@@TimeTravlah23 the gladiatorial fights were NOT to the death as gladiators where experience fighters and expensive commodities, even slaves didn’t die often while fighting. Whenever I see a strongman pass out during the Conan Wheel I always think of Raimonds Bergmanis back in 1996 when they were calling a slightly different implement the Cask Circle. Hit his chin on the way down and I'm pretty sure he was totally out for a minute. Brutal event. These guys are tough as nails.
In materials science and metallurgy, toughness is the ability of a material to absorb energy and plastically deform without fracturing. Toughness is the strength with which the material opposes rupture.
I remember when martins was just a kid and starting in najor strongman! The next year he walked in bigger, then the next he was a monster, now i see these young men so strong and powerful, many still working 9-5 jobs and training, once theu get some footing and support, the new champions will rise up, so exciting
Old answer but strongman competitions have kind have gotten less publicity and lower budget over the years, like of the more recent ones DIDN'T have Live broadcast on tv.
He started to late in life he only left the army and went pro a couple of years ago hes hardly weak with a 430kg deadlift but he there to make numbers up
To be fair, you could say that for just about every sport. Height is a big factor whether to an andvantage or hindrance. In this case you could say its a hindrance, but thete are no height classes like weight so whoever has the most appropriate genetics wins. Like every other sport
For those in the comment saying "this is strongman" sure lol. But can they put some basic safety in there if they know passing out is a very real probability? Doesn't make them weaker to protect their jaw/head.

Is there a specific location you must pick up bar? I see nothing marked. Closer to the basket may equal less leverage, but it is a smaller circle with less steps. Plus the angled support bar is there to lean into. Just wondering? 🤘😎
You're correct if their strength was enough to easily pick it up at any point. But it gets exponentially heavier the closer to center. If you are the Incredible hulk, sure grab it by the center and just quickly run around.
holy crap that is concrete. no way thats safe! is there a specific reason theres no mats? these dudes are here to push their bodies for spectacle, so Im surprised theres no mats with all the dudes passing out and falling over
I wondered if it would be better to wear a chin protector, because these Strongmen used all their strength at the last minute which made them tend to sag their entire body at the end. Then the height of their head is level with the metal bar as they sag, making their head often hit the metal bar, which in my opinion makes them vulnerable to injury.
Its a great event as its very dynamic in how then could take a shorter route by going closer to the rock but would have to lift a heavier working load or they can go right at the edge of the bar and have less working load but more distance needed

Such a good comment
Can we all respect a fella kept that weight on his wrists. Thats obscene strength
Was thinking the same thing. It mustve been 100 times more difficult to support so much weight with such little leverage. These men are truly amazing.

strongman events that go to failure seem like a supremely bad idea
So were gladiator events and look how long that lasted
Yeah, a lot of events like this are incredibly taxing on the athlete's heart/blood pressure.

0:49. Curran and some others know the physics. The farther away from the weights, the easier it gets. Holding the very end is the smart move.
