Plans for controversial juryless rape trials pilot continue

  • A raft of measures which would usher in major changes to Scotland’s justice system are one step closer to becoming law.
    As well as a pilot of juryless rape trials, the Victims, Witnesses, and Justice Reform Bill includes proposals to scrap Scotland’s unique “not proven” verdict.
    Among the most contenous of proposals is a pilot project which would see rape and attempted rape cases being held without a jury, with a judge deciding over cases.
    Scotladn Tonight was joined by Tony Lenehan KC, princible of the Faculty of Advocates and the chief executive of Rape Crisis Scotland, Sandy Brindley to discuss the plans.
