This channel has been my main motivation to keep coding. Always felt like I was never taken seriously when I said I want to make video games for a living. Seeing other people so passionate about a shared interest in a professional manner is refreshing. Especially when most media content out there for video games is just for fun. It's nice to see my dream isn't unattainable, or some kind of pipe dream, but a realistic, and rewarding field.

    • @theFirstAidKit

Same for me quite surprisingly. I'm early in my coding "career" and the route I chose might not be the optimal for game dev where my passion lies, because I want to get financial security first. This means that I do a lot of studying and coding non-game things and very low level stuff at the moment, which is sometimes not very interesting. My goal however is to pivot towards the gaming side of things slowly. I'm just now for example building a VM that runs code I myself compile with my own compiler and the VM basically runs a game of sorts with that code, so very low level stuff. My end goal is to work at a game company developing better AI to games, or something along those lines. I see huge potential there for innovation, but the road to there is often really demotivating. These Noclip docs are really helpful when ever I feel like not working. I hope you kept at it and are thriving.

In regards to the game length, I 100% agree. I have hundreds of hours in KOTOR 2, a long play-through is 30-35 hours. Played through it more than 10 times. Pillars of Eternity, that is a 60-70 hour game... I've only played it once. It was way too long, 50 hours and I would've been happy.

I feel like this game is the perfect blueprint for what could come later. People have been really hating on it, and yeah it does leave a lot to be desired when compared to say Fallout New Vegas, but that's to be expected with a new IP imo, it's a huge risk. They didn't have all the money in the world or the people and they didn't have the majority of everything already built for them and I think they did a great job with what they set out to do and I hope they can build on that, especially with how well the game performed and with Microsoft's support. I'm very excited to see what they create next.

That's their fault for expecting a sequel to Fallout NV but in space. It's surprising that tempering expectations is such a foreign concept to them and that any game should be a masterpiece. I also enjoyed that rock climbing analogy. Being one of those people that was overwhelmed by early RPGs younger person, I've always been drawn to games where the systems were not as complex. I for one simultaneously love the game and feel like it's lacking in some ways. Hearing them talk about the cuts they had to make explained it pretty well for me. If it weren't for clever writing, and how much you can interact with the characters in the game, I don't think I'd love it nearly as much as I do. Honestly, I can see why people don't like it. I was interacting with the characters to the extent of every dialogue option, and exploring every nook and cranny there was in the game, I was enjoying the hell out of it. They were right about players coming back for more, too. I played on normal the first round (I'm not super skilled), and twice again on story mode to kind of rush through to see the different ways of playing. Also, yes. The end felt rushed.. Hearing them discuss how they balance dark and silly was my favourite part of this, it's their signature mood in games, and meshes well with my own personality and what I prefer in entertainment.. I'm hoping DLCs come out soon because I have a serious need for more of this game!

I haven't played this yet... but I don't feel like rushing through it just to watch these soon... should I just watch these and rely on my shitty memory to forget most of it by the time I get around to playing it... who knows. Great work once again Danny and Jezza o/

I love when Danny talks about how good the “Arse” is in a game. He always has great things to say about the imagination of the “arse” director and how long they spend to make the “arses” look so good! (PS i’m irish too, I know what he is actually saying :)

In a time of "game as a service" crap and microtransactions BS, having the chance to get this kind game (singleplayer, storydriven, offline), created by an awesome team and this two legends on lead, its an absolute privilege for me, an oldschool pc gamer :) Thanks Obsidian, Tim and Leonard for making this happen, and also thanks for the video, looking forward to the next one

Yesssss! I just finishes this game, and it is SO well done! My only complaints are very few, and pretty minor. (Sublight final quest options, Felix quest, and not knowing whether to go in guns blazing, or sneaky in Tartarus) SO glad that these two got back together to make a game! It really shows in the gameplay. I absolutely loved the humor and gameplay in Fallout 1, and this game is a fantastic continuation of that. :) Thanks for making the documentary about it!

This was a fantastic documentary. Thanks for making it. PS: I'm on playthrough number 1 and just about to hit 100 hours and haven't beaten the game yet. I'm taking my time doing all the sidequests, getting really into the lore, and I haven't even touched the DLC yet besides downloading it. This game is critically underrated from people comparing it to related games. Taking it on it's own merits (and drawbacks) it's amidst my top open world games along with Skyrim and Breath of the Wild.

The one thing that I somewhat startled by was how short it was. I felt like I didn’t get my fill. It was also a little off putting that the awesome character designer didn’t have any impact within the actual game. In other words, it was always 1st person. Other than those points, I thought that the game was well done.

Considering all the cuts they made along the way, surely they can add some of it back in, especially the last one or two, as extra content with a DLC.
I am looking forward to playing this game some day, when it's made available on Steam. I would also have liked (and do prefer) a GOG option as well.

The Outer Worlds is a very solid foundation for a new franchise. The main quest does come off as rushed in the end whether it was lack of time or budget, both, or something else. Still, I still get the urge to clean up sidequests after the credits have rolled and I might try different builds/runs. The Outer Worlds is a charming game that keeps me coming back for more. I know Obsidian is busy on Avowed now, but I will patiently wait for TOW2.

I feel like this is the sort of game Cyberpunk should have been. It’s amazing what a smaller studio can achieve when thoughtfulness is poured into every aspect of the process. Cyberpunk posed in its marketing as this vast, multi-layered landscape that turned out to be a huge shallow let-down (amazing visual world building and graphics notwithstanding) whereas if they had narrowed the scope of it from the start like these guys did and added more depth to it it might have turned out to be a much more interesting game. It really shows how humility can pay big dividends if you pay attention to what you’re making. As usual all down to bad exec decision making rather than devs. For all the pre-launch PR hype about Cyberpunk being the big triple-A game, the OW is the one that ends up looking like a high quality, hand-crafted video game experience.
Brilliant video as always noclip 👍
