Another cracking episode! 06:27 who can forget Josh Stones monster aerial. I believe it was May 1997 with Robby Naish taking the win, Found that info on this channels website. The forecast is not looking good for Fiji but it's still early days. Fingers crossed!!! My dad had a Ford Cortina like that back in the day - his pride and joy. Carbon boom for sure. They last so much longer for me it's a no brainer. I'd rather buy a second hand carbon boom than a new aluminium. Great to see youngsters getting into windsurfing - we need more of that!
Not a boom horror story, but two days ago I hit a log that was just under the water with my brand new carbon fin. It was the first time out with the new fin. The fin looks fine, didn't even get a single scratch, but my board ate my mast and now has a huge hole on the upper side of the board and a long crack at the bottom. Now I need to wait for next month to get the stuff to repair it and I need to buy some of the Textreme fabric. Atleast everything else is fine
Carbon: it doesn't corrode so it lasts forever, and it's light (generally speaking) but when it breaks it's catastrophic. Al on the other hand might last as long as 5 seasons before it fails. In a prang it just bends unless it's corroded and it's about 1/3 of the price. If it's aluminium store it with the tail piece removed.
I'm still rocking a used alu boom, but had one snap at the head and extension on opposite sides last season a mile or so away from shore, had a buddy tow me back with my uphaul rope tied to his foot strap. Suffice to say I'm shopping around for a 100% carbon boom this season.
Carbon is best. Although I did hit the sand bar and broke both boom arms on impact. Catastrophic! There were witnesses but no video. No bodily injury either, thankfully I had unhooked preparing to rip a jibe.
Mark 1 Ford Cortina It was an old c reg! The turbos were a hollow early div2 board and the goolie board was a soft foam wave jump board but was absolutely rubbish only good for falling on.
For me the boom is the part of windsurfing gear that gets most wear (padding suffering when on land). With the investment of a carbon mast that supposedly lasts "forever" I assume you would want to get it repadded from time to time. I have never heard of anyone offering that service and wouldn't want to do it myself honestly.
Nice video as always.
I've missed your Defi wind 2023 coverage so much this year, loved what you did in the 2022 Defi wind.

Thanks for including Flo Ben... that has made our year haha! Tom and Flo
Lovely kiddo. Raising em up right! Good on ya.
It's a Ford Cortina surf wagon. Had another good laugh with this episode 🍻
Nice vid! Missed your Defi video's!
A big advantage with the carbon boom is the slim grip, which helps during those cold winter months
That guy on the foil at 1:38 is having fun....
damn man, those catapults looked ugly! loving the energy Ben
Definitely Carbon for Booms!!! Awesome Vid!!!
0:00 The “oh Putin” kill me 😂

I weigh 120kg and my Simmer carbon boom is now 3 years old and still going strong! Taken some big beatings in the waves too.

Yep, Ford Cortina.
Carbon booms have served me better than aluminum booms!
Ah Ah yes am ok after this big catapulte and this board and sail (and me) could partipate to the defi Wind.
FYI used carbon booms in the UK are from $200-400 if you are interested... New ones are double that.
The "safety rashy" does not include the safety transmitter. You're just paying extra for a pocket 😂. Plus the guy is posing ludicrously.
Carbon is the way to go when it comes to booms! try pumping a 9m foilsail with an alu boom
I tried… 2 broken booms as a result.
@@JD-wf9rc unlucky! i went with warbon after 1
I broke a NP 100% carbon boom catapulting of slaolm foil 🥴, so u have to be lucky hahah
Oh no we are going to get commentaries from Kai :/ , the guy is nice but he really sound like a parody of Michel Scott from "the office".
@97kg alu boom is not good... especially on 9.5 sails
Any decapitations from a foil yet?
