If you need any recommendations for another 24 hour readathon, the Sookie stackhouse novels are really fun. There are a lot of them but maybe you could read the first 5 or 6 books

i'm always obsessed with these videos - mostly because i know i could never do this myself. here's my obligatory recommendation: the stephanie plum series, which is super long but the books are short. it was my brainwave when i was watching your lianne collab, because her channel is where i found the stephanie books.

The Soulless series is great! I read it, rather than audiobooked it but I recommend. It’s a shorter series too!

I binged them in quarantine and lost steam right where you stopped. In 7 she goes to Hollywood and definitely isn't relatable and then 8 has a weird mystery plot line that I just didn't care about and screams "I ran out of ideas." However, I think if you read the Christmas one at Christmas time you could like it because it's still goofy, but it's definitely still rich people problems and she was doing things for superficial reasons when in my head I'm like "but Becky from book 1 would genuinely care about these issues???"
TLDR: my rec is skip 7 and 8 and then just read 9 at Christmas time
Completely agree!! 7 and 8 were so weird and felt like that didn’t fit in at all. I almost didn’t even read Christmas because I so disliked them.
I think that Emma and I would be best friends based on our mutual love for books, SuperStore and Air fryers.

Enjoyed your read through. However as someone who has read the books over and extended period of time and multiple times, I find Becky relatable throughout the various stages of her life and my life. One thing, that helps is that the feelings and behaviors of Becky's shopping addiction, while seemingly silly, really translates to other addictions as well. And if that's something that you've dealt with you can really relate (She even develops a small drinking problem in Shopaholic Ties the Knot).
Also she has a lot of other flaws and challenges that I find relatable. Imposter Syndrome at work, being self-absorbed and not paying enough attention to others at times and missing things, dating someone of a higher class and feeling like they're people look down on you, being overly affectionate or loving with people who don't reciprocate (Her relationship w/ her new sister Jess), losing a best friend due to growing apart and feeling lonely, insecurity about you career/life choices, feeling like an inadequate parent and struggling to find the right techniques (Mini Shopaholic), feeling like your social network of family and friends thinks lowly of you and your capabilities (Christmas Shopaholic), and so on and so forth
I cringed when I saw the title of the blog because I remember reading the first couple back when they came out and I hated the protagonist so much because she never had any positive character development and it drove me crazy. I feel vindicated by your reaction to the series!

This hit on so many levels. I loved the first few and I stopped when I got so annoyed (maybe around baby or the marriage one, I can't remember) such a shame.
I felt like Becky got more relatable again in Christmas - I read it this Christmas and enjoyed it more than I remember enjoying the others!

I think the Christmas one is actually really good. Her story by the end is much more sympathetic and actually there’s a super funny scene toward the end that I literally lol’d at. I haven’t read 7, 8 or 9

I read the first one right when the crash happened in 2008 and I found it pretty tone deaf at the time. Pretty glad that I didn't continue on with the series after watching this video! Thanks for your sacrifice!
if you ever feel like doing another readathon, I'd love a gossip girl readathon OR (and this may be a bit niche, idk if anyone else read these as a kid but) the Angels Unlimited books, if you've ever read them! xD but obviously, if you don't really enjoy these 24hr readathons then you do you! :D

@@Annie-se2qd yay, I knew I wasn't the only one! Haha. I recently bought the first three books to have a re read in my 30th year of being on this planet, and I'm actually really excited to see if they are still adorable.
Such a fun video! I read through Mini shopaholic and then also got super annoyed and didn’t continue, but then I picked up Christmas Shopaholic this past Christmas and actually really enjoyed it. She’s the same Becky, but there a few moments where she makes a real effort to connect or shows a smidge of awareness (not too crazy, but a bit) and Luke actually has a really sweet heroic moment. Maybe give yourself some time first, but I think the Christmas one might be worth a go.

I love these series vlogs so much! I read many of these books when I was in highschool. I honestly can't remember where I got up to in the series but it was quite entertained at the time. I have a couple of the books on my kindle but i don't think i'll go back to reading them again hahaha.
But these vlogs really encourage me to read series' back to back, and I really should do that - but then ~ life ~ gets in the way and I rarely do haha. But I did try and read the entire cruel prince series in a 24 hour readathon last year. I almost finished them in that time but I couldn't stay up the whole night so I didn't haha..

You actually should read it, most of the books are really hilarious, entertaining, and full of heart. In the case of the "cousin fucker" it's her best friend and in her defense they're like 3rd or 4th cousins or something and they aristocrats so it's not really too down on by their peers, more the common people. And they're 2 of the better characters in the series.
If it makes you feel better, it’s still called Confessions of a Shopaholic in the states. I just looked it up in the library. 😄

Wow, this takes me back! I remember in high school a friend of mine had an omnibus of the first three books together and I straight up devoured them. That must have been about 13 years ago - wow 😅 I've never felt the inclination to read the rest of the series though and after seeing you go through it I don't think I ever will 😂 I love these vlogs - they're so much fun and this one was no exception! Hope you had a good sleep afterwards 😄
I love this series so much. And I dont think I fully noticed how much they meant to me until you started criticing them and it felt like a stab in my heart, lol. I just think they are hilarious and allow you to escape the world for a little while.
Anyways, it seems impossible to read them in a day. These books are LONG. I cannot believe you even tried!

I love Sophie Kinsella! Her books are so easy to read and get me out of a bad mood. They make me laugh and I think her main characters are quite relatable and realistic. I didn't enjoy Shopaholic that much though... if you haven't read her other books yet then I recommend I've Got Your Number and Can You Keep A Secret.
They made me laugh so much that I had to get out of the subway a couple stations early because people kept looking at me 😅
What about a weekend readathon? Where you would read a long series and you would be able to sleep. Btw I loved this video

Hi Emma, I bought the entire series of A Series of Unfortunate events. I enjoy watching your 24 readathon. About the Confessions of the Shopaholic. I didn’t enjoy it as well that I never buy the rest of the series.
I love your 24 hour series readathon. I have never seen you read paranormal romance, but I would absolutely die if you read the Argeneau series by Lynsay Sands... They are super short fast reads & takes a whole different twist on "vampires" or Immortals as they like to be called... I mean they are so freaking cheesand corny but absolutely laugh out hilarious and entertaining. I dont know anyone on here really that has read, and would die to see your reactions to them.

I read all the way up to book three and ran out of steam for them really quickly with just how repetitive they get..... but I love the movie and Sophie kinsella in general! And omg I don’t remember the cousin bit at all!! How did that get okayed??
