Yes, I like using this technique. In fact, I was even considering putting down a base layer in a single distinctive light or dark color and then doing a coat of clear acrylic medium over the top of that to create a more durable base. I find that sometimes I end up scratching down to the gesso.
I do use this technique and play around with undertones as well. I’ve done black with neons underneath, or pastels with white over top or vice versa. I love to use a citrus zester or metal skewers to reveal the color underneath.
I love tips like these! I like watching you take a painting from start to finish. A hundred times I say “stop ✋ it looks great!” 😂 You keep going and going and it looks even more fabulous!
Nick, So grateful to you and your team for the art info, inspiration and advice. I especially enjoy your interviews with other artists. You are a great listner and know how to dig deeper into their process. I am currently a CVP 2024 student and loving the program! I watch a CVP alum, Gaynor Pattel on her You Tube channel. I would love to some day see an interview with the both of you. She is so full of enthusiasm and love for art......Just like you!😊 Thank you so much for all you share.
Excited to try this! Thank you. 🙏

That’s amazing. Thank you. Love it.
I sometimes start with my accent color with line, then add secondary color, then the main color on top.😮
yes and I think about a warm painting and using all cool underneath to start and visa versa!
Great point
I’ve started using a red or red/pink under painting recently…
I can’t see a link to the mini course?
Is this info the same, as or in addition to, what I’m learning on the current CVP
