Thanks so much for this video. I own a Saab 99 GL super automatic in Alabaster yellow, post 1977 facelift and now need to replace the headlining. I don't have the confidence to do it myself and have a few business's in line for a quote. I now see what's entailed in having it done.
Perhaps the most important detail is the adhesive used. Many opt for the spray on glue, which is much easier, but I have always chosen a more permanent option: the heat-resistant spreadable glue. Good luck, I would be interested to hear how much the professionals charge?
I will d the opposite: glue on vibration absorber on the whole surface, then noise absorber, then fabric. All glued to each other. The fiberglass thingy crumbled on me and don't see myself patching it back together at all.
I received another comment; someone wanting to know how to repair the fibreglass, but I was unable to help. I did find this one more fragile than others that I have done in the past, perhaps it is an ageing of the material? The headliner is much easier to remove from 3 and 5 door cars, perhaps try to find one from a scrapper? I think that the shell is the same for all models, but I could be wrong... Good luck.
Great description for the process of an 99. This will help a lot 99 owners. Did you push the fabric to the glass faser mat strong or Yusuf gently? What fabric have you used for it? Looks great, thank you and greetings from Germany.
I used a gentle pressure to fix the fabric, the fibreglass is very fragile. The material I used was very similar to the original covering: a foam-backed fabric with a "scrim" layer over the foam. The UK supplier Woolies offers such a headlining fabric, but I would imagine you have a supplier in Germany; many of the parts we use to keep our old Saabs running are sourced in your country! If you would like more details I will try to find them for you. www.woolies-trim.co.uk
I have repaired several over the years, but none have had broken or missing pieces, however I did notice that this one was more fragile, perhaps the fibreglass becomes more brittle with age? I have no experience or expertise with molding fibreglass, and I agree that it would be useful to see a repair, perhaps next time?
Yes, it is a valuable safety valve! The headlining on the Saab wasn't too bad, but I have a Panhard 24CT where the lining fabric is glued direct to the roof!...

@@alancourtenay2475 Hi, will let you know how I go on. Getting on to the headlining issue this month. Thanks again.
Great job every Saab owner will be doing this one day
Indeed!
My car, a Saab 99 Combi coupe, was stolen from the parking lot. It had an interior ceiling upholstered by hand with a linen cloth.
Sorry to hear that, 99 combi coupes are very rare here in the UK.
@@alancourtenay2475 The car was never found.

Was it the brushed Nylon Cream?
@@GrauBuntStachelig I used the grey, same as the original.
Jammer dat je geen reparatie van de schaal zelf ziet bv als er een stuk vanaf is.

A bit of swearing is hard to avoid….
