Easily my new favorite 2D fight in the series. The animation was on point, the soundtrack was a banger, and I just love the matchup in general. Also a contender for most brutal finisher. Kinda hard to top dragging your opponent’s face around the world with super speed and ripping their flesh off. I had high expectations for this fight and they were well and truly met.
As obvious as it was, even if you don't buy universal Reverse-Flash he still outspeeds and outhaxes, I still enjoyed this episode very much. The animation did not fail to impress in terms of action, but its writing is what truly makes it special to me. We've had plenty of villains in DEATH BATTLE before, but I can't recall too many where the villain actually does horrific things to other people besides their opponent. Doomsday and Carnage are the only one that comes to mind. The carnage really captures how awful these two really are. Eobard using a random civilian as a meat shield is both hilarious and horrifying at the same time. The moment where they try to kill the past selves of each other was fantastic, Reverse-Flash being responsible for Quicksilver's death was hilarious while also improving a boring death from a previous episode, and the ending was nasty. Really shows how terrifying a speedster actually is if they don't care about who they hurt and how badly. The hand-drawn stuff is good, but it kinda looks goofy at points to me. Like Reverse Flash's running with the arms moving slowly up and down is inconsistent with how the sprite moved and doesn't look right for a guy who's supposed to be running really fast. I'm disappointed that the destruction was kept to a city and only implying something greater with the sun at the end. You got one guy who casually destroys universes and another who casually punches with the mass of a star but busting buildings and streets is the most you have them do? The moon launch was cool I guess. The pre-analysis was good, but I hated the jokes in Goku Black's section. Reverse Flash's were a bit better. The post-analysis was sufficient, I feel a casual can understand their logic. Them also explaining the difference in character between Goku and Zamasu was a nice touch I never thought of, even if it was unnecessary. I'd give it an 8 or a 9 out of 10. As for next time, OH YEAH!!! Super excited and have no idea what to expect.
I thought it was hilarious seeing the two try to kill each other via time paradoxes. Speaking of which, it was pretty obvious whose “being a living paradox” thing was superior. Black is only one as long as he has the Time Ring while Thawne’s is far more permanent and has no such flaw.
I must say: even some of the very one-sided fights can make for entertaining episodes. This episode is a perfect example of that as Goku Black was horribly outclassed and had no chance of winning and yet, Goku Black vs. Reverse Flash is actually now my favorite episode of the season. Everything from the fight itself to the references and comedic moments were all fantastic.
Eh agree but both are easily multiversal and not universes given both universes are actually infinite in size the goku/beerus clash was affected and threaten the destruction of the other dimension in universe 7, and of thawne scales to Barry and Wally harm multiversal characters and to the outerversal lvl with flash destroying anti monitor physical body
