On a side note, jumping is a very explosive movement, it's meant to put a strain on our legs, especially at the joints. Although Quarter Squat and Half Squat increase our Strength corresponding to 1-foot and 2-foot jumps, the principal behind this is making us generate more force from that angle, and this very mechanic is what cause muscular imbalance. Deep squat changed my game, my whole legs adapt to a spike in force so I can jump higher with less knee pain.
This is why John said the other day that training like a bodybuilder actually makes you jump higher. The original way an athlete train is to milk as much strength and power phase for their current amount of muscle, but slow and controlled deep squat close to failure would build a more stable foundation for Power Clean to shine (but of course, do Power Clean at the start of your session, not after deep squat, its effect is meant for the next session).

Hey Isaiah, I love your videos and just wanted to say I’ve had a similar background to you. I would dunk on adjustable hoops for hours a day from 5th grade on and would always try to push higher. My height has peaked at 5’6 1/2 with a 7 foot standing reach and have dunked 15+ times on a 10 foot rim. I would love to test my approach vertical one day. I’m almost sure it’s over 40 inches.

Looks like a training plan for running or biking, where you spend the first part building volume at low intensity, and then you add and increase intensity up till 2-3 weeks before your race event.

Interesting discussion. It is interesting how zay responds to the slower side of force velocity curve . I wonder how he would respond to overspeed but maybe that is just like plyos with two foot jumping which usually just improves his one foot . Sprinting is maybe the fastest but also less specific but still would be interesting to see like his flying 10m improve and how that impacts his jumps at all everything else held the same

To me if nothing else it's worth it to allow that exercise to become more simulative again. I just did squats for the first time in 3 weeks in which I was doing other lifts, and even took 3 days off over Christmas. There was basically no drop off in performance, and the stimulus I received is nuts. I know I will quickly be above where I was at the end of my cycle, where I was starting to stall.

Hack squat IS really hacking. I can deep squat up to 617 lbs but that' because I can rest at the bottom position and stand up easier since there's no tilting back and forth. It translate into 275 lbs on a standard barbell which is crazy.
I guess hack squat is the best tool when it comes to quads hypertrophy. Just like how the smith machine works, it takes away a lot of the stability involved in a lift so we can focus more on just firing our quads.
But by all means, do both, both are good!

ISAIAH try arm weights when jumping.

Thats what I am doing rn. I went from 225 to 315 on backsquat in 3 months and also had my first dunk at around 275 1rm.. I power clean 2x a week but my form sucks, so I am only practicing with 135.
I wonder how much vert gains I can squeeze out with mainly pushing these 2 lifts.

    • @OkOk-xf6xn
      @OkOk-xf6xn 3 дня назад

@ you can easily get to mid 30s after that results might taper and you have to introduce new stimuli

@@OkOk-xf6xnI think low 40s is possible. I want to push my squat till 405 and poweclean atleast 225. I dont really know what new stimuli I should add. I jump regularly as well.
I am 6ft, with around 6ft2 wingspan and am weighting 180 lbs

Indeed it's more the other way around! Squat strength is very overrated.
There are many 40+ jumpers without a decent squat.
And there are a huge amount of athletes with good squat numbers but not reaching close to 40.😮
It's not uncommon to see people having a 2x BW squat but only mid 20 vert!
Vertical jumping is not weightlifting! Not even close! Its the same problem with sprinting and jumping.
They are much more different than many people think they are.
