I swear that Kingdra is the quintessential "wait, I thought your stats were higher" Pokemon. It's total is high, but the first time you see it's spread i swear that most people are shocked at the fact it doesn't reach 100 in a single stat
Honestly i had sort of the opposite reaction. I never dabbled much in competitive, but i was surprised when i heard a gen 2 randomizer speedrunner say that kingdra was top A tier. I was like "i didnt think its stats were that good" since to me the only thing it had was good typing/almost no weaknesses. For neutral hits it always seemed like a mid stat pokemon to me. Usually high speed and high offense is preferred for those runs (like Aerodactyl or Dodrio) but i guess bulk helps when you use X items.
@joeyyoung5173 Physical Kingdra has been very very niche compared to Special Kingdra especially post Gen 4. It's not that you are "guessing" when you see a Kingdra in front of you, you'll assume it's special as Physical Kingdra doesn't cross your mind. You might want to run it Physical to catch people off guard, but you'd end up with a much *much* worse Pokemon overall as Physical Kingdra has a worse coverage (by a lot actually as on the special side it can use Ice Beam and Hurricane) and raw power and you'd also be running a severely outclassed Physical rain sweeper (why not use Barraskweda, Kabutops, Basculegion etc ?) and if you're trying to do it with a Sniper Set then you're infinitely worse at abusing it since you don't have Draco Meteor to spam. You could drop it's attack to 55 and increase it's SpA and HP by 20 each and the mon would be a lot better with not a lot lost in the process
Dewgong is starting to have an interesting lower tier history, particularly in Gen 1 UU where it's the best defensive answer to Articuno. But in general Seadra's worse than you think it is, so being outclassed by Dewgong isn't super surprising.

Wow I just realized Kingdra basically has Gen 1 Seadra’s same stats except 20 more HP and 30 more Attack. I guess the type-transformations in Gen 2 weren’t supposed to be focused on stats but on the better typing, like in the case of Scizor that gets no stat increases (just redistribution).

The mention of Clefable rising to UU in gen 1 makes me think about Clefable's weird journey in competitive Pokemon. A generation by generation analysis of Clefable would be almost completely out of order, as its usage in earlier generations is inspired by its performance in gen 6. Strip away Clef's gen 6 and gen 5 buffs and you're still left with a solid Pokemon.

Seadra is one of mid stage evos that desperately needs some sort of buff(s) alongside its evo, but in slightly different ways (albeit in large part stemming from their rather shallow movepools). "Dropped it down the elevator shaft" thats a Dr. Drake Ramoray moment right there
Half of the problem with kingdra currently is that it doesnt really use physical sets anymore, hence the 30 stat increase to attack is a major waste, especially with major minmaxing, to mitigate this, maybe lowering attack by 30 and increasing SpA by 15, Spe by 10 and HP by 5 would help kingdta out a lot?
I agree with this change, it would still have the "balanced" stats that's trying to have but is just more update. Balanced stats all around 90 is not cutting anymore nowadays
@@CesarMT1661 sadly true, but the big special attaxk buff and adjustment to speed while having fine bulk and solid defensive typing will give it a solid niche over other more potent waters, bulkier waters or other massively offensive ones
I swear I have a primal fear of Kingdra since it was my first time playing Firered and instinctively thought Kingdra is a major threat in Elite Four.
I did give Kingdra a huge BST buff in an emerald edit I was working on and uh let's just say by the time my gym battle with Juan was over (who's overall team I made way better) I only had one mon left. Mind you not only I had Sceptile but the vast majority of my team either resisted one of it's stabs or both and I was still getting literally washed.
Bless you for giving Kingdra the well-deserved love GameFreak denies it.
15:20 I thought Modest Kingdra's SpA caps out at 317? That is 2 points lower in SpA than Timid Latias, sitting at 319.
Yes you’re correct
The tyranitar remake finna be crazy
Kingdra is one of the Pokémon I'd love to see get a stats buff so it can keep up; at least get out of untiered.
Kingdra honestly feels like a really underwhelming evolution stat wise from gen 1 to 2 seadra only effectively gained 20 attack and hp and dragon typing at a cost of 50 special defence thanks to the special change
I love it. The Queendra. Shiny Kingdra is amazing
And to think, Kingdra lasted as long as it did before becoming Untiered without a single base stat over 100. Such is the power of Swift Swim.
Also, Tyranitar remake when?
I had totally forgot that Seadra has Poison Point instead of Swift Swim, and Horsea has Swift Swim. LULZ
From one of the best to Untiered; riveting.
it's still funny to me that Kingdra has been banned from every tier below OU, and is in BL hell in 75% of the generations it's in
Will always think it’s crazy they didn’t do increase kingdra’s speed or sp atk with the evo. Like, you give it 10-15 in either stat and it might actually have a chance.
I bet this video will make silphspectre happy. Can we get gyarados and magnazone remakes please! Also a flygon remake featuring lord flygonhg?
Ones you don't expect to see
the only mon kingdra fears- empoleon
"Kingdra defeated OU" is terrifyingly accurate
The Horsea line is one of my favorites and it's kinda sad that I've never used one in a playthrough.
There've been several Water/Dragon types since Kingdra, but Kingdra hadn't been overshadowed until very recently.
The rain king
Kabutops and omastar eat your heart out
The evolution hs the same stats as Seadra, but with a little more HP.
Hoping they buff Kingdra next generation, perhaps by giving a few new moves like Roost, Flamethrower, and the like. Sadly, I think Kingdra's stats are simply too powercrept to keep up.
Would be really baller to see an updated video on gardevoir
I remember seadra being my second favorite only next to dragonite. Then it got an evolution and it became my favorite
I once used a GTS glitch in generation 4 to make my Seadra evolve into a Kingdra without actually trading it.
I still have that Kingdra
Such a captivating upload.
