Really good video. As I often say to people getting or trying to get into rhythm games, when they say "Oh I could never do that, I can't do that type of things", I always answer "We all start at the same point, nobody is born knowing to do this we all learned, the only thing some people are naturally better at it's the mindset"
Good to have only mental blocking you. Am in similar situation, but i feel like what really blocks me is inability to learn good tapping technoque / grip. Don't remember last time i felt comfortable with my aim and tapping. Happy for you and congrats on improving.
after enough time sticking to one technique for either, even if it is uncomfortable at first, i find it helps with the tablet player's dilemma of forgetting ones grip every other day. best thing I did for myself when i was experiencing these exact feelings was to try not think about it all since those problems only get worse when you're extra conscious about. hopefully you too can break through and achieve the extreme dopamine improving can bring 💪, cause thats when the vicious cycle of improvement + fun really kicks in.
For me grip is easy. I had a major issue with sweaty palms causing the pen to slip or needing to grip super tightly until my hand is fatigued so I tie the pen to my hand using a rubber band while in pen hold grip. For tapping I struggle to tap fast enough for 2-3star maps at first so I picked up alternating which is where I learn to forget which finger I'm tapping with. Another issue is finger control which I struggled cuz I mashed all the way for 700+hrs(still struggle to tap fast enough while alternating) so I committed 200hrs+ in like 1 year or so(quite slow) to just do 120bpm tapping-160bpm streams while controlling as much as possible while feeling super awkward. After all the training when I feel like my skills are saturated but cannot cross the next barrier, I play tournaments which forces me to be able to play those maps. Just recently I can't play the majority of stream maps at (1000)hrs now but after the tournament suddenly can stream at least 5-6star ones(1030hrs). Quite happy to finally be able to stream properly(still no FCS tho).
relatable. I feel like I could easily push and improve my aiming ability if I found a conformable mouse grip that I wouldn't lose at the middle of the map while still having my movements feel natural (the hard part for me usually is finding both in a grip). as for tapping I am just somewhat uncomfortable with single tapping with my middle finger, being my dominant finger that I just randomly switched to it in my first weeks of playing. I think I can single tap more comfortably with my index, but it has proved to be hard to relearn the muscle memory of starting various finger control patterns with my index.
Nice video. I've been in a similar situation, and the solution is to explore other mods. Although my main skill is aim, I often played speed maps that I wasn't proficient in. So I decided to focus on HR and playing longer maps. With this, I managed to get from 6kpp to 9kpp within a year, relying mainly on my aim.
Crazy cuz I'm basically in the same boat as you except I am still really gated on increasing my rank or overall pp. I peaked around 12k a little under 2 years ago and ive just decayed ever since because I was really skill walled with a lot of different things (I could only single tap jumps at the time and my streaming technique was awful and basically nonexistent). I think for me the interesting thing is I am so much better at a majority of skillsets now as I was back then however I haven't made any rank improvements just because the only really doable scores for me that I don't have already are low-mid 7* HDDT maps and since I only really play those for fun now it's just not something I do anymore. I'm able to play stream maps now and other more niche things and my mindset with the game really shifted from improvement for pp to improvement for the fun of it. I doubt I'll ever climb higher than 5 digit but if I do cool, it not idrc like I just want to enjoy the game.
being confident in yourself about whatever improvement you've accomplished always should mean way more than the pp number no doubt! either way, i believe in you to accomplish your goals, whether for improvement or rank, through the power of fun since you'll be bound to break your barriers as long as you keep grinding! good luck!
nice video, im 11k rank and im thinking about changing my tapping technique cuz i cant hit long dt streams. Like im getting c ranks on system sun and trio cup maps. It just pisses me off
How long did you play that hard/ high star rating maps, before going back to the 6*? like month? or u just did play it from time to time and also 6* maps between hard maps? How did it look like?
i think i approached it by feel mostly, so most sessions was 7* grind and fc grind back and forth, and if i feel tired doing one of those things in a session i just did the other. the mental aspect of just wanting to finish the map each time and do better than last time helped to not feel like certain maps were a waste of time to play unless fc too, which helped make the game fun even through so many chokes, (bouta have more A's then S's in my top 100 at this rate).

thanks for watching! its pretty unreal how much of an impact your mental can have on anything you do.

Same for me I don't get a good tapping comfortable and I tap really weird
