Defintely one of the best. I wonder if his Americ tour (when he had a beard), somewhere around 1969-1973 I think, is available, on LP or something......
@@kathleencollins5531 well by that era's standards he wasnt. he was short, chubby and bald. not really admirable traits, not now, even. but he was attractive, in unconventional way
My god, his voice, paired with the orchestra and the harp. I can hardly believe this is real, it’s so beautiful, the fact that the rest of my generation is missing out on this hurts deeply, no appreciation for real music today.
Who'll walk me down to church when I'm sixty years of age When the ragged dog they gave me has been ten years in the grave And seniorita play guitar, play it just for you My rosary has broken and my beads have all slipped through You've hung up your great coat and you've laid down your gun You know the war you fought in wasn't too much fun And the future you're giving me holds nothing for a gun I've no wish to be living sixty years on Yes I'll sit with you and talk let your eyes relive again I know my vintage prayers would be very much the same And Magdelena plays the organ, plays it just for you Your choral lamp that burns so low when you are passing through And the future you're giving me holds nothing for a gun I've no wish to be living sixty years on
BEST VERSION of “ Sixty Years On” I ever heard. 🤗 Elton John at his BEST!!!! Simply fantastic!!!!! Might I add Thank God for Bernie Taupin. Another genius in his own right....
So many emotions all his songs evoke! Truly-along with Mr. Bernie Taupin (where's his CBE?)-genius and soulfulness. His voice makes me cry it is so powerful, soulful, beautiful, extraordinary, lovely....I am so left speechless...all the greatest of the adjectives....I am crying.
I cry becouse this song is very Beauty and emotional warm and sad my goodnes . I Love these Guy like Them he is amazing just like freddie mercury My First idol
You know you're living in a different world when this musical masterpiece gets 68k views in 9 YEARS while a 3-chord Taylor Swift song will get millions of views in 24 HOURS.
@@jade7602 I just can't conceive of it. I was in preschool during this performance but Elton songs were in my life from the '70s onwards. There are at least six billion people on this planet. Elton is a major star. How can these songs have such few views?! 😳
I am 66 years old and loved Elton John's first 4 and 6th LPS, but Taylor Swift is a wonderful talent and is a poor choice for a modern artist as a comparison, also some of the greatest songs ever are 3 chord songs, more is not always and seldom best.
Once upon a time, a long time ago, in the ancient Hanseatic city of Memel, two souls met. The ancestors of both souls were tightly connected with this city: for one they were scientists and teachers, and for the other they were rulers. Their meeting took place in a very exotic atmosphere, during the times of the Soviet Union. Memel, renamed Klaipeda by the Bolsheviks, has lost its former charm, but still something has been preserved: buildings, beautiful sunsets, architecture of that elusive aroma of the 80s era, the energy of the socialist way of life, which cannot be expressed in words. But the strangest thing was that in the evenings in local restaurants they played Elton John, this particular composition. And after such a huge number of years, this music sounded today too. She did not let me forget those wonderful impulses of youth, that unforgettable time. Slandered today, called occupation, it was the best time, without a doubt, and not only for these two souls.
so wonderful to see these early recordings! remember, this predates DVR, or VCR or beta or any recording that common folks had, so if you missed it when it aired on TV, you had to imagine the artist playing or singing from how it sounded on vinyl. shoot, how did you get this, even??
Please remember that Bernie Taupin wrote the lyrics here, not Elton John. The tune and chords are relatively simple, Andalusian Cadence and line cliche. The lyrics about an aging soldier never get old. I am now in my late 60’s and get them more now than when I was 16 and first learned to play guitar.
I'm sorry for your loss Tammy. My best friend Dennis passed away very unexpectedly on Dec 4, 2019. He was 61 also. Had he lived he would have been 62 this Feb 2020. I'm heartbroken 💔😢 Healing thoughts & prayers to you! ♥️🙏
I just want to know why the world has forgotten this heart touching song. These type of songs are not being written anymore and are replaced with with some Bailey eyelash song like wtaf
I AGREE ☝️!!!!!! Today’s songs can’t touch the writing of Bernie Taupin and the beautiful musical scores by the ONE ☝️ and only Sir ELTON JOHN............
Yea him and his bud leegends for 6000 years on and on hope those people from other planets will hear some of the great sounds that come from this planet and say let’s keep this place alive their is something good down here peace out
My favorite Elton song when I was 19...and today I turn 60..and still my favorite. Love you Elton.

This song has such a timeless quality to it.
No AutoTune.
Just pure talent.
His voice is such an underrated instrument!! this is such a powerful song..
One of the best musicians of the 20th Century.
He is still one of the best in 21st century
@@JV-yo6qs His best music was in the 70s in my opinion.
Easily
Not one of the best.... the best
I am discovering Elton John of the 1970s, I must say it's the best era for him.
Wow. The voice. And he was so cute, too.
B D he really does have a great voice. And he was adorable in the 70's!
His problem is he never thought he was attractive, even back then.

Another brilliant song from Berni Taupin and Elton John. The golden days of their careers......
I'm 68 and this remains one of my all-time favorites!
Elton is the best singer/composer of our time. A legend
Saw Elton perform this at the Fillmore East in 1972. Incredible!

who's says theyre missing out?
One of the greatest songs ever written! Such great lyrics
The GREATEST singer songwriter in the history of music... period!
One of my favourite pieces from Elton John. Extremely well done and well orchestrated.
What a talent. He had the Midas touch from '70-75.
54 years on, and still mesmerizing
Bruh he was. SO cute, I have a huge crush on young Elton 😍
Me too😍😍
Me three 😍😍😍
Me four 😂❤
Me five lol

Love how he drops that timeless epic performance and then just forgets about it and gets ready for the next time
A real stroke of musical genius to incorporate harp and Orchestra to convey the feelings expressed by this song. A true masterpiece effort.
How can you rate favorite song. Yes this is one of the best, also Madman Across The Water
I couldn't pick ONE fave EJ. No way...
A masterpiece.
Refreshing to see him not at the piano. I've never seen that! Such a cutie!
Watch much?! EJ often @ piano. Almost always, in fact. It's like saying you're surprised to see Billy Joel @ a piano. 😂
He was a looker back in the early days.
And I survived the Childhood, 60's to 60 in seems 60seconds!
amen brother! ...And "I've no wish to be living sixty years on"
Who'll walk me down to church when I'm sixty years of age
When the ragged dog they gave me has been ten years in the grave
And seniorita play guitar, play it just for you
My rosary has broken and my beads have all slipped through
You've hung up your great coat and you've laid down your gun
You know the war you fought in wasn't too much fun
And the future you're giving me holds nothing for a gun
I've no wish to be living sixty years on
Yes I'll sit with you and talk let your eyes relive again
I know my vintage prayers would be very much the same
And Magdelena plays the organ, plays it just for you
Your choral lamp that burns so low when you are passing through
And the future you're giving me holds nothing for a gun
I've no wish to be living sixty years on
Reminds me of my father... Still play this on the piano nearly every day after more then forty years.
Laurylie Polito awesome job writing the lyrics down!
This song is so beautiful❤and the voice of Elton just wow! I think I am in love with him..
This was my birth year and this song resonates so much now
There is no one comparable. EJ is The Emperor 🤴🏼 of Rock & Pop!
And the incredible Paul Buckmaster has passed on now....he was amazing...

This was broadcast on my 14th birthday !
