This was a great video. Thanks so much! I'll be sure to click the link to the one I'm going to buy once your full open review is done. I'm starting to lean back to the fold. Seeing them side by side and watching you voice to text was just excellent. No one takes the time to go the extra mile like you do. Hey maybe MS can contract one plus to make the duo3! A landscape version of the open with a less buggy duo software. I can dream... But that dream is never going to come true.
Just went back to my pixel fold today.Software and form factor made me switch back from my one plus can't believe it but I'm loving my pixel fold again .Glad I didn't sell it.Thanks great review software on pixel has more polished look .And has some cool features.
I love how wide my Pixel Fold is and I use call screen and now playing everyday so I'll keep my Pixel Fold but the OnePlus is a better phone in many ways. I would love to have the IR Blaster and the telephoto camera of the OnePlus. Thanks for the video!
I really love the Pixel software, features and polish but 100% prefer the hardware on the OnePlus Open. Wish I could have the OnePlus Open Hardware with the Pixel Fold software.
Form is so critical , feel in the hand is critical. the sound it makes when being slammed shut is also important. If you conceal carry than you know that exta inch is painful , which is why the sub compact always wins , and its the same with the phone , ordered both sent one packing .
I want to counter you on the hinge on the OnePlus. I dislike the snap open mechanic simply because when I'm trying to prop it up sometimes it catches on early and opens when I don't want it to. ESPECIALLY in those funky situations where I'm using it as a flashlight and need a specific angle past the halfway point. It is nice when you want to open it though. But I sent it back because of the software experience. Just didn't have that charm when using it. Those that are serious about software should make their own hardware and when you use Google and Apple devices you get a touch of that charm. OnePlus just didn't make me feel.....anything....other than being impressed with some of the hardware aspects. Oh and yeah my fingers hurt trying to hold it lmao .
That voice typing is incredibly perfect and the fact that it can delete or clear sentences is awesome (it's a must-have). The sensational tactility in the opening process is a must-have hardware feature what else can be more enjoyable. 😎💯💪🏾👍🏾. The 67 watts charging speed is a must-have battery feature for any phone. It do make a massive difference possessing a 67 watts charging speed on your phone (it's a premium feature).
man, I tried almost all foldables and after the Pixel, all of them seems too tall.. ok the Oneplus has the top technology and the Pixel some typical defects of 1st gen products but the format is so comfortable and wider than average (20:9 is terrible), favors immersion and preference. Flaws: heavy and conspicuous crease, at least they fixed the scalability of some apps. But photos are always superior to everyone else. for me, together with Mate XS, it is my favorite foldable!
I still prefer the fold for the size and software experience but i just can't stand the weight of the device. I sure hope weight reduction is a priority on the next gen of the pixel.
Google really needs to do a better job of promoting their AI technology on their pixel devices. This is the one reason why I continue to stay with the pixel devices. Despite my frustrations with Google, I can't leave the software.
Hey Shane do you use any accessories on your Open or Pixel Fold? Love the slimness of the Open without a case but feel like the camera glass will shatter if I drop it lol
Shane's reviews are just extremely good and helpful. The difference in voice typing between PF and OPO is roughly the difference between my P8P and my SD2 (both GBoard) and the Pixel is really much better. So the OnePlus Open is not for me, I learned that here. The Pixel Fold is not for me because I prefer the great camera from the P8P. However, the P8P's screen is too small for me. Who will build me a SurfaceDuo (3) with the technology of the P8P???
I still prefer my Open vs the Fold, and I do love my Fold but the weight and speakers are some of its weakest parts. I'll be sticking with my Open and the Fold will be put away...for now.
When I get my Open I’m going to follow the tip you shared some time ago on the Duo, I’m going to get one of those USBC wireless charging pads and fit a case over it. Haven’t you tried it yet?
I have used a wireless charger as a phone stand for years. With the OnePlus I accidently discovered that a near empty 4.5 x 4.5 daily calendar makes for a great phone stand for the OnePlus event when fully open
My Fold started acting up with the front screen not waking up from standby, and I had to open and close the inside screen for the front screen to be on. Do you guys have experience with this issue?
I have a question? I saw that the pixel fold has stylus handwriting in developer options. What’s that all about? Can a soft tip stylus be used for handwriting things like taking notes?
You could use a soft tipped universal stylus and the handwriting function in gboard if you wanted. Not the new one where you can write directly in a text field. Not sure about the durability long term though.
the thing i would miss about wireless charging, i leave it in the stand at work while streaming music, and have screen always on while charging. its just so useful i am not sure i can give it up now. but i can't even get the fold in Canada, and the open is so much cheaper in Canada. ugh. not that i have 2k+ to drop on a phone, lol
Most phones are big for me, so I just put on something similar to a popsocket on the back, it also work as a stand both closed and open. The camera is huge and I truly hope someone makes a Minion case for it, since it would be perfect! XD Right now I'm just waiting for any case to be available, the greeen isn't really me you know, I want something that can cover the outer screen when I'm using the inner screen and typing, so I get less fingerprints and also feels better.
When the Pixel Fold came out i recalled all the complaints people had about it. It has exceeded my expectations and i really like my Fold. The only thing i wish it had was stylus support. However if i could get the stylus for the open and could pay off my Fold, i might consider it
Any chance you could do a video on the macro camera on the OnePlus open? I know it’s one of the few folding devices that actually has a macro camera. I’m kind of curious how good it is. Awesome video as usual!
Which phone is brighter? Pixel or OnePlus. By that I'm asking about video, i.e. Netflix, RUclips and overall at full brightness since I don't think the OnePlus stays at 2800 nits.
No I'm really trying to decide these two thanks for this video. The struggle is real. I have the weekend to decide and I'm stressed lol. I do love them both 😢
The Only RUclipsr who was Smart enough to not leave out the Pixel Fold. Two new Folds come out well one the Z Fold 5 is still the Z Fold 4 with a slightly faster CPU in my Opinion. But two new Foldsbcome out and others forget how great the Pixel Fold is. It is Legitimately top grade Competition! I can vouch for it and i have set it up and made brief videos on my RUclips to show so.
Just an observation I've made, but most "reviewers" don't mention the Pixel Fold because they never truly thought it was better than the Fold 5 other than the form factor(i.e. the front screen). That's why most seem to completely ignore the Pixel when making comparisons now. The OnePlus seems to have more things going for it other than the front display for those people. That's why I take those guys' opinions with a grain of salt. Shane's opinion is more valuable imo because he actually takes the foldable market seriously.
GregglesTV released a video today saying that the Pixel Fold 2 screens will be huge! In the video he said that the outside screen will be 6.3" and the inside screen will be 8". He also side the form factor will be more like the One Plus Open and you would not have to rotate the phone to get the apps to display properly. I cannot deal with a phone of that size! I also like that the default view is landscape. I hope that this information is not true!
When comparing, i really stop at the usability of the front screen. The PFold wins right there. I’ve spent a week trying to work the oneplus into my budget. I stop at usability. That front screen does it for me
This is such a weird take to me. The OnePlus Open has a standard smartphone aspect ratio on its front screen. It's not unusable like the 23:9 TV remote ZFold phones. It's just a normal phone that folds out.
@AuraMaster_7 your words made me revisit the phones. When talking normal phones, I went back and re watched shanes video on device sizes. When talking ⁷folds and then adding a slab phones in, the realization is, I think of folding phones differently than slab phones. I can say tall and narrow are not for me ... But my slab phones is tall and wide. So what gives? My slab phone is an iPhone 15 Pro Max. I've had the pixels, the galaxies and notes. My dislike started when they went too narrow. So tall is not the issue.. Narrow is. When transporting to a foldable, I am seeing tall and too narrow is the culprit. With the OnePlus being wider would it be more acceptable? Good question. I guess what is really getting me...I really really don't care for Android. Probably translates into me really not caring for Google. If Apple did a tall and narrow foldable I'd probably be ok with it. Self reflection, go figure🤷
I guess I can understand, but its still kinda weird to me that people even think much about whether a phone wobbles or not on a table. Guess since I almost never sit any of my phones directly on a table to begin with... Lol
If it had wireless charging, the Oneplus Open would've been the obvious choice for me. I really wanted that wireless charging. i'm really done with wired charging. So after searching, i've found you can add wireless charging through a add-on. In theory it could work on the Oneplus open. It only has 10w charging but i'll take that.
Before I start the video. I bet I can already guess one thing you like about the pixel fold. the ability to exit the appropriate app withe the "correct" swipe during mulit tasking......lol
I'm not sure I ever framed it as correct and incorrect, I think I may have said something like I wasn't sure why anyone would prefer things the Samsung way. At any rate, until you have a third app in the mix, the OnePlus Open behaves the same way the pixel does.
The OnePlus Open is my first foldable phone so I can’t really compare it to the Pixel fold. But I have had a couple Pixel phones and I can agree that I miss some of the Pixel features. Like call screening and now playing. In fact now playing is something that I really wish was on every device because I’m always hearing music in stores and stuff and it’s awesome to be able to pull out a Pixel phone and see exactly what the name of the song is and who sings it. But at the end of the day my software preference is OneUI and neither the Pixel or the OnePlus can give me the experience that I really want. So I’m just going to be a two phone person carrying the latest Galaxy slab and the OnePlus Open, at least until Samsung gets the cover display on the Zfold correct.
A few things that had grated me with the Pixel Fold would be the somewhat dim screens, the hinge action, the side buttons lack any tactile detail and the heavy weight. Still, it's a great first generation foldable but I certainly hope gen 2 and 3 are significantly improved in these areas and others.
The pixel aren't sold in Denmark, it's a bit odd how they haven't targeted this audience... Apparently Germany have it officially launched as the only EU country..?

I've never used one before 🤷
I added Wireless charging to my oneplus open and I added a MagSafe to it also works perfect
If you don't mind me asking, what company did you go with to set up wireless charging. Also, does it make the open heat up by using Magsafe?
That wazzup how did you do it ?
