    On Today's Episode:
When we talk about testosterone, it’s mostly associated with men, and when it’s too low it’s a big problem for libido and physique among other things. In reality it’s an important hormone for everyone, women included, but not many women are as concerned with TRT or testosterone replacement therapy like men are.
TRT and any kind of hormonal therapy is a big deal and should be approached with caution and lots of research. As a generally healthy male thinking about TRT, how much thought should you be giving to optimizing your testosterone levels over optimizing your physique for optimal health?
This episode is a deep dive into the kinds of things men will want to consider when thinking about testosterone, burning fat and building muscle. It goes without saying, your quality of sleep and diet play a major role in monitoring your testosterone.
While we all have an ideal body-type we think is the best, no one wants to have a stunning physique, inflated ego and testosterone so low your sex life becomes non-existent.
Derek of More Plates More Dates, shares his thoughts on what you should consider doing if you want to get jacked in 18 months being natty and how to differentiate being lazy from being defeated by unrealistic expectations of what’s achievable without drug enhancements.
Shawn Stevenson steps into the latter part of this episode to talk about your metabolic fingerprint and individualizing your health and diet goals in a practical way that actually works for you.
Derek of More Plates More Dates hit 1 Million subscribers in less than a year of starting his RUclips channel with total dedication to all things self-improvement in the health and wellness arena for men.
Shawn Stevenson is the best selling author of Eat Smarter and host of the Model Health Show where he’s talking with world-renowned experts on health, fitness, and nutrition. His personal story of overcoming severe health problems that had him chronically debilitated is remarkable and testament to how deep his knowledge and concern for real and practical health advice goes.

    QUOTES:
“There’s a lot of skewing of what people see as a good physique now.” -Derek
“Most people that don’t have the physique that is the peak of their genetic potential is out of lack of willpower and adherence to something consistently.” - Derek
“I prioritize other things over body composition for a while now, [..] it would be unreasonable for me to expect to maintain my lifts at what they were because I used to use reasonable amounts of steroids, whereas now I don’t use those.” -Derek
“Your metabolism next week is going to be significantly different, it's constantly changing and evolving.” -Shawn Stevenson
“People coming in may know, yeah I know I need to change what I’m eating, but they’re so far removed from understanding how powerful it is and what to do about it because of the cookie cutter stuff.” -Shawn Stevenson
“Many of these diet frameworks, even though they can be wonderful, they can also imprison you and they can leave things out, make things off limits that you may need…” -Shawn Stevenson
“Chronic nutrient deficiency leads to chronic overeating.” -Shawn Stevenson

Aka: that Harvard guy you're saying is BS has a lab where that info is actually discovered. And Derek would readily say that, too!

I think you both hit on good points about the "if its so simple why doesnt everyone have good physiques?" part. And yes i think you hit the nail on the head with the difference in opinion on "good" because if youre asking "why doesnt everyone work out and be in shape?" The answer indeed is that most people are lazy. But if you ask "why doesnt everyone have a good physique?" That is a COMPLETELY different question. Because Derek was correct, Hugh Jackman 2001 physique is not considered to be a "good" male physique. In the fitness space that would actually be a very poor physique by todays standards. I myself have basically a similar physique as he did, and i would not consider my physique to be worth anything. And for me, that physique took almost 4 years of consistent training, constantly sore, and micromanaging every morsel of food i ate. So Derek is also correct in that THAT much dedication to working out, to only get a physique that no one in the fitness space would even consider 'decent' is just simply not worth it. So a lot of people either do quit, or go on gear.

I fed the transcript of this video through GPT Chat, in sections, and asked for a summary of each section. I think Chat did a pretty good job though lots of details are missing. Posting the results below in 2 comments:

The speaker is questioning whether he felt awesome because he was lean and had a decent amount of muscle in his mid-30s or if it was due to higher testosterone levels.
He plans to do testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) and wonders whether he should optimize testosterone or physique to make him feel better.
Being too lean can lead to hypogonadism, so there is a balance between keeping hormones ideal while maintaining a good physique.
If someone wanted to feel awesome, free testosterone, gonadotropins, and fasting insulin are the top three things to look at.
TRT is determined by a hybrid of symptoms and biomarkers, but it's not just about having high testosterone levels, as receptor sensitivity and gene expression also play a role in muscle growth.
Testosterone needs vary between individuals with similar physiology
Some people can have low total testosterone levels and still feel fine while others may experience symptoms with higher levels
Lifestyle and dietary factors can affect testosterone production and signaling
Sleep quality, energy intake, macro and micronutrient intake, and food quality can all impact testosterone production
Optimal testosterone levels are individualized and depend on personal goals and priorities
Starting TRT may depend on factors such as symptoms, fertility concerns, and personal preferences
Full-blown steroids may be an option for those wanting to push their bodies beyond TRT but are not recommended.
Low vitamin D status is prevalent and many working environments and lifestyles are anti-conducive to getting enough vitamin D from outside. Therefore, supplementation may be necessary.
A good resistance training routine, focused on progressively overloading and gaining strength, is more important than cardio in spiking testosterone and building muscle.
Both heavy lifting and cardiovascular exercise are helpful, but making sure to get in heavy lifts for the week is the most important for muscle.
In general, standard 8 to 12 rep ranges are used, with weights that are not taken to complete failure on the first set but lead to failure on the last rep of the last set. Focusing on keeping a regimented log book and micro loading is important.
Prioritizing other things over body composition is okay, but trying to make progress in the gym is important to tell the body to grow to support the increasing demand on muscle.
The speaker discusses the minimum effective volume needed to maintain their physique, which is less than what is needed to build muscle.
They allocate their workout volume based on their weak points, and do not spend excessive time in the gym.
The speaker recommends starting a beginner off with a four-day per week workout schedule, and determining their maintenance calories.
The speaker advises allocating workout volume based on the beginner's weak points, and gradually increasing the volume over time.
The author recommends starting with a few basic exercises and adjusting the intensity as necessary.
Coaches may need to see videos of clients doing exercises to ensure they are working hard enough.
Starting a new exercise routine may result in significant soreness, especially for newbies.
Newbies require less volume than experienced gym-goers to achieve growth.
There is no magic number of sets per body part; it depends on the individual and their goals.
For newbies, a ballpark number of sets could be 60 per week, allocated across four workouts.
It may be necessary to split body parts across multiple days to avoid excessive fatigue.
Celebrity goal physique is often unattainable and unrealistic.
Hardcore steroids helped in becoming more aware of health and optimization.
Pushing your body is acceptable as long as you are aware of the pros and cons.
Education about taking hormones is crucial before jumping on them.
Cardiovascular system impacts like deformity of the heart and function of it are significant.
Negligence in regulating blood pressure can result in stage two hypertension and heart attacks, leading to death at a young age.
The speaker believes that it is disingenuous when someone sells a product or service based on their physique, without mentioning that they use steroids.
They think that if someone is marketing their physique, they have an obligation to mention if they are using steroids so that people have realistic expectations.
The speaker does not have a problem with someone being enhanced and having good information on diet but not talking about their drugs.
It is only a problem when someone is lying about the outcome being tied to something they are not being transparent about.
When it comes to sports, the speaker thinks it depends on the rules of the sport. In Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, for example, steroid use is rampant, but not banned. However, in regulated and tested sports, cheating is cheating.
The speaker would prefer a world where the use of performance-enhancing drugs is out in the open, so there is no double standard, and people can decide for themselves if they want to use them.
Androgens can increase oxygen carrying capacity, which is beneficial for athletes.
Beta blockers can help with anxiety, which is useful for public speakers and pianists.
While drugs worry the speaker from a longevity standpoint, they may be necessary for individuals with aggressive and unique genetic risk factors.
Rapamycin is a drug that is worth exploring, as it may have longevity benefits.
It is important to educate oneself about drugs and their effects, as well as to follow the data when making decisions about their use.
The speaker uses a cholesterol absorption inhibitor, Zetamine, to keep their APO bead down and prevent black buildup in the arteries.
The speaker is on testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), which causes spikes in cholesterol and lowers HDL, but the physiological reason for this is unclear.
Exogenous androgens inhibit lipid metabolism and have an influence on enzymatic processes.
Using supraphysiological amounts of hormones (more than the body can naturally produce) can lead to accelerated strength that exceeds the body's ability to handle it, resulting in torn muscles, cartilage, and tendons.
Androgens can have psychoactive effects on the body's ability to move things around, recruiting more motor units and aggressive twitching.
Testosterone is converted into estrogen by an enzyme called aromatase.
Estradiol is the main estrogen that facilitates estrogen functions.
Testosterone converts into DHT and estrogen, which facilitate brain health, cardiovascular health, vasodilation, mental wellness, mood regulation, and temperature regulation.
Having a lack of estrogen is counterproductive to health, performance, and well-being.
Estrogen is impactful for neurological health, cardiovascular health, sexual function, and mental wellness.
Crushing estrogen levels can result in a lack of sexual function and decreased interest in dating.
The body uses hormones in various contexts and can use them in different ways.
Mitochondria have hormone receptors on them, and they can generate and respond to hormones.

I think newbies should do more volume, but not to failure. Learn the exercise and do lots of stimulus. After time drop some stimulus but train harder. Higher intensity is going to wreck a newbie more and is more likely to cause injury. I would first look at posture, most times there is something that needs to be done to fix posture and weaknesses/tightness whilst learning other exercises lightweight before moving onto all out muscle building

I am in range (low end) on HDL & a little high with the LDL. I know if I cleaned my nutrition up I would have excellent cholesterol because my current numbers while on trt with poor nutrition are not bad. I will say as a final parameter would be my activity level (2 manual labor jobs) is extremely high and training four days a week in the gym

As someone with ADHD who uses Adderal, your body will build resistance too it and thus you need to take more over time to get the same effects. I take it once or twice per week when I really need to get things done and helps tremendously. Taking it every day doesn't give the same effect. Watch Andrew Huberman to understand why.

Rogan started TRT in his 30'ties. Yes, and see his body later, it faded a lot; Then he started or upped his gh use, and so compensated.... but the stats say that is not bettering much in a longevity perspective... so we gotta see how it works out for him in the long run....
At the same time, see those guys with low testlevels and still feel good or great, even with a lack of energy at times, they look younger than they are, sometimes a lot younger.Looks is often what indicates aging of the person in lifelength and longevity.

Testosterone is not just for males but can play and even more vital role in females. Im a medical provider but not feeling great so have been doing testosterone pellet therapy and it’s changed my life. I have more energy less brain fog improved capacity for exercise, loss of stubborn, belly, fat, and improved joint pain since doing the pellet therapy, this must be combined with optimizing your thyroid, vitamin D, and other factors, but definitely a huge fan again not just for men but women also. I tested all of my staff and even people in their 20s and 30s had low testosterone and they don’t feel well but if you do your regular “blood work” everything would probably show up fine. People need to do their own investigation, and dive deeper to feel their best.

how exactly does it play a "more vital role in females"? Im not saying it doesnt play an important role in females, but "more vital"? Woman always have to make everything about woman, in general. I find it very annoying. Almost as many men die from prostate cancer as women do from breast cancer yet breast cancer receives 5 times as much research funding. 5 times! More men die of cancer than women in general, too.. but ALL WE EVER HEAR ABOUT is breast cancer. Its shoved down our throats everyday. See what I mean? Everything needs to be made about woman and here, again, is yet another woman making it about them saying testosterone plays more of a vital role for woman than men. Disgusting. Ya, the very hormone that is responsible for literally turning us into men is MORE vital to woman LOL! The lack of awareness and nerve of you.

Tom you should look into the none stimulant variants of adderral. My family opted to not put me on medication when i was younger for the same reasons ,though it probably would have helped me with school tremendously . Kinda a double edge sword because i dominated in sports due to high energy aswell as all social categorys ,but couldnt focus on school work at all. Was always very street smart and intelligent overall, I just failed at school work and homework / tests unless it was a class i was very interested in like economics or weight-training. Now im 33 and just got on a none stimulant form or adderral for the 1st time and its been a massive game changer for my short term memory , ability to read and ability to focus on tasks. Im taking 80mg of Atomoxetine which is the max amount you can take per day. Im much sharper now and my brain no longer feels on fire like it has for the 32 years prior.

@@jesuslikesmetal If your considering getting on adderall id take into consideration if your already a higher energy person because if its just trouble focusing that your having , then a none stimulant form of medication could work well for you. As for my brain on fire , i say that because my whole life my minds always ran at a million miles a minute 24/7 making it hard for me to dial in my thoughts when attempting to focus. It runs at such a high octane all the time, that it feels like my brains just on fire . Its like my brain has jet fuel poured on it compared to other normal people with regular brain function, which is why im loud and talk very fast and have a very extrovert personality. Getting on meds slowed things way down and increased my short term memory and ability to process information and read much better while putting out my brain fire. Now i do plan to switch meds soon because what i take paired with my other medications is now making me super drowsey, thus i may be switching to a different variant. Its been a game changer for my life though IQ wise. Personality wise iv changed some which i dont like , however thats pretty normal when getting on new medications of this caliber. These medications effect everyone differently but it could help with your headaches and give you more mental sharpness and mental clarity overall while increasing your ability to focus .

The trouble with that explanation is people don't know the difference between pain associated with training vs that caused by poor form or an injury. @@PS-lv1mr of course.
Weekly dose, Testosterone Enanthate: 140 mg, split into 50 mg doses every 2.5 days.
      Positive effects:
Mood, physical well being, drive, motivation, positivity, libido, and much better actual sex
I am also now able to seduce my wife more, because I have a more youthful approach to romanticism and flirtation
      Negative effects:
I have to be more careful to get my sleep, it takes a bit more discipline, because of the increased energy
My wife is my age and going through menopause, she doesnt want to take hormone replacement, so now there is a big difference between us in sexual performance. She can’t keep up, and would likely prefer still having sex once a month, instead of 3 x a week. And I apreciate the 3x, but tbh I don’t see why it could not be 4x or 5x, while my wife is feeling bad about not being there fully for the 3x, and being sub-energetic abouy it.
I now understand menopause much better, and I understand why rich powerful men get younger wives as they grow older. It is a combination of simple biology and evolutionary traits, and the fact that they can.
The solution of course would be to have women on HRT for the rest of their lives as well.
Finally, another positive effect is my recuperation after gym, I can add 1-2 weekly trips to the gym, so from 1-2 to 2-4. And it is a bit more fun to go.
      Ask me anything.

@@SoMuchMass in my current regime I inject Test Enanthate day 1, 3, and 6, then I start over, so 8, 11. This averages 2.5 days, and with a dose of 50 mg, I hit 140 a week. I am experimenting in 4 week cycles where I get bloodwork done, and then change 1 thing per period. Larger, less frequent microdosing can modulate SBHG down and Estradiol up, which are desired outcomes for me: my SBHG was sky-high, and I had very low Estradiol. This regime has put me in high normal for Estradiol, and taken my SHBG from 77 to 55.
This period I am adding hcg.
Next period I will try out a Test regime where I pin 2 x pr week, keeping the same dose, to see what happens with Estradiol amd SHBG. I am willing to go 50% above Estradiol range, it is likely still quite short of Gyno-range. And I don’t worry about Gyno, if I will get it I will get operated.

Brad Schoenfeld has mentioned before that even with a minimum effective dose of around 5 sets per muscle group per week you can get some very nice gains. You could easily do that in 1-2 hours per week,
Keep in mind that some people have very good genetics for muscle growth and can grow a lot from a small amount of sets.

As the night falls, reflect on your day. Let the images flip, like a photo album in your mind. Think about what brought you the most satisfaction. Pause awhile on the images you find most beautiful. Linger a little longer on the moments that brought you joy before you close your eyes and fall asleep.
Tomorrow you'll wake up and tend to your habits, one step at a time. You'll add new images to the story of your life, and that thread of meaning will continue to emerge.
