I'm still convincing myself that voice overs are a good format, part of me wonders if I just make silent videos with minimal talking. Let me know what you think ⬇
I think there’s a happy medium. I don’t think you need to explain every operation (if you’re drinking a hole, I can tell you’re drilling a hole without the voiceover, at least most of the time 😂). But for things that might not be intuitive, obvious, or for tips and tricks or explaining why you decided to do it this way rather than that way, it’s nice.
I really like the choice of threading options given by the removable key. Great feature! For me I'd say keep the voice over. I like hearing the reasons behind the design choices. If folks want a silent film they can always mute the sound or have another music video running in the background.
Hey wait, are you and Matty sharing content creation ideas. That's the second tailstock die holder video in one morning. I enjoyed watching the slotting head at work. Mine is still waiting for its big debut.
Ha ha nope, just a fluke. I also released the same project, same day as Blondihacks a couple of years ago Slotting head is useful, but yeah a fair bit of setting up and aligning which I didn't really show
Bad threads from dies held against the nose of my tailstock spindle is how I learned that said tailstock is in bad shape geometrically. Nice job here though. EDM is an option for the keyway too, if you know someone with the machine.
Yeah I tried that approach too, but I've never had lot of luck Yep, EDM is a fairly niche tool, but would work too. It would be nice to have one sometimes ha ha
Sheesh, Bravo! Clean simple to the point and fine craftsmanship! You got my sub. I really like the removable key for the small dies. I think when i make one the only change ill do is keep the grub screws flush or below flush bc i have shit luck lol
Going to be making one again ,like being an apprentice again, but wearing gloves and machining would have been kicked out of the toolroom, bloody dangerous 😢
Nice work on the die holder Tom. Once you start using it you will wonder why you did not make one years ago. The die holder was my first RUclips video. Looking back at it makes me cringe...
Really nice thread guide I do like the removable dog. So well done. Voice over to me is way to go with shop sounds thank God you don't play the stupid music like some guys think they need to have! Keeping it simple to the point and direct is the best way why waste people's time with garbage. Nice video well done Columbus Michigan
You could have just kept the 6mm deep slot in the tail stock piece, then drilled/tapped a hole in the die holder to use a bolt as your key. I like the idea of having it free spinning as well for the small threads. I also say keep the voice overs, I like to hear the thought process behind it along with the occasional smartass remark. Very well done, and I like the "groovy" look on the die holder.
Thanks, yeah you are right, I could have done that approach to remedy the key, and that would also allow the threaded pin to be unscrewed and retracted for the free spinning mode
Yeah It could be much simpler than this, I chose to make it this way. Realistically 90% is lathe work and you could get away with a single slot and a guide pin I just designed it this way because I wanted an excuse to try the slotter lol
Tomato potato 😁 You should hear me trying to do my voiceover, it takes me a long time to get a coherent sentence, a single wrong word I can live with lol

Works well for other creators. I think you should stick with it!
Voice over works very well. Just continue like this.
Keep the voice over
keep the voice overs, the commentary is brill

Thanks, yeah I'll keep doing it

@gsdtdeaux7 you are correct. Grub screws would be better. I just use socket head screws for the larger Allen key size
Nice to see you back, Tom.
And I see you did find a way to quickly fill your scrap bin :)
I'm good at that! 😂
Thanks for watching!
I find my scrap bin is ultimately a great resource for other projects.
If you use three veneer grooves, the quality will be better
having watched RUclips without sound for years before the autocue came along I can say silent videos actually suck.
Ha ha fair call. I'll keep talking
Made one years ago, only hand held type. I sure like the keyway, thinking about making a new one.
Thanks
Always happy to inspire
Going to be making one again ,like being an apprentice again, but wearing gloves and machining would have been kicked out of the toolroom, bloody dangerous 😢
Nice work on the die holder Tom. Once you start using it you will wonder why you did not make one years ago.
The die holder was my first RUclips video. Looking back at it makes me cringe...
I made one years ago with my first lathe, it worked, but it was pretty crappy
It will be nice to have one again
Thanks for watching
love it. It reminds me of the old videos. Just the right length, and right to the point .
Thanks! It's how I like to make them too
Otherwise I get bored watching my own video while editing ha ha
Nicely done. I'll borrow your design when I get around to making one. Your voiceover style is good.
Cool, thanks for feedback

Yeah I'm pretty sure voice-over is best approach, thanks for feedback!

Great build, like the external grip slots 👌.
Drunk thread is the term, when its on the squiffy.
Thanks for sharing 👍
Drunk thread, love it 😂
Thanks for watching!
Very nice! The amount of machinery requires to make this little thing is 🤯

Hope all going well Tom, miss seeing your regular uploads. Cheers
Still here, I have a video in progress as we speak. Hopefully in a month or so
@TomMakeHere great to hear mate, look forward to seeing it.
Yes IV a lote of them
Good work. We shared this video on our homemade tools forum this week 😎
Thanks!
Una verdadera obra de arte, un abrazote genioooo.
Great video and build/project 😊👍👍
Thanks for watching! 😁
Intresting to watch.
Thanks for watching!
Hey there Tom. We missed you. Glat you're back
Still here, trying to find time for more videos
Nice work
Thanks for watching!
Very nice and informative video, thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Change tack, not tact.
Tomato potato 😁
You should hear me trying to do my voiceover, it takes me a long time to get a coherent sentence, a single wrong word I can live with lol
good job Tom
Thanks!
Love it, single size die holder😅
😂
Hall
Hall?
Nice work! Voiceover was great too
Thanks for watching and feedback!
Nicely done :)
Thanks!
Great build!!
Thank you!
Neat project!
Thanks!
