For those who are looking , did the drain and fill method after getting the Honda Transmission cooler for my 2019 Honda Pilot 6AT FWD with 22750 miles. But it only drained 3.1 and the TC only takes 4oz. All videos I have seen so far used more than 3.3 which is what the service bulletin says to fill up but not on mine , which was 3.1 + 4oz for the T/Cooler. I checked the level several times and it is where it supposed to be. This is probably the best tutorial video that I have found so far. So I’ll be doing the level method like him on the transmission and check again the Fluid to make sure it is okay.
I used that procedure of 3x drain fill on a old Nissan maxima. it made something that barely moved to something that was drivable . thought it Lost 4th gear. (OD) it was good enoguht to move for 4 years and 41k miles along with 2 bottles Lucas . in the End I sold the car, the person who bought it had one just like it, but wrecked it. they were going to take trans out of theirs in put in mine that the just bought along with rear main seal.
Good video. The reason they have you turn off VSA as because they expect you're using a lift and can fun up to 50mph while on the lift. So it's not really a long process. If VSA were ON, the wheels would not spin while on the lift. 🙂
More than likely you have a nine speed transmission. Not the older six speed I have. Nine speed is more complicated procedure. Regardless, use whatever oil is listed in your owners manual for sure.
The rubber hose on top of the trany filter is much shorter and doesn't allow me to pull filter down thru front cross member to remove it. Any suggestions?
Might have to go from above but that may involve removing battery and tray. Maybe air pipe. Worse case leave filter there and ignore. It’s technically not an item that needs to be serviced but I do recommend if possible.
Where did you get the directions for how to check the transmission fluid level? I am looking for a Honda Service manual (mainly for all the official torque specs and some how-tos), but it is my understanding that they don't publish them anymore.
Just googling and using an on line manual I found. I show how to check in the video. It’s just the timing of doing so is hard with a hot engine. Very short period to check level.
The on board computer will request it when it’s ready. It’s not an exact mileage but an algorithm it’s following. Like the engine oil changes. but about 30k is in the ball park I think.
All the other videos are also wrong - thst is NOT how you refill the transmission fluid. There is a 17mm fill plug on top of the transmission, look at. Honda TSB 16-091!! Honda put a fill plug on top of the transmission for a reason.
I think I briefly mention this - but correct - I just couldn't readily see or find the fill plug. At least without starting to remove stuff from the engine compartment so I just gave up. Used the dipstick method. Which worked fine.

Yeah. It’s confusing. Manual says a little over 3 but I could get closer to four easily.
My 2019 Pilot FWD drained 3.5qts 🤔
Dude, great video, everything covered. I’m going to give it a try. 2018 Ridgeline.
gr8 vid there, there is a filler plug on top of trans marked ATF, on my 2019 it was blue in color, its right below the fuse box under a bunch of hoses
I never could find it. I’ll look again and see if it’s available easily next time. Thanks.

Thank you for posting this video, I was able to change the fluid and filter

That makes sense. Thanks.
Thank you for this video. I will be carrying out this procedure on my 2018 Pilot soon
Great detail on your video! Incredibly helpful!
I just popped one line and keep pouring fluid in as I see the color change I shut the motor off. Reattach the line and then check fluid level
I’ve done that before also with other cars. Seemed to work well. Not with RIDGELINE yet.
Lots of information. Thank you
The “Are you talking to someone” comment at 11:40 haha
I have a 2023 passport. mine says atf 3.a.
Is there a difference?
My understanding the transmission are the same.

Fucking great video
Recommend transm oil change never be called a ‘flush’. Honda transmissions could be damaged by ‘flushing’. Drain&fill only.
Good idea.

What's the interval to change trans fluid?

I did the drain and fill because got to install a Honda transmission cooler at 22500 miles and fluid was dark like in the video
