On August 8-9, 1989, Hong Kong singer Danny Chan held the "Love Lasts Forever Tenth Anniversary Concert" at the newly completed Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre in Darling Harbour, Australia (now demolished). Two days before the concert, Danny conducted an interview with television host Jeffrey James entirely in English. Jeffrey James also recalled some of his stories with Danny online: “I got to know Danny in Hong Kong during my first news anchor gig with HKTVB. We saw each other most weeks at a club called Disco Disco. We spoke by telephone late at night and he was a complex, temperamental and lonesome character. He was as talented as he was handsome. The interview may well be the ONLY he has ever done in English for television... The last time I saw him was in Sydney and we went out with others for champagne to Sydney's Boulevard Hotel which was grand in those days. He was not in good shape. I remember him explaining to the Australian waitress how he wanted her to pour his champagne. She did not know who he was, but she learned a little. Two nights later he performed a spectacular concert for 5000 Chinese. He promised to “sing me a song in English” at that concert and he did. The song‘s name? A secret…”
