I can understand why people say that Battler was stupid becouse nearly all of his deductions where wrong, but to be fair from his standpoint it was impossible to figure out the correct answer even if you had galaxy brain. During the Episode 4 Tea Party, Beatrice says the following (in reference to the end of Episode 3): "That's right....I should have struck a bargain there... I should have continued for eternity with Battler totally fooled.......But......that's just no good, is it....That....just wouldn't be true victory...." Basically, at the end of Episode 3 she deliberately reveals the deception because she realizes that getting Battler to like "the witch Beatrice" isn't what she really wants. This part (her deliberately revealing the deception and later explicitly saying that Battler believing she's a witch wouldn't be "true victory") is basically early evidence that Beatrice's true goal isn't actually to convince Battler she's a witch. But she still enjoyed her relationship with Battler during Episode 3 and was sad to give it up.
