I often go into our music room after dinner to spend a few minutes on my guitar. Tonight I played and sang (to myself as usual) A Song for The Mira, and decided to check John's version again for tempo. It's a beautiful song that I first heard sung by Anne Murray. But I have to say, that for my voice and guitar, I really enjoy John's version.
@@johnmcdermotttenor So here's a little of my Anne Murray history. In 1969 I had just arrived back in the States from duty in Viet Nam. I always wanted a Corvette, but as a military person had little money. I found a 1959 red and white Corvette at a used car lot for $850. Thet's right, 850. Worth $75K today if I had it. I had 30 days leave before my next duty assignment, and drove home from Seattle to Chicago. It had an after market eight track player. Remember those? I bought two cassettes. Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young - Déjà Vu, and Anne Murray Snow Bird. At the end of my 2,000+ mile trip I had memorized every song on both albums. Sorry I didn't know about you till some years later, but love your music. Having been born in Norway, there's a certain connection there between your music and that of my family.
You are sorely missed at Sunnybrook Veterans. I hope they revive the afternoon programmes. Sadly, my dad is not there anymore but he and all the veterans loved your performances every year. Thank you for that.
You have so many wonderful memories with your family and friends. That is a life well lived! Your songs, new and old, are part of our past. Any emotion we are feeling takes us to one of your incredible ballads. That makes you a master artist! Thank you!
Such lovely memories. Your PBS Show was wonderful and Song for the Mira was a great part of it. It's been a long time since last time I saw this video or heard the song. Makes me smile broadly. Thank you for posting it, John.
