Hi, I have a Ram 1500 DT Laramie. The rear axle load is rated at 1860kg. I have upgraded the suspension, 40% stronger on the rear and 20% on the front. I also put Airbag Man airbags inside the coils to use when towing the van, which we get in the next couple of weeks. We will also have a Desert Storm after a 20 month wait. Will let you know how it all goes when we hook it up.

Hey Spyda. The DT is that bit better heh. We put air bags in. The rear as well, but its still not quite enough. Look forward to your update. PS: Make sure you go over the new van with a fine tooth comb before delivery. 👊🏻

For all the bad things that people say about Canberra, there's a lot of good things to do here. If you are back here again, I'd recommend the Arboretum, especially the bonsai display and the cork forest walk, simply fantastic. I've been living here for the last 4 years and enjoyed it, but we have just sold our house and we are about to hit the road. Let the adventure begin!

We really loved the tidiness and history of the city. Was just super cold 🥶. We will definitely be back so thanks for the tips. See you on the road

Thankyou for sorting out weight issues. Very interested in results of water tank capacity and actual weight carried. Where are you getting your diesel heater fixed?

Hey mate. Still researching the whole water carrying scenario. V interesting. We hope to get the heater fixed in wagga wagga. Fingers crossed.

Speaking from mechanical engineering experience, weight distribution hitches takes the load from the rear car wheels and distributes the weight to the cars front wheels and the caravans wheels. The hitch also increased the down force on the tow ball. You need to understand free body diagrams and moments. Interesting what the weights are before and after hitch being activated.

Nicely done, can I ask a question could be stupid but if you’re finding out stuff. Do the bars release in an accident (van tip over) or does the Do 35 become like a ball hitch and take the Ute with it 🤷🏼‍♂️ Haven’t got a Ram but we changed our rear suspension 350kg constant springs , brother put airbags in his to lift his back up to level up and it does make a huge difference.
I remember watching my father doing up bars on the kingswood 😂
Probably want about 60 to 80cm snow for good skiing to be honest which is probably at least a good month away.
    Safe travels north 👨🏻‍🌾🤙🏻

Hey Stewie. Pretty sure the bars dont release. Thats a great question. I just cant see how they could knowing how they attach to to the van. Definitely something to consider. We have air bags as well, however they dont shift the weight back into the front axle. Granted not as much weight would be shifted rear once the van goes onto the car. We are going to head into the Victorian riverina. Looking forward to it. Stay in touch.

WDH hookup is a minor inconvenience (jack the rear up with jockey to release tension). US trucks are built and designed for their use as its almost mandated in the US for towing over 50% of a vehicles weight. GVM upgrades, then finding insurance, paying the increase, dealing with warranty issues as any extra load is extra stress on every drivetrain component. I'll personally continue to avoid gvm upgrades. BTW I have a ram and use an E2 hitch.

Well that’s about what I figured, I commented on an earlier vid without noticing the date, that the 2500 would be the way to go without having to think too much about weight, it seems hopeless to have a large Ute body that you can’t use. I’ve never used a distribution hitch because I’ve been a bit anal about being setup so I don’t have to. The major reason being articulation.
Anyway, you seem to have a handle on the situation. From what I’ve heard, you either get a 60kg upgrade or you replace the diff to get more.
Ten grand seems a bit steep, I’d be getting a second opinion.

Water is add to your weight if you had an accident, because how do you prove they were not full at the time of the accident
