. Not saying he gets to where Dirks career went, I also think Top 15 all time greats is reasonable, but Porzingis has all the upside...
For anyone that think Dirk wasn't a beast I got something for y'all "CONGRATULATIONS you played yourself"
What happened to Doc Rivers voice?
HE is just like PP XD!
fundamentals
What’s the beat
2:02 poor kobe hehehe
wheres your avatar from?
UPN21
young Dirk looks like stronger bulked up version of KP to me
disrepectful. They dontnplayblike each other at all. And Dirk was much more coordinated and a way better offensive player.
lol look at KP now.
Luka reminds me a lot of the young Dirk b/c he can do a lot of Dirk's game even 4" shorter.
1:59 lol looks like Tom Cruise
0:55 1:37 2:18
Moves like giannis
Before Durant we have Dirk
